I find it hard to believe that one could draw connections between the name
the Pope has chosen for himself and any other historical pope. Everybody
know popes are either called Benedict or Pius these days. The fact that he
is Benedict XVI might give an indication of just how popular the name is.
If I were to postulate as to which pope he may have named himself after, I
would say pope St. Benedict II; an important and revered figure within the
catholic church, facing many of the same cricese in which the current pope
finds himself.

Ooh, is that a promise Betty? I love arguing about pius XII, because Im one
of the only people in the world who didn't accept the two anti-pius books i
mentioned as gospel.

You go right ahead bub. Reading about the pope puts me to snoooooze, but
we'll fight about something else later on. I promise, pinky swear.
Besides, the first two (german, hitler youth) were't pro or con, just
statements about such that most people take and run with. I could care
less, not being a catholic and not caring what they do.

You talk an awful lot about things you don't care about.

Like what? I made one statement about how the pope is a snooze, one
incorrect statement that I accepted as incorrect when brought to my
attention about his name, and two factual here or there statements about
his past. The kid put forth a question why nobody was interested, I
brought up the three things that people could possibly argue about, and
then the fact that if they mattered or interested anybody, it would have
been brought up already. Any other problems you wish to address? I'm
listening.

You know, come to think of it, I don't think anyone's said that in a while,
feral. I second that vote.

and if you think a pope really matters nowadays you have problems you need
to think outside of what the media feeds you
Listen up douchebag, those who don't care don't, and those who do care do,
and if they DO care about the pope it's either political or religious, and
if it's religious then they have the right to care about the state of their
church, who's leading it, and the direction it's taking. The pope DOES
matter to catholics, he's their sovereign fucking leader, man next door to
god. Why wouldn't it matter to them?
And what, pray tell, is your definition of "evil", for this I am DYING to
hear. And which variation of T shirt slogan does this encompass?

In regard to the pope not really mattering today I have to disagree. There
are 968,000,000 Catholics in the world, and to them this guy is more then
just a sovereign leader- He’s infallible. Jesus promised Peter that what
ever he held true on earth, he would hold true in heaven (Kevin Smith
learned it the same place I did, years of catholic school). Guess what… the
ex-goose stepper is the direct succesor of the Apostle Peter. To the
faithful he can do no wrong. Screw his political power, which we have yet
to see how much of that he carries, anybody out there that nearly a billion
people look to as an infallible leader is someone I take seriously. Granted
I don’t have to deal with the pope personally, but I lived and worked in
the New Orleans French Quarter, hell I start my Vampire tour outside the
oldest operating catholic cathedral in the United States. The pope dictates
how much of a pain in my ass his fan club is going to be.

Stumpgod - aaaaahahahahaha. The pope doesnt look like the nicest guy? you
fucking dipshit weed of imbecility, did you sign up to this site just to
say that? To give us some pathetic half-baked reinterpretation of some of
the things that have gone before, which you would have known if you had
READ THE FUCKING THREAD. You are never going to read this but I refuse to
bottle this vitriol up, you scum.
Look outside what the media feeds me? The media feeds me 'the pope is
irrelevant' day in day out. How often is he in the newspaper? When he dies
is how often. Maybe and official visit will be recorded in some local news.
That to me SCREAMS irrelevance. Now go shove your head in a blender until
you can think straight, moron. He means something to some people, to others
he is a point of interest. I think you need to look outside what the media
feeds you, because, remember kids, the internet is a medium also, and I
suspect that that is where you came up with your pathetic excuse for an
argument against the church. Hell, Ive never been more inclined to become a
catholic, just to spite fuckwads like you who say that the church is evil
point blank without even stopping to consider the question in hand. A
christian beleif in God gives help to many millions of people every day who
would othrwise wallow in the despair of their situation. People in Ethiopia
wear a smile because they know that their life is worthwhile and that is
due, at least in part, to the Catholic church. Hundreds of thousands of
Jewish people were saved during the second world war by catholic bishops
and priests hiding them and vouching for their christianity, despite the
threat to their own lives. Catholicism has its faults, sure. There is
corruption within the church, of course, as there is in any organisation.
But do not snap tothe decision that the church is evil just becaus a
christian once told you off for swearing and then you read that Geroge W.
Bush is bad and also a christian. You get me?

Hate ye not the ignorant,
Theirs is our plight as well.
Educate them if you can,
Sanction them if you must,
And if they attempt to procreate…
Execute the judiciously.

Bettie, I'd like to buy you a beer. I know this great beer place, that has
hundreds from around the world. The only catch is that it is in
Bakersfield.
Girl, I'm far from a beer snob. I lived off Ranier Beer by the 36pack all
summer last year because it was 11 bucks a case at Sam's Club! Not that
I'd ever turn my nose at the GOOD stuff *wink* Oh yes, and there must be
karaoke.
