This is one of those philosophical questions that should be discussed at
every coffee shop, but isn't. Probably because most people are afraid to
know the answers - as they probably should be.
What makes people cool?
I'm not talking about what makes them seem socially compelling. I'm
talking about the genuine shit. The people that are just on the vibe and
undenyably cool without trying.
Everybody list only one quality per post and defend it. DON"T repeat what
anyone else has said or everyone will laugh at you for being redundant and
uncool.
I'll start:
Cool people are Lucid.
They are clear thinkers and pay attention to and understand what is going
on around them. They understand other people's issues and behavior, and
have their own clear ideas. ____________________ So Sayeth Me |

Cool people know the difference between what they belive, what they
think, and what they know.
They may beleive that the world is flat, think that Columbus was a nutter,
and know how fast the earth rotates around the sun.
They know the differences between what thier heart tells them, their mind
tells them, and what society tells them. And when to pay attention to each.

Cool people know who they are.
Beyond anything else, they know what makes them special, what defines thier
thoughts and beliefs. The understan how this affects their interactions
with the universe and others and know their strengths and weaknesses.

Cool people have chutzpah
"Chutzpah" is the Yiddish equivalent of "balls" in the figurative sense.
Cool people are the ones who aren't afraid to tell you what they think,
even if you think they are wrong. Cool people will tell you when you
fucked up, how you fucked up, and how you can fix (or at least do damage
control) on what you fucked up. These are the people who can call you a
fucktard with genuine feeling, and yet still make it clear that they loved
you enough to call you a fucktard to call attention to the error of your
ways...and cared enough to let you make your own mistakes...and not just so
they could call you a fucktard later... ____________________ "To Live is to Annoy." -- Rev. Lambert Reilly, Archabbot, St. Meinrad Abbey |

I disagree with Cool people have chutzpah
While some certainly do, I have met shy mousy people who are still cool.
I've met people with low self esteem who are still cool. I've met people
with complete agorophobia who are still cool.
I don't think chutzpah is a universal attribute of coolness in the same way
as the 3 statements above it. ____________________ So Sayeth Me |

Cool people aren't afraid to admit when they are wrong
Whether it was a previous belief they had held about something or someone,
or just some inane little factoid, cool people will admit that they were
off, take in the new info and get on with their cool lives. They don't
dwell on their mistakes in a futile manner, they learn something new and
move on. ____________________ Okay, dazzle me. |

Cool people know when to talk and when to just listen.
They know when it's a time to be talking themselves, and when it's a time
to just sit back, relax, and maybe even smile a little, while they let
others do some talking. ____________________ "When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never

"Cool people do stupid things. That’s what makes them cool." -FLCL
Don't think jackass like stuff automatically makes you cool. Think of
those people who fought a loosing battle, people who stood up against the
majority, fighting for idiotic things like ideas and morals. Think Joan of
Arc; she did a stupid thing refusing to deny her faith, and die for it.
I know this coincides with the chutzpah posts, but people do unintentional
stupid things without thinking of the consequences and wind up cool.

Cool people are observant
I don't mean tSherlock Holmes observant, but they do know what is going on
around them. They can tell when a person is down and needs a hug, they can
tell when the person they are trying to cheer up has had enough, and they
can see when the people around them are in a good mood. They can also see
the mood of a crowd and how it's going to affect those around them. ____________________ It is only through the lack of sex that humanity derives the need for an

Cool people have a life
Cool people have a real life, with real worries and feelings, and that is
the center of their thoughts and feelings. That real life is what gives
them that solidness, that density that attracts people the way great masses
atract smaller ones, the fact that, to them, the drappings of life are just
the drappings of life and not life itself. thus they can treat with disdain
what uncool people cavet. Status, adoration, role modelling, überness...
these are really unimportant compared to their real lives |

