Observation:
The Hot Topic ad reads: "clicK heRe" If yoo were to get rid of the capital
letters it would read: "cliche"

no, it would read "clichee"....and actually, since the L is capitalized,
its "cichee"
interesting thought though... ____________________ l33t is the bastard cousin of contractions. |

I dont normally make excuses for myself but my primary interest is
Hermetics of which communication is at the center. The unconcious implants
hidden messages in every imaginable way. I had assumed that whoever put
the ad together unconciously put the message there, I was wrong and said
something about myself instead.
Prejudice against Hot Topic? Sure, but almost everything Ive purchased
there was overpriced, of poor quality, and probably made by little kids
being paid a dollar a year for dipping their hands in sulpheric acid in
India. In addition, my local Hot Topic happens to be located in the
worldīs biggest mall (groan) and therefor I associate the two.
Does this mean Im prejudiced against the employees or shoppers there? No,
just the corperation.
As for paranoid. Perhaps I am, but Im not crazy.
My apologies. ____________________

It *is* a conspiracy theory; by making innocent people read the sign and
pick up on possible subconcious messages contained within the actual result
is that the people just spend lots of time thinking about Hot Topic.
The more they think about the hiden messages the more their subconcious
will just vizualise the words īHot Topicī in bright pink glowing stuff. So
the innocent people who were only looking out for the good of mankind have
become corrupted and their brains are thinking only of Hot Topic.
The result? They spend money in Hot Topic whilst pondering the subconcious
messages hidden within various signs. ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

No, not thinking yourīe prejudiced, just found it very very funny and hey, it
worked, you thought about them long enough and hard enough to post
something! ooooo maybe they are out to get you....*shudder*
Actually, if you price their clothing with other stores and like
merchandise, youīll find the MENīS clothes especially are VERY
reasonable...the lounge shirts rarely EVER exceed 42.00, and most of them
are 32-34.00...same with slacks..30-40 but the caffine and mac gear tech
pants are pricey īcause of all the WORK that goes into them...by americans,
I might add ..I know the hot topic brand morbid is, but I canīt speak for
caffine and mac gear and ufo...maybe i"ll look into that today and report
back
The girls stuff is more expensive, but hell it is EVERYWHERE...and I have
shirts and shoes and pants Iīve bought there over a year ago that I wear
regularly that still hold up. maybe itīs me.
Speaking of such, I gotta shower and shit for work.

Well, I guess yoo would know so I stand corrected on the sweatshop
issue.
I think the mens clothes are very limited there. I once saw HT selling a
ripped T-shirt (thats right, factory ripped) for $40! And it actually
looked worse than the Tshirts I used to destroy myself which never cost
more than $8. Hell, the act of slashing and throwing knives and shuriken
at a torso shaped target is almost worth $8.
The piercing accesories are definatly overpriced and generally (although
not always) of poor quality. Their jewelry is normally pretty lame but I
have found some pretty impressive stuff there. And then theres spikes;
giant spikes cost 3/$1 at the punk record store down the street, at HT
small spikes (which are never sharp and the nickel coating peels away like
a banana peel) cost a buck apiece.
Im not trying to say HT is lame because its cool to say its lame. Im
saying its lame because its just another corporation that pedals crappy
merchandise. ____________________

