I, Schizo, Mother Confessor, Patron Saint of Religious Discussions, Bearer
of the Holy Kindergoth, and Knight of the Order of the Creepy Crawlie
Spider, do solemnly decree, if it so please our Holy Devin, that
member-in-disgrace Shmooth has made what amounts to a full confession of
his true, though misguided, intentions, which triggered the whole Attention
Whoring fiasco. I ask that Meranda_Jade, Mistress of Discipline, Patron
Saint of Free Love, Bearer of the Holy Sledgewhip, and Playground Referee,
devise a punishment suitable for his crime of inadvertant shmenginess of
the first degree. After which, he shall endure a penance of undetermined
length, until he has convinced the populous (oops, I almost typed
poopulous!) of his innocent intentions. If at the end of this penance he
has proved himself worthy, he may then join in the joys prepared for him by
Callei, Mistress of Orgies, Patron Saint of Lime Jello and Spontanious
Orgasms, Holy Bearer of Chocolate, and High Seeress of Other People's Sexy
Bits.
I also hereby declare that said member-in-disgrace Shmooth is my personal
pet for training, provided he can prove himself to be able to do his
business on the newspapers provided for that purpose and not on the
imported turkish carpet, in which case he will be returned to the Animal
Shelter forthwith.
All Hail the Most Sexy God Devin!

schiz i would caution against this one as a pet. there are other people
waiting in line for pet status if you just want a pet. while i agree that
this one seriously wants the attention, i dont agree that you have the time
to give it. and i know you dont want your mailbox flooded with notes saying
that your pet has shit on the carpet again and you have to clean it up. The
list of infractions already on thier poor fools head is long, and it shows
no tendancies to not commit further dumbassednesses.
Pets are part of our job, that is part of what makes us the demi-gods. but
really, i dont want to babysit your pet when i have enough trouble with my
own.
and a charge of (near) plagerism is hanging over this one. do you really
want to go thru all that again? and look how that one turned out!
i will of course do my duty if you declare it pet, I will smack it when it
needs smacking and tell you my reasons so you can explain those reasons to
it. I will praise it when it needs praising and tell you my reasons. I will
hold it to those standards to which pets are held. I know we all will. I
just ask you to consider your choice.

Pets?!?!?!? *sinister grin* May I inquire as to what the rules are on
taking pets and being taken on as a pet?

Zero: a pet is someone of favored status... a prject, a protected
child...
Schizo: I too disagree with Shmooth gaining pet status... but for different
reasons... he must master basic communications techniques that do not earn
him the ire of most before he can do that... for taking someone that is
already considered a menace ond protecting him sets a bad precedent... sink
or swim...

Well, maybe not a pet then. I didn't realize there was a waiting list.
I know there are probably others who deserve it more, but for some reason
this one caught my attention, and I don't know, I really feel an urge to
give him a bit of a boost. I really think his original error mushroomed,
and the whole thing got out of hand and turned into something he never
intended and regrets.
And I've generally found my gut instinct with people turns out pretty
accurate. For example, I picked out the three men at work with serious
sexual harassment records on the very first day, before I heard the
stories, and before any of them had even spoken a word in my presence, just
on the sheer sensing of their disgustingness. And I've also had luck the
other way, too.
I didn't know about the plagerism. Was that in the deleted article, or did
I just miss it?
I do want to give him a hand. If pet status isn't appropriate, then
something else, perhaps.
And I'm used to cleaning up stinky messes. I'm a mom. That's my job.
Maybe I'll just do and say what I feel I should with him, and skip any
official statuses (stati? What is the plural of status?) And no one who
doesn't want to deal with any shmeng from Shmooth doesn't have to for my
sake. Let's just say he's a stray I put a bowl of food out for once in a
while, but if he ends up a menace to society, the pound can net him at any
time.

