You know, Silent Hill wasn't half bad...it even got me to wince, and I
don't do that very often.
I believe this simple equation will sum it up nicely.

Yes! Silent Hill was amazing! Leave it to Cristopher Gans (director of
Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf, and H.P. Lovecraft's Necronomicon) to
recognize genius in the original game and honor it as best as he could. He
even copied some of the exact camera movements from the first game and used
the entire original score by Akira Yamaota (plus a well-apprecfiated
selection from Johnny Cash).
As for Japanese horror movies, I believe they suffer in American culture
because we expect simpler stories. Often, Japanese horror films have way
too much going on which complicates the whole lot (possibly brought on by
the Japanese love for miniseries's and anime). Therefore, "Suicide Club"
was a tremendous film steeped in gore (the opening scene is 54 uniformed
school girls standing arm-in-arm as they jump in front of the subway), but
"the plot thickens" so much that you have trouble swallowing it.
Another great movie was the Tobe Hooper (original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
and Poltergeist director) remake of the Toolbox Murders. That movie has
more corpses than Saving Private Ryan!
A great korean horror film- R-Point. Takes place during the Vietnam War- a
platoon is sent to R-Point to determine the whereabouts of a missing
platoon. R-Point turns out to be an ancient, abandoned, and luckily,
haunted buddhist temple.
The french film, High Tension, excelled in gore, but not story. After all,
it begins with a guy getting head in the driver's seat of a truck, and
you're all like oh yeah, until he picks up the head off his lap and tosses
it out the window, then your like OH YEAH!!!!
Mullholland Drive still fringhtens me, just because I keep thinking "if I
watch it one more time, maybe then I'll understnad," but no, I could not be
farther from revelation.
If anyone could find it, Begotten is a great film (more of an expiremental
art piece). It was the debut of E. Elias Mirhage, who later went on to
direct The Shadow of the Vampire and a couple of Marilyn Manson music
videos. The piece doesn't have much of a story, mostly disturbing images
that must have been the inspiriation for the Ring.
Another hard to find film is the Chinese "Men Behind the Sun," it's a fake
documentary detailing the expirements that the Japanese performed on
chinese POW's durring WWII. But what is so fanatastic about is that the
gore is all achieved through real cadavers! You can't get shit like this in
America...
And of Course, I'm going to have to throw in one of my favorites- The
Wicker Man. 1970's, Scotland. Something wierd is going on in the island of
Summerisle, and it ain't the Lord's work (all to an eerie folk soundtrack).
Starring Brit Eckland and Christopher Lee.

director who did The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Metropolis, and the Dr.

Sorry to call you out on this, but Nosferatu was directed by F. W. Murnau,
the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari by Robert Wiene, and Metropolis by Fritz Lang
(who also Directed "M," which was the first serial killer movie and started
Peter Lorre's acting career).

I disagree...
Shadow of a Doubt was truly the first serial killer movie, but this
argument has been raging for 80+ years (mainly because the serial aspect is
in the back story)
and lorre was acting before that in Der Weiße Teufel and Mann ist Mann

I'm just waiting for a good horror movie .. I want to get scared ..
the last "scary" movie I saw is When a Stranger Calls .. holy cow ..
crap!!! I hate when they do ANYTHING to scare! A cat walked next to the
girl, and it made this huge sudden noise, so everyone got scared ¬¬ they
did that kind of things during all the movie .. something normal happened
but they made a big sound effect to scare the audience .. That is simply
stupid .. ____________________ †‡ Even when the dead nights are gone those

I grew up on the old Twilight Zone, yeah that shit will fuck with your
head. but today's stuff is mostly all about blood and guts. I can handle
that no problem. the only movie that ever gave me nightmares was The Ten
Comandments, with Charlton Heston. (go A head make fun of me I don't care
)
I have no earthly idea why, I was fairly young when I first saw it and
it scared the shit out of me. ____________________

Yeah. When I first played doom3 it scared the fuck out of me. But
anyway!
As far as piss-your-pants scare factor movies I recommend a movie called
"Hard Candy". It's not really scary but it has to be one of the most
uncomferable movie ever made.
Another good one is called "Jesus Camp". It's not really a horror flick but
watching it unnerved the hell out of me. I would post a link but im not
sure how... so if your interested go to youtube.com and type it in. Trust
me its fucked up. ____________________ Aim for the head, Shaun of the dead. |

I feel ya on that one. The imp at first had me literally yell out HOLY
FUCK! and I jumped out of my bean bag chair. Another thing that scared me
was the whole atmosperic background music and effects. ____________________ Aim for the head, Shaun of the dead. |

You know what's even creepier? That's pretty much how I grew up... I
watched that, and it felt like home... how scary is that?
Yup, I was a brainwashed child-soldier for Christ... and I remember the
pledge to the Christian flag, too...
"I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and to the Savior, for whose
Kingdom it stands... one Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with
life and liberty for all..."
Or something like that...
And now it's subject for a horror film... oh well, guess it's fitting... ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and the