Cool people have standards and priorities
They know what they want and how important it is to them. A cool person can
want some new toy or outfit and is able to see how that fits into their
schedule/budget/whatever without the need to consult everyone they know.
They can also make decisions based on fact and reality without losing sight
of their dreams. ____________________ It is only through the lack of sex that humanity derives the need for an

Devin: I disagree with your disagreement; however I do see your point.
Case in point:
"Part of the uniqueness of Yiddish words like chutzpah is that their
meaning varies depending on context and degree. In the right circumstances
and to the right degree chutzpah may intimate spunk. But in the wrong
situation or to an improper degree, chutzpah implies insolence. In fact
chutzpah can have such negative connotation that the word itself has
occasionally caused litigation."
from http://www.jlaw.com/Commentary/SupremeChutzpah.html
Anyway, I was raised with the definition of "Chutzpah" being more about
"spunk" than about "insolence." Believe me, I know plenty of cool people
with chutzpah who never make their points with a sledgehammer or by raising
their voices ala Roseanne, who gave chutzpah a negative persona. Of
course, I also know plenty of cool people with Roseanne-quality chutzpah,
so that's why I consider it something that cool people have.
Like anything else, it's a matter of perspective.

Cool people have Vibe
They subconsciously or consciously know how to move vibe around. They may
do it with art, music, writing, speaking, dancing, or any number of ways,
but they all do it. They may have any number of names for it, but they all
know what it is.
===----====----
And LC, I still disagree, not because your argument is necessarily wrong,
but because it makes no sense and I can't understand the argument.
To recap:
You said cool people are extroverts
I said cool people can be introverts too
You said i'm wrong because of Rosanne (i think)
If you're saying what I think you're saying, I think my next response is
supposed to be "Who says cool people need to make points?" - but I'm not
sure that's what you're saying so I don't know if that's what I'm supposed
to say.

Devin, my point was that having chutzpah has nothing to do with being
extroverted or introverted. I know introverted people with spunk, and
chutzpah has been given a bad connotation because of people who act like
Roseanne did in the 1990s.
You aren't wrong to disagree with me; that's the beauty of a discussion. I
apologize for not being more clear with my point; I have a lot on my mind,
and the only reason I even posted a justification for my opinion was so I
didn't come across as someone who would post an opinion, then fade out when
that opinion was questioned. I'm not someone who's easily offended by
someone disagreeing with me. It's just not the foremost thing on my mind
right now.
If I'm still not making sense, feel free to shoot me.

Cool people can separate their likes and dislikes from their core
personality.
It seems like lately I've been meeting lots of people who take it
personally when I don't like their favorite band, or their favorite TV
show, or even their favorite food. A cool person can absolutely love
something I think is awful. If they ask my opnion about it, and I tell them
I think it's awful they won't be offended. Because they are confident
enough to understand that not liking their favorite thing isn't the same as
not liking them. Really cool people can apply this principle to big things,
like beliefs. ____________________ Wind me up and make me crawl to you, tie me up until I call to you. |

Cool people can live by example.
Cool people do not need to preach or boast about anything in public.
They're above the need to brag about getting laid, being
"holier-than-thou", or anything of the like. They can simply live by
action and are above the need to justify their selves with words. |

I agree with Cool people can live by example , but I don't agree
with your definition. Cool people do brag about getting laid, they do
boast, and by nature of being cooler than everyone else, they are
"holier-than-thou" and sometimes they act like it. This does not keep them
from being cool. There are attributes of cool people that have to do with
that stuff, but they would be stuff like "Cool people only brag about
getting laid to people they know will appreciate it" - or "Cool people are
only holier-than-thou when it's appropriate".
Cool people can live by example means that cool people can learn
from other people's mistakes. When they were developing their coolness,
they could identify who was cool and change their behavior to match. They
can enjoy the story of Sid and Nancy and use their experiences in place of
having to experience that stuff for themselves. Cool people can see
someone do something stupid, and not have to do it themselves. It's
amazing how many people can't do this.

Actually, thats not true; I know several cool people who hate squirrels.
But Cool people are in tune with nature.