Thanks, Feral. I really value your opinion and Callei's. I know I have a
tendency (OK, I know, more than just a tendency) to throw myself into
someone's rescue from themselves, and get in over my head. Just because it
worked out once doesn't mean that the next time won't be a huge disaster.
Not that I should deny my urges, just temper them with a little wisdom and
discretion.
And the fact that you are willing to give him a chance, Feral, also
reassures me that I'm not out in left field somewhere. There IS good in
the boy. I think he is still figuring out how to express himself properly,
even still finding out who that self is. I happen to be pretty good at
taking time to work that sort of shit through with people.
It took me such a long, hard time to figure myself out back 10 years ago.
I was a pretty irritating person at times, too. I know I've come a long
way at self-discovery since first posting on Shmeng, but I really don't
think anyone here realizes how far I came even before then. I was a wreck.
And I had to make a lot of the journey myself, because no one really
cared, and those who did care, didn't have the time to take to help me. So
I've got a HUGE soft spot for these kids (or anyone) who has loads of
potential but have managed to screw things up for themselves. It's amazing
how much just one person believing in you can do for you.
I think his biggest problem was not realizing that when you say something
in person, there are subtle facial expressions, body language, and tones of
voice that express the personality of the speaker that are just not there
when you type something. If someone doesn't know you already, it is VERY
easy to misunderstand something you've written.
And then once he was misunderstood, somehow he just managed to make
everything worse for himself through his replies, probably still not
realizing that he was not expressing the things as he would in person, and
it excalated.
I really wish I could have seen the deleted stuff though. I only feel
half-informed, although I think I've seen enough to see his potential. I
just haven't seen the hurt and damage he's inadvertantly caused. Which is
why I appreciate your input so much.
Damn that computerless era!

I told him that he could have been a bit more tactful in what he said and
that the picture gallery was not a pick-up bar and he then condescended me
by saying that I shouldn't take frustrations from negative experiences at
the pick-up bars on him. *shrugs* Water under the bridge, I'm willing to
let him earn my respect. We were all guilty of being tactless before, just
felt like this one did its worst for the time. As long as things are under
control, as I said, I'm willing to let him prove himself.
not all of us are guilty of it in the past... I am guilty of it now... it
just saves time to brutally honest...

of people "it". saves time pretending i care what they have between thier
legs.

Yeah, sounds like my Shmooth. The sort of thing he would probably say to
someone in person and they wouldn't mind. I don't think any offense was
meant, just a lack of discretion in assuming that people would immediately
understand his intentions without knowing him first. If one of our
residents said the same thing, we probably would have laughed it off.
An ounce of discretion is worth a pound of cure.

Se, that's one thing that bothered me during the whole thing. An
established member did start making hateful comments, calling names, things
that were worse than what Shmooth had said. For a long time, nobody said
anything. Some people did eventually come out and say to lay off it, but
nothing like what happened to Shmooth. I said nothing because I was unsure
of the person's pet status for one, and for two, it was so over the top, I
was sure it was a test of some sort, to prove that we'd jump on a stranger
for a slight infraction, but if an established member did something
similar, we'd all let it go. The situation was eventually corrected, but
it left a bad taste in my mouth, just the same. I think Shmooth deserves a
chance at a fresh start, like I said before, he does seem to be
intelligent. I'm sure he's sorry for the trouble he caused, and I'm also
sure that he got way more negative attention than he really wanted. It
would be good to start this over and let bygones be bygones and get back to
regular shmenginess...
The other member upset me greatly... for the reasons you mentioned...
Honestly... when an established member acts in the manner of a dipshit, I
feel that (since they are family) they should be bitchslapped FASTER than a
newbie... shown that we don't take it from out enemies, and we sure as FUCK
won't take it from our friends...

schiz can choose anyone she wants as a pet. we have all had pets the others
didnt agree with or love. I was voicing my worry that perhaps she wouldnt
have TIME for a pet, one that was on so often at least, because she has a
life too. if i was unclear about that, I am really sorry.
and that "speach" is the same speach i give to anyone that thinks they want
a pet. well the shortened version because i know she would follow thru,
keep giving until they really didnt need it, and keep thier best interests
in mind with all that she did with them.
