Fuck Facebook Date Thursday, April 25, 2024 - 12:21 AM PST Topic Internet I have to ask you a question. Which is the real you? Is the real you the person who posts twitter like messages throughout the day updating your status with things about folding laundry? Or is the real you the person who posted late into the night, taking great care with the words you chose to put up on the screen? I know that I have family on my Facebook friends list, which means I have to watch what I say on there. It sucks, but I get that Facebook isn’t for the real me. It’s for the me people expect to see. The real me is allowed to frolic and play on Shmeng, and it always has been able to. When I first found Shmeng my first article ended up in the slush pile. But, I think without getting slushed, without finding Shmeng, I would be a very different person. I really think Shmeng saved me from the life I could have had. From the life people I went to high school with have. It opened up my mind to a new world, the real world, with a lot more possibilities. Shmeng is real. Facebook is not. Facebook is girly games, Bejeweled, and what peoples babies are getting up to and into. Facebook is for spying on your old school mates, and having them spy on you. Facebook is, in many cases, putting on your Sunday best and showing off. Facebook is shallow. I want depth, I want reality. I want Shmeng back. I’d rather spend every five minutes checking in on Shmeng, like I used to do, instead of checking in on people I don’t give a rats ass about on Facebook. I give a rats ass about all of you. I sense a yearning for the resurgence of energy on Shmeng. I sense a need for real people to talk to. Maybe Shmeng does its best during recessions or something, but I don't care. Even if it's just for a little while, I want to see a family reunion here. I know some people will never return, and some people are lost to the sea, but those that still are and those that can be Shmengers, Shmenglings, Shmengies, Shmengsters again I want to see you posting. Not just in the chat box. Not just on the forums. But articles. I think we all need a good rant.
