This is an actual dream I had once...

The princess peered through the bars of her cell, straining her eyes to see in the gloom of the dungeon. The vastness of the subterranean cavern stretched before her, and she could only barely see the layers of cells on the opposite wall. All was quiet.
The dungeon she lived in was v-shaped, buried deep beneath the castle of the evil queen who had conquered the land and was spreading oppression and fear in her wake. The cells were stacked in layers, with narrow catwalks connecting them, and in the point of the v stood an ancient and unused forge.

The princess had been talking with the unseen prisoner in the cell beside her. He was young, like her, about 15, but with a strength of mind beyond his years. He was the grandson of a blacksmith of great power and reputation who had led resistance against the queen, and had been killed in return.

Suddenly, commotion broke out in the dungeon. A swarm of soldiers, dressed in red and carrying torches marched in disorderly array to the boy's cell. The leader took keys from his belt and unlocked the door, roughly dragging the youth from his chamber. They clapped leg irons on him and forced him up to the forge.

Apparently, this boy possessed a power even greater than his grandfather. The queen wanted a magic sword, an invincible sword, forged on this ancient forge, and he was the only one with the ability to do this. The fire was lit and the materials and tools prepared. The dungeon glowed orange red where before it had been cloaked in blackness. Flames leaped and danced in whirling masses as a soldier worked the bellows. Sparks flew furiously to the corners of the dungeons, landing on dank walls and going out with a hiss.

Tirelessly, the youth pounded at the sword, brow furrowed in concentration. The princess watched breathlessly from her cell, mesmerized by the process. Time passed like a river in flood, and still she could not tear her eyes away. The noise of hammers ringing on steel drowned the usual sounds of dripping and the moaning and muttering of the prisoners.

Finally, the sword was finished. The boy dipped it in water to cool it. The Captain stepped forward to take it, but quicker than a striking falcon the boy raised it high above his head and shouted. "I am Mar-Sali! The sword is mine!" Instantly the dungeon changed from red to blue, as the sharp light leaping from the magic sword drowned out the firelight. The soldiers fell back in fear and pain from the intensity of the light. With a quick motion, Mar-Sali slashed at the chains binding his ankles and they parted like a hair.

The soldiers seemed to be stunned, lying about the dungeon like flies on a winter windowsill. Mar-Sali went to each cell in turn and released the prisoners, finishing with the princess. And together, they led the emaciated band into the summer sunlight.

Throughout the dream, I saw scenes of the princess and Mar-Sali in their effort to defeat the queen and liberate the land. In the end, centuries later, it seems, they had become immortals. The queen had just been killed and her works destroyed. Mar-Sali and the princess were walking through the fields, talking with some farmers. The princess was a tall and slender woman with long, straight black hair and grey eyes. She was dressed in grey, and had a sword at her side. Mar-Sali was also tall, and thin like a sword. His hair was iron-grey and shoulder length, and his face was lined and his blue eyes intense with many battles. But he had a twist to his mouth that indicated a more gentle side. He was dressed in black, with tall boots and his magic sword at his side.

This was the last I remember of the dream. I had this dream 5 years ago, and I still remember it as vividly as the day I woke from it.
