New Hazards of Computer Games

My monitor blew up. It made a sound like TV white noise or waves crashing. Then the smoke started pouring out of the top. Lots of smoke. More smoke that you would really think. Like it was smoking 3 cigars at once. Then the smell of burn circuits hit me and I realized it was on fire.
See I was playing some old computer game and it wanted me to switch discs. It was playing space noises mixed with ambient sounds while telling me “insert disc one”. The walk through said the screen would go blank for the start of the next section. When my screen went blank, I thought it was just the game.

Instead it was the accumulation of dust and tar that has been holding this monitor together. And last night, it caught fire. It wasn’t even a hot night, well not hot for here at least.

Now, this isn’t a big deal ™. There is an office parts store a few blocks from my house (if they are an office warehouse, why do they sell so many games?). But they close at 10:00. My monitor blew up at 10:03. Of course.

See I don’t have a car, so I have things that weigh more than 10 pounds delivered. IF I could have ordered a new one yesterday, say before 10:00 PM when they closed, I could have a new monitor delivered by those cute, sweaty boys this afternoon.

But nooooo, MY monitor has to wait til the store is closed to blow up and sizzle, so now I have to wait ‘til Wednesday AT THE SOONEST, to get a new one.

Until then, I have to borrow Shade’s monitor, and because I am also lazy and don’t like picking up heavy things and reattaching wiring all day, I also am using his computer, with all different bookmarks, none of my files, and nothing where I expect it to be. Just because my monitor blew up.

I blame the game…
