I think there have been some studies recently that have concluded babytalk is generally harmful to developing youngsters... I think. I'm pretty sure I'm not making that up. :/

Yeah, her favorite phrase for a while was "aw crap" whenever she dropped something on the floor. It was hard to tell her not to say it when I was sitting there laughing my ass off.

I've always been a big fan of speaking to children and babies with actual words and sentences rather than baby talk. I've always felt it makes more sense to do that. Of course, there is a subconscious tendency to use a softer tone or a higher pitch when speaking with the very young, but I choose to speak to them with actual words. Personally, I've always thought that helps a great deal with their comprehension. Besides, if someone speaks to a baby and asks a question or compliments the baby on their looks, and then the parent answers, then the baby gained the benefit of hearing an appropriate actual response instead of just a long series of cooing. Good job, Merry and glad you decided to go that way.
