Are there any Shmenglings in or around the San Diego area? Paris and I are
heading out at the end of July for part business trip, part ten day
vacation. Any good clubs we should check out? Restaurants? Weird or
interesting things to do?
We're going to be spending a LOT of time downtown...

Well technacailly I live there, I have more time out to sea than in home
port. As far as things to do... Some times they have good art in the gas
lamp area. The art is in the shops just go in and and enjoy it, or hate it.
Their are independent film shows their from time to time too. That is if
that is your thing. As for as coffie shops my favorate ones are in the hill
chrest area. If you ask for it people may look at you funny. It is the
ranbow part of town. I hate how people still segirate on race and
sexuallity. As far as clubs Sabbat is reconmended (www.clubsabbat.net). It
to is in the hillcrest area. Some thing else that I enjoy Is a smoke house
called hookah. It is a big black and glass bilding. Bring your pad and
just draw/wright, shoot pool or play a game of chess while smokeing your
hookah. I think hookah is the spelling, It is the thing the cattipiller
smoked in Alice. As for sights. When I need to clear my head I take I-8 to
the state line.
Nice rock formations and a chalange to drive at +85 mph and not get busted
by cops. Some thing else that is cool is to drive north along the beach,
untill you reach the drop off cliffs. It is nice to watch a storm come in
from the ocean while standing on a cliff. Los Angels is a two hour drive
north (the longest time it toke me). That place is cool. If you are looking
for more clubs I posted a international goth clubs link page at this site.
That might be helpful

Don't forget Balboa park. Sunday afternoons are good just to stroll around,
jumping in and out of the museums, people are out and about, and there are
some awesome sidewalk entertainers, like the armless guy who can play
guitar with his feet. On monday nights there are free classical music
concerts and the like at the Organ Pavilion, and on Tuesdays, certain
museums will be free, depending on which tuesday it is. I'm pretty sure you
can find the schedule online, and pick and choose accordingly.
The entirety of the Gaslamp district is fun. I would highly recommend
taking the trolley down there so you don't have to find, and then pay for
parking. IF you want good mexican food, beyond the many holes in the wall
we have, go to Old Town. There are also lots of neat stores that sell
really awesome stuff down there. The ever famous Whaley house is also in
Old Town.
Sea Port Village is near the Gas Lamp area, and that makes for a relaxing
day, especially if you are like me, and liek being around water.
The thing about the Sabbat is that, last time I checked, is only there on
saturday nights. I think Therapy is still up and running. That takes place
three friday nights a month at the Flame in hillcrest. You can find out
much much more about it at www.klubs.com.
Between you and me, I would take Therapy over the sabbat. The Sabbat draws
a lot of the "I'm a vampire!" crowd, moreso than it used to. Therapy tends
to have a slightly older crowd.
For beach time fun, should you so desire to actually go in the water, I
highly recommend La Jolla. Stick to the north side, in between the surf
areas, near the fake pier. It tends to be a little less crowded, and it is
right by the Scripps Aquarium preserve. You can take a walk along the
preserve, oh an ah, giggle at the crabs, and tickle the anemones to your
hearts content as long as you don't remove anything. Standard stuff. It is
neat to see shoreline habitats that haven't been picked over by stupid
people who decide they need some sort of living souvenier.
I am probably missing some stuff, but that should give you a least an idea.
San Diego is packed with stuff, it's very easy to spend lots of time down
here.
