quote: ABU QASH, West Bank —
Raped by her brothers and impregnated, Rofayda Qaoud refused to commit
suicide, her mother recalls, even after she bought the 17-year-old a razor
with which to slit her wrists.
quote: Armed with a plastic
bag, razor and wooden stick, Qaoud entered her sleeping daughter's room
last Jan. 27. "Tonight you die, Rofayda," she told the girl, before
wrapping the bag tightly around her head.
and even worse,
quote: The children say they've
forgiven Qaoud and return her affection.
"My mother did this because she does not want us to be punished by people,"
Fatima explains with a shy smile. "I love my mother much more now than
before."
And the worst part is that I am not even surprised that someone could do
that to their own daughter.. |

I don't know what surprises me more: the fact that the father was actually
telling his wife that murdering their daughter would be wrong, or the fact
that the younger kids are okay with this. Do familes really value honor
above justice? Why didn't the brothers have to die? Why was the victim
punished? How could the mother be so shallow? How could a woman murder
her own child after she had been brutally violated and carried that child
to term?
The world's not just sick and disgusting; it's downright poisonous...
I think I'll take a shower now and try and think some happy thoughts...

What the Hell...
I can't believe that they did that to their own daughter...when it was not
even her fault she got raped and impregnated.

Yep...the dad said that it violated the Qu'ran.
Honor above the love of a child...how could a mother be so cold?
Something to add to the list of things that make me cry...

*shakes my head*
I hope that something is done with the mother...if she goes through
a...unfortunate...fate...well, what she gets for letting her sons get away
with such crud then doing that to the daughter.
Yes, sadistic mind in these tired eyes... |

I hope that mother will die of a horrible death. I'm against the death
penalty, but there are times when it's the right thing to do. That woman
shouldn't be let anywhere near a child, their personality still forming. I
never thought I'd see a child saying that she loves her mother because she
murdered her sister... ____________________

Um, Feral, the husband, the MAN of the house, told hid wife that killing
their daughter would violate that rule about murder in the Qur'an. By the
edicts of Islam, the woman had both defied holy law AND her husband. Her
crime was an act of obsession rather than an act of someone obeying her
religious and cultural mores. God, Goddess, or whatever higher power may
or may not be has the right to ultimately judge her action...but it still
violated holy law...
And your link didn't work, hon.

Well, here's a Muslim's take on Islam's stance on rape as opposed to that
of Christianity and Judaism:

Feral: Man... Just goes to show how much we've been conditioned to buy buy
buy without regard to anything else. blah.
What I'm wondering about is: Why do people rush so much? The sales
(according to the news; I wasn't out there) weren't that spectacular,
prices weren't slashed very much. Yet people thought they HAD to get all
their shopping done...
I shall never understand the human being.
But as for the main subject, I'm not sure what I feel about it. On one
hand, yes, this was an atrocious, uncompassionate act. But (like Feral was
getting at, I think) where do we draw the line in messing with other
people's cultures? I don't just mean religion, but culture as a whole.
As Americans, we would never condone such an act.
But maybe from the mother's perspective, it was the responsible thing to
do.

Iron: no... it shows that as the subject does not effect me in any way...
and as I am NOT mainstream in my beliefs... I REFUSE to make a judgement,
when I am not effected and cannot be well informed on the subject...
BY THE WAY... I am not capitalist... SOCIAL ANARCHIST... I find the
reference to buy buy buy conditioning more than mildly offensive *grins*
but I;ll let you slide thist time...

Also... anyone that supports any national government, organised religion,
or political ideal supports this kind of behavior, but in many cases on a
grander scale

I didn't mean you, Feral... my 'buy' complaint was directed towards the
people in your link about the trampling at wal-mart.

Sure it was a great price, but was it really worth it to trample another
human being?
Thank God I do my shopping online and off peak hours...*sigh*

lady cygnet... you would probably be surprised... many would be surprised
by my opinion on something like this...
if someone is dumb enough to put themselves in a situation like that, then,
honestly.... they truly deserve what they get... day after thanksgiving...
the biggest shopping day of the year... there is history of fights in
stores, riots in malls... with history like that, one should avoid any
situation that would put themselves in the line of fire... ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.
