Well, you can do that, but more often then not it has nothing to do with integrity and everything to do with distribution. If you want to market your music to a wide audience than you need to print a lot of cd's. Unfortunately, in America, if you need to print a lot of CD's you are going to have to deal with the RIAA at some point. I mean, 90% of the music industry!?!? And how they have not yet been taken to court for violating monoply laws is beyond me.
However, case in point on the integrity thing, I love Ani deFranco's music, but right now buying her cd's supports the RIAA because she uses an RIAA affiliate to distrubte. The RIAA isn't paying her bills, but it is shipping her CD's. I would say that Ani has rather high integrity, but is caught in an unfortunate catch-22.
