This forum is ta see what stuff we think would be cool for the site.
Granted, these are JUST suggestions. I like the site a damn lot...otherwise
Iwouldn't keep coming back, and this isn't a bitching forum or a whining
forum.
This is for serious suggestions, stupidity shouldn't apply here.
Look at it as a prayer to the divinities ya?
Me, I think small titles would be cool...the divinities have big stuff, and
it should stay that way, so there's a definate caste system, but I think it
would be sweet if every so often somebody got touched a bit a recognized
for who they were by the higher powers...for good or ill...hell, it could
even be something as simple a somethin' they could put in their signature
box. Nothing big, but a little identity can go a long way.
Though I totally understand how damn busy the folks upstairs have to be,
it'd still be sweet.
anyone else got some serious un-stupid ideas?

I think that another good idea would be a corner similar to the Fiction
Workshop except that it involves articles in general. A person moderates
it, implements submitted work, and then exposes it to people, allowing them
to critique the article on the subjective standards of the site AS well as
grammar. I don't see myself as a professional at grammar, but I am sure
that there are some well-educated individuals that can help. Just food for
thought for I know that Editors have to deal with undesired articles ALL
the time and it would relieve the load on their back if people in doubt can
send it to other individuals and get some criticism...if not send it in and
have it posted in the forum.
The only risks with this is that it may invite heat concerning
controversial views (happens here anyway) to the point where some people's
opinions may cloud their judgment. Otherwise, I don't think it'd be -too-
bad of an idea. I'd not mind helping, but I still am working on my own bad
grammar, lol.
Maybe it isn't the best idea, but it came to my head when Dolo posted in
this forum.
Anya: I already offered to do that writer's corner... ahve not recieved
anything...

i think it would be neat if we sent a letter to every new person that
signed up asking them what they think, why they joined, and what it will
take for them to talk. and if we purged the member list more often.

I dunno, Dolo... I think its good that we mortals don't have titles... The
deities get more respect that way...
Callei: That's a cool idea. It'd certainly set off the flamer-radar*
sooner...

Thats a pretty nifty idea Callei...figures. heh heh.
And Ironboots, I ain't saying anything big, something similiar to the
Member, Fanatic, Extreme Fanatic thing would be cool...new stuff is always
fun, and Shmeng could use an ass-injection of fresh just like everything
else in the world.
I mean, for example, if you got nailed a minor title, your forum additions
could read
Ironboots
Fanatic Forum King
etc...
For some reason the fiction workshops seem a little like communism,
excellent in theory but strangely unworkable in reality. Mebbe it's just
the very slightly greater effort involved in them...or something, I dunno.
Personally, if my articles go up, I prefer to see them on the main
page...it's just neat like that. But regardless, they were at least decent
ideas to begin with.

I have disagree with yoo on the title thing, Dolo. Even though I was never
a fan of the whole karma thing I did like the idea that nobody knows what
their status is unless their in the Pantheon. Although I never really
cared what my status is because people either deal with mee or tell mee to
get the fuck out and so far, the latter has not occured.
I do think it might be cool if perhaps instead of "Fanatic" or whatever, it
says the person's title (for the Pantheon of course).
I do have to agree with yoo on the fiction workshop thing. I don't like
working on my pieces (not that I contribute much in that area of the site,
but still). It's an impulsive thing for mee. If I have to think about it
afterwards I'll hate it and won't want to post it.
Purging the system of the superfluous Shmenglings is definatly a good idea.

Yoo know, now that I think about it, how about something like the Greek
system of ostracizm? If a certain number of Shmengligs call for a vote in
which all members can write one name, and the turn-out of the vote is more
than a certain number, then whoever's name gets the most votes is
ostracized.
We could call it the Themistoclause.
Naturally Devin gets full veto power. Also there should probably be some
system to prevent people from signing up with multiple accounts and voting
mupltile times. We can figure something out....

Perhaps there could be a way to link a user's picture from the gallery to
his/her profile? It wouldn't have to necessarily be a picture of them, it
could be a piece of their artwork, etc. The downside is I'm not sure if
there is a way to do this through scripting? The plus side would be that I
wouldn't have to comb through the gallery to see how cute people are.

we decided not to link the galleries with the forums here for lots of
reasons. mostly because the coding would suck, people would want to keep
swapping thier pics, and it would make it harder for the new people, the
ones that still have to prove that they are the one in the picture, to get
thier pics on. oodles of code and confusion.
karmascores are about the same as the vote to ostracize, only the people
doing the voting are all people we can trust not to throw drama into the
mix. and people do get banned when they do something particularly bad or
wrong. and they do also get grounded. we dont just use shunning.
we did change the titles in the forums once and people spazzed and begged
for them to go back to this system. it was wild. we didnt know anyone even
cared. I think the forum king might remember that, if you want to ask
Ironboots about it sometime.
the editors do run a writing workshop. each article is read by the editors
(as much as they can stand at least) and notes, hints, help, and pointers
are sent back to the writer with offers (depending on my mood) for further
help. Anya you arent still getting massive feedback on everything you send
in because i know you have it already.

*nods* I'm aware of where I stand. I was just speaking for the ones that
have more trouble with their articles. I just know the stress you Editors
go through with certain articles and maybe it'd help relieve some of that
stress. However, Feral clarified that it's already been an implemented
idea so I step back and apologise for not realizing it.

personally i would like to see an easier system for search the article
database. if there could be a subject word that one could search for it
would be better than going through every article in the past however many
years because one cannot remember the date, the title, or the author...

I also really liked it when no matter what yoo were doing on the site the
shoutbox, eyecandy, who's online list, etc. was always there. It was alot
more convenient than having to go to one paticular area of the site to get
to another.
I'll admit it was getting a bit cluttered when the random book box and the
like started showing up but isn't that why there are those little
"minimize" buttons on each of the boxes?
Anyway I don't know Jack for shit about coding but I'm assuming an endevour
like that would be UBER pain in the ass. However, this site seems to be
reborn every so often and I would throw this into the suggestion bin for
the next time the site gets a makeover.

GM - see the little "Search" link in the second row of links at the top of
each page? There's also a box next to the "Archives" link that you can type
word in and press the little search icon next to it.

In hindsight I'm gonna' have to retract the majority of my initial
suggestion, it does sem to be trouble-bait in the long run. Other than that
though...I'm dry, when I think of something cool that makes sense I'll post
it, until then I'm just gonna have fun clicking shit...wheee!

Maybe it has something to do with her horrible L337 or her grammar and
punctuation issues.

I'm going to back up MRD on this one. People aren't going to respond to a
topic that is more of a "look at me and how cool I think I am" than
something of genuine interest that would spark a real conversation.
Especially when you have to decipher the spelling and grammar. Christ, I
could have let my baby girl tapdance on the key board agin and had
something with more redeeming value than "where i work!"
