Why be Goth?

Why would someone want to be goth? Because most states have laws against having an ice cream cone in your back pocket on Sundays. (Don't believe me?)
If that's not a good enough explaination, I'll try again. Since I've never even met 2 Goth people with the same definition of Goth, all I can answer is why I am. Growing up in Hawaii, I was surrounded by beautiful things my whole life. There were beautiful trees and plants, beautiful tan women everywhere, beautiful weather. No matter how perfect something is, there is such a thing as too much. I found it very unbalanced. Most of the people I knew were very happy upbeat people, and although that may not seem like a bad thing, they were still unbalanced. I knew a girl there who was one of the most fun, upbeat people you'd ever meet, but when someone would yell at her about anything, she'd lose it and curl up in a ball and cry for hours. I decided it was healthier to be balanced.

Goth to me is the opposite of the feeling you get when you go someplace with a lot of natural beauty. Whether it's waterfalls, rain forests, or huge grassy fields. Goth would be stone buildings, castles or cathedrals and cemetaries. Most people who don't even consider themselves goth, still enjoy going to medevil castles, so long as you don't tell them that what they're enjoying is the 'Goth' of it all. Other people are just willing to accept that goth is not a bad thing, despite all the kids who listen to Marylin Manson and insist loudly that they're a Goth and you're not.
