Thanks for the info :) I knew this was the right place to ask those questions. I've decided the best outcome for all involved would be for the bats to just move out when it gets cold. They're not bothering me at all (now that they've moved to a post that's not right outside my window). I hardly know they're there. They're certainly not going to attack me - if they didn't beat me up for spraying cold water in their room, they prolly won't at all). I'm going to have to get up there and hose out the droppings anyway, so a few more months won't hurt.
I would like to know though if they are actually going to leave. I got the website of someone to take care of them off the batcon.com site - but I'd rather just leave them and let them move out on their own. Since it seems I've gotten the attention of some people who know more about them, maybe someone can tell me? As for species, I really couldn't tell you. They seem to be black or dark brown, with translucent brown wings. They look nothing like halloween bats or batman bats - more like flying squirrels. they're about the size of a sparrow (but a much bigger body and smaller wings). I really didn't get that close a look at them - just enuf to know they were bats. The only way I could really get a closer look would be to spray them out of their room again, which probably isn't nice or necessary. I'm on a pretty rural island outside of Seattle, so I'm not sure what kind of bats we have here. Any help identifying them would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Devin-
