It was a long time ago, and I'm over it enough to be able to write about it now. I mostly posted it to show the kids here that life can really suck sometimes, but no matter how badly it sucks it can be gotten through. It's only the teen years after all, once you get out on your own and have some control over your own life, things get better. I didn't feel all that strong at the time, I felt nervous, hungry, scared, depressed, unloved, confused and abandoned. I got through it with tons of emotional scars and a few scratches on my wrist. The scratches healed within days. The emotional scars are all but healed now. It just took a little time. Some of these kids cut themselves because they're depressed, they think their parents don't understand them, won't let them run all over the neighborhood all night, won't let them get their faces pierced, etc... I thought they could use a bit of comparison. Are they living in a warn, safe, clean house? Do their parents care enough about them to tell them what to do? Are they well fed, with clean clothes? It should be easy for these kids to accept that they are still children living with their parents' rules and know that they have only a few years left before they can move out and do whatever they want. Time enough to get that piercing then. I do know there are some who actually are living in hell-houses who have good reason to be depressed, and to those kids, I say hang in there. You've only got a few years left and then you will be in control of your own life. You can live through it.