You also have to understand that in the little "mom and pop" punk shops
they probably get them cheaper or make them themselves, and for a giant
corporation to turn a dollar, they have to have a certain margin of "price
markup" to turn a profit...on EVERYTHING.
I donīt disagree that some of the stuff is crap...but 99.9% of the stuff
isnīt made by us...I think we do most of the shoes (or buy them cheap from
a manufacturer and relabel them...everyone does) and I think we OWN the
"morbid" label, but donīt manufacture our own merch....Itīs all stuff you
can find at the metro, or top shop, or any online fetish, rockabilly,
lounge, goth, retro etc retail store (bc ethic and casino at nordstromīs
and bon marche)...so itīs not crappy īcause we make it or even sell it,
itīs crappy because either the manufacturer made it crappy (and I never
hear anyone complain about the quality of lipservice or serious..both of
which we sell hmmm) or because itīs a frail item not made for everyday wear
and tear and people donīt understand that...and if it DOES bust on you
regardless, we happily return anything defective.
As for the limited menīs I do also agree that it is limited, mostly itīs
lounge/rockabilly and emo and "street" like t-shirts and jeans. But I do
disagree on the price (except for some of the fancy pants "goth" stuff, but
hell, itīs that way everywhere). Hell you wanna talk price gouging hit a
local metro and check a tag while not being waited on by some uber snob
filing their acrylic nails.
Overall itīs a hugely sucessful company that treats itīs employees VERY
VERY WELL and tries hard to have satisfied customers and happy workers.
It has itīs pros and cons, like every other major corporation, but you have
to admit it takes a lot of flack unjustly. To avoid the "this is crap"
statement when someone buys something I think theyīre going to treat
incorrectly, I let them know it is a special occasion item, and itīs
intended for the usual abuse people put their clothes thru BEFORE I get
someone pissed because a seam broke or an arm snags. Hell, I agree, if
youīre buying a tee shirt and pants, they should take the abuse like a tee
shirt and pants...but people expect to be able to treat nylon and fishnet
and lace and satin and mesh like denim or canvas, or thin strappy shoes to
wear like sneakers. I buy my husbandīs clothes there (cheap shopping with
a discount, YAY) and theyīve withheld over a year of washing and drying and
working. And shopping elsewhere Iīve found the prices either comparable or
better even without a discount, really.
Everyone is allowed to have opinions, and whether you feel itīs cool to
call it lame or not, as you stated, itīs your opinion and you are 100%
entitled to it no questions asked....Iīm just hoping to put some light on
problems you may have had, or why you had a shitty experience with the
merch.
Yeah, I work for them and I have some company pride, as theyīve treated me
well when I quit after three and a half years at Spencerīs Gifts *gag*, and
they have my full backing, but hell, everyone has different experiences and
views and I know that. But Iīm not a full fledged "hot topic is god and
youīre just jealous" type....Iīve only met one or two of those types of
people and it was NOT fun...itīs a retarded cult mentality that the
mentally unstable acquire when they feel they are finally part of some non
existent exclusive "clique"....afterall as said, sleeping with a hot topic
employee does NOT make you goth *snicker* just ask my husband...we prefer
"new wave"

Please understand, Im a bitch because I like my clothes to be functional (I
cant stand boots that dont have enough traction to let me stroll up a
vertical wall and a steel toe thatīs strong enough for a DC-10 to run over)
which means I normally have to sacrifice a degree of style. I dont like
the idea of being cornered in an alley wearing an extremely restrictive and
inflammable outfit with my feet stuck in a pair of cinderblocks...actually,
that might be interesting.
I will say, friends who worked there said the company does treat its
employees well which is comendible since working retail can be alot like
the sort of girl I tend to get involved with, easy but a complete bitch. ____________________

Oh hell yes it IS a bitch...weīre SOOO unappreciated...be kind to retail
divas..unless itīs some bitch that workīs at the mac counter in
nordstromīs. If someoneīs met a nice one of those, Iīd pay to see it.
Nothing wrong with wanting your clothes to hold up, nothing at all, but
like I said, we donīt make them, and yes, unfortunately, the more intricate
or delicate something appears, itīs usually as frail and doesnīt take abuse
well or at all. Itīs frusterating, but sometime sacrifices must be made.
I swear Iīve met people that have had NOTHING but bad luck with our shoes,
but as to date Iīve only had one pair fall apart on me, but they were a 25
dollar pair of platform ankleboots and so I just nailed the bottoms back on
*grin*
And we do treat our peeps like fucking royalty...as far as Iīve seen, weīre
one of the few companies that offer raises to associates on twice yearly
appraisals in addition to raises in min wage. We can afford to...take a
look at our listing on the stock market *chaching* and I just qualified for
an employee stock purchase program *chaching*
Kids in retail DO get a lot of shit...ESPECIALLY during back to school and
holiday shopping. HOLY christ on a stick itīs INSANE..and people get so
RUDE and pushy, but you know what itīs my favorite time of year...busy busy
busy.
And I hate having to terminate seasonals..yes, they knew it wasnīt forever
but it still sucks.
Once you work retail you become the most courteous customer in the
WORLD...and you compulsively straighten when youīre in a messy department
store....itīs a disease.
And retail makes you mean...MEAN.
People are always like "Youīre so lucky you get to wear what you want to
work!"
Yeah, but it also means I have to PICK OUT something to wear to work and
risk looking like shit when I get there.
Someday Iīll get a big girl job....yeah right.

Ooooooh, The Prisoner was so twisted! I loved that show. There need to be
more shows about sheer insanity. The Limies just know how to do TV better.
Between The Prisoner and The Young Ones, TV could actually be worth
watching.
Incidently, I actually have masturbated with a chainsaw (long story), and
yoo must not be doing it right because it wasnīt terrific or anything but
it was interesting, certainly not bad. ____________________
