Well, you wonder why I always dress in black, Why you never see bright
colors on my back, And why does my appearance seem to have a somber
tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on. I wear the black for
the poor and the beaten down, Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of
town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, But is there
because he's a victim of the times.
Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose, In our streak of lightnin'
cars and fancy clothes, But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held
back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.
I wear it for the sick and lonely old, For the reckless ones whose bad trip
left them cold, I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have
been, Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.
And, I wear it for the thousands who have died, Believen' that the Lord was
on their side, I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.
Well, there's things that never will be right I know, And things need
changin' everywhere you go, But 'til we start to make a move to make a few
things right, You'll never see me wear a suit of white.
Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day, And tell the world that
everything's OK, But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

I'll fly a starship across the universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again, and again, and again, and again

I hardly knew him... Yet I know he was probably the most honest peron in
music... Him and Jim Croce...
But I'm sure he's happy now. ____________________ Piggy's got the Conch! |

My dad was always a huge Johnny Cash fan, and so his music is somethingI
have literally grown up with. How very sad that he is gone. ____________________ Wind me up and make me crawl to you, tie me up until I call to you. |

I knew his time to pass on was getting near...but I still cried when I saw
the news of his passing. He was one of those beings who could make you feel
as if you've known him or met him whether you have or not. ____________________ "When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never

It's pissing me off... all of the people who have contributed to our
culture in recent times... (on the galactic scale) are dying... John
Ritter, douglas adams... this sucks...

As much as I feel for the family of John Ritter, for me the death of Cash
simply overshadowed it all. He was an individual who could touch and
strike a chord in every type of person, no matter their music preferences,
faith, race, culture, economic status, political stance, family life, life
experiences....I know people who range from loving bubblegum pop to
hardcore cop killer rap who were deeply affected by the news of his death.
It just wasn't the music, the charisma, the attitude, he just WAS. A high
roller and a working class hero, a dope smoking liberal christian country
singer, a cultural Icon and a simple humble man. He was without pretense.
I still get chills when I remember the opening line of his TV show...that
smooth gravely voice proclaiming "hello, I'm johnny cash".
On Larry King last night it was confirmed by John's brother that he
completed one more album before his death, to be released next year titled
"american five", and that there are more than 100 songs "in the can" that
have never been released before so that we may enjoy his amazing gift to us
for a little while longer. I'm looking forward to it. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |
