The way I see it is this: We're gonna all die someday, may as well enjoy
the ride. Don't bug me constantly with anti-smoking or anti-meat ads. You
smoke, you smoke. You don't, you don't...just be considerate of others;
smokers and non.
A good friend of mine, his mother is dying from cancer. She's been a smoker
for about 30 years. The thing is, she's no concerned with death but rather
concerned with her family and living each day to it’s fullest.
I learned alot from that.
I am a non-smoker. I was raised by two smoking parents who either didn't
understand or didn't believe that me continually breathing in their
cigarette smoke was harmful to me as a young child. Consequently I was sick
a lot as a kid , but now as a grown up and married to a non-smoker I am not
sick very often at all. I'm not preaching that people shouldn't smoke, I'm
just stating that when I was growing up parents routinely smoked in the
same room as their kids. Most smokers realize nowadays the harm in
cigarette smoke and a lot of them don't smoke around non-smokers. However,
there are always exceptions.
I don't tell smokers not to smoke, but I don't allow smoking inside my own
home when people visit. I actually had to stop being friends with someone
over the smoking issue. She smoked in her own home with her kids and
animals present, which that is fine as it's not illegal to do so. I never
asked her to smoke in another room while I would visit her, but I told her
up front that I would need to go outside while she smoked inside her home
and I would come back in when she was done. She said this was fine with
her. However, she would come over to my house and not understand why she
couldn't smoke all over the house or run inside with a lit cigarette and
then back out. I am actually quite allergic to cigarette smoke and I am
very aware of this now that I don't live with a permanently runny nose. She
got irritated that I would sneeze when she'd come in with herself and her
kids covered in smoke-smelling clothes (which I had witnessed her putting
on herself and her kids over and over again without ever washing them).
Eventually she wrote me a nasty note saying that essentially she didn't
think I had the right to not like smelling smoke in my own home even though
I honored her rights in her home. So I just decided to not contact her
anymore. I did her a favor and jumped her car when she asked me to, and
then I just didn't contact her anymore. I believe we figured out we just
weren't supposed to hang out with our differences.
I guess I am in an elaborate way trying to state the fact that in your own
home, you are queen or king. People coming into your home should honor that
fact. I have absolutely no problem with someone coming in smelling as if
they've simply been smoking; that smell diminishes shortly after they have
come back inside from smoking. I have a problem with people who smoke in
the same clothes every day and don't bother to wash them, because they
think they aren't dirty. Well they may not have grime all over them, but
they are apt to offend non-smokers with the degree of stank on them.
Showering is a helpful good hygiene activity. You'd shower after working
out playing a sport most likely on a daily basis, and likewise most smokers
will shower after a day of smoking. It's the exception who don't seem to
realize the level of offensive smell they put off. At my work, the smokers
are usually considerate of the non-smokers and don't harbor strange body
odors for days upon end. I guess my other point would be that if you are
going to smoke, please shower or bathe regularly and wash your clothes. I
won't complain if those simple rules of hygiene are followed. Thank you for
your time and patience.

One reason I quit on smoking was from the smell left on my cloths. Only
when I'm extremely stressed out will I pick up a pack. That's when my other
alternatives don't work. - Aye, I'm in the "live and let live" policy. When
under another person's roof, you're under their rules, be considerate of
them. When outside, just use common sense.
whenever i see my four-year-old daughter, she smells like she herself has
been smoking. her father smokes outside the house (just as we had when i
smoked and was with him), but her clothes still smell dirty. im sure she
smelled just as bad before, i just notice it more.
i also, still smoke, maybe one when i get frazzled, but i always choke on
it. **shrugs** im sure that one day that "stress time" craving will leave
me too. its just hard right now being that my boyfriend smokes. hey, at
least im saving money.

I never really gaged or cough at all...eh. Aye, that’s another thing.
Smokes cost too much damn money, as the original topic of this thread
stated. A few Black & Milds or a pack of Marlboro menthols aren’t as cheep
as they once were.
I have a two quick thoughts about this. Driving the prices up on smokes is
supposed to deter young’ins from smoking but wouldn’t upping the prices so
damn much drive the kids to other drugs? They may want more bang for their
buck and seek out other options.
Also banning smoking would just lead to the same epidemic as the
prohibition act of 1920(?).
Those thoughts just popped into my head, I just wanted to put it out into
the air here.

As a smoker myself (regretfully) I see one very simple solution to the
smoking issue: Make the additives to cigarettes illegal!
Not all of them obviously as nicotine is an additive (I shit yoo not, just
another example that American Spirits and Winston ARE NOT ADDITIVE-FREE)
and because some people want clove, menthol, etc. The point is, it doesn't
take a genius to realize that arsenic (in the tobbacco), gunpowder (in the
paper), and asbestos (in the filter) are REALLY FUCKING BAD FOR YOO, worse
for yoo than the tobacco itself. Not that inhaling the fumes from anything
burning is good for yoo.
Why hasn't anyone come-up with this before?

Cigarettes here cost about £2 something for a pack of ten, not really sure
how that equates to dollars. I'm fine with the price, especially as I don't
normally smoke that much. If I've had a really stressful day, then I will
smoke more but I normally smoke less than half a pack a day. It's just a
really good way to relieve stress / nerves.
I only started smoking this year, although for ages before hand I'd hung
out with people who *all* smoked. I never minded the small of cigarettes so
I didn't have a problem with them smoking. Thing is, they all respected the
fact that at the time I didn't smoke, and I didn't want to start. They
would go to lengths to make sure that I didn't end up with smoke in my
face, or permeating my clothing and I was grateful to them for that.
Ooooh yeah... As for bonging cigarette baccy. *Shudders* I got really bored
and tried that once. It's about as fun as jonging *anything*.

i know i'm a little late in saying this, but i haven't been able to keep up
with the forums as i'd like. So here it is for all to see: my two strips of
latnium! (read with caution) ciggeretts should be free. I doubt you'll find
anyone against smoking as I am, mostly because the smell makes me sick. I
mean no offence against smokers, in fact I have many friends who do. It's a
physical thing. They make me sick. Simple as that.
Anyway, yes, ciggeretts should be free! Why do I say this? Well, have you
ever worked in a grocery store? I swear, half the forking world is on food
stamps. Would you like to know what they do? Well, the food stamps go
twards frozen steaks, then they come through the line a second time to buy
ciggeretts and beer. Hell, beer should be free too!
You know why so many people are on food stamps??? Their weak minds have
been programed into thinking that they NEED ciggeretts and beer. I'm sorry,
perhaps I'm being biased here, but all things considered, both are
LUXURIES. If you can't afford stuf like that, then maybe you shouldn't be
buying it. However, I know that's not an option anymore in a lot of cases,
therefore a lot of problems would be solved if ciggeretts (and beer) were
free.
haha ok my logic sucks. I suppose I'm just sick of hearing about my mother
bitching about the taxes too. heh, oh well

Forgot something. I've always wondered why anyone would wanna smoke
tobacco. If you're going to wreck your lungs, you should at least get a
decent buzz from it!
those are the words that got my friend david to quit though he still
smokes a bowl when he can afford it. At least he smells better now *grin*
Smokes, haven’t touched one for three weeks now.
Weed, ack, waste of money and time. The way I saw some of my old friends
become flat out stoner slobs, I quit that for about two years, haven’t
looked back and am still counting. You can get a nice short buzz from
cigarettes, inhale more, heh. Besides, just walking outside here in NJ and
breathing in the toxic air will damage your lungs. *breaths and coughs* Oh
yeah.
Besides, ten bucks gets you a dime or a small bottle of these choices.
EverClear
AfterShock
Vodka
mmmmmm, stomach burning alcohol.
Also for poorer folk *i know because my family was very poor about...12
years back* smokes, alcohol and drugs simply numb reality for a short time.
A temporary fix is still as attractive as a fix. Oh and hard liquor makes
the body feel warmer...even though it thins the blood, if you’re on the
street, it’s a cheep, simple option.

God bless Okinawa !!! Everyone over here smokes and off base a pack of
brand name cigarettes comes to about $2.80 americn dollars. I know its not
good for me, but damnit I enjoy it. Besides, I'd rather live for 40 years
and die happy then live to 100 and be miserable. I do what I want cause I
enjoy it. Its my life and if its not bothering you then leave me the fuck
alone. I had to go have a physical the other day and the doctor who did it
(she was very cute ) just straight up said "You know smoking is evil" heh,
that explains a lot... hmmm. I think I need another physical.

Sadly at this time my grandmother is dying from over 25 years of smoking.
My grandfather died from it 3-4 years ago from the same. They both
developed emphesyma(lord knows I can't remember how to spell it), my
grandmother is at this point using an oxygen tank every day, all day. My
grandfather did the same just before he died. It makes me sick to hear her
wheezing, hacking, and coughing up tar constantly. My mother is also a
smoker, she has not yet developed these symptoms, but I figure she will
eventually. Those are my reasons to not smoke. I also know the other
reasons to not smoke, such as the contents of the cigarrettes. Not to say
I would never ever try one, but I do not plan on making it a part of my
life.

it entirely by saying that I wouldn't say that I would never try it. Yeah.

Wow, I just realised something after reading through this forum... I too
bitch quite a bit about the cigarette taxes here - a packet is a bit below
$10.
BUT the money actually goes to the healthcare system - which is free.
The logic being - if you're going to cost the society hundreds of thousands
(that would be in Kroner...) you actually have to pay for it too...
So actually - I can live with that! Ha ha ha, especially since I hardly
ever run out of tax free cigarettes, being the only smoker in a family of
travellers...

Oooh - the wonderful new laws that have just come out regarding cigerettes
here are... rather crappy. They're no longer allowed to sell cigarettes
that are called 'lights' or 'extra light' or anything like that. EG:
Superkings lights are now Superkings blue. Don't ask me why.
That also stuck a fucking ugly warning on the front and the back that gives
various warnings about smoking. This thing takes up over half of the fag
packet and says things such as "Smoking when pregnant harms your baby." I
think the best warning I've seen so far HAS to be "Smoking causes a slow
and painful death." Isn't that charming to have on the front of your
cigarettes?
The labels have actually gone down quite well here - the metaller kids tend
to try and 'collect the whole set!' - they cut them out and stick them on
their bags!

I guess the advantages of overseas are more than one would guess. Here,
boxes run anywhere from 50 cents to 2 dollars, more or less. Singles are
about 5-10 cents. Just my 2 cents.

If you're addicted, well, that's another issue, but if you're not.. why
would you do something that brings about no benifits? well, maybe
socializing with other smokers (sniff, I have no friends). Then again, I
have sort of a thing about chemicals... fuck, i wouldn't take my
prescription pain killers after my wisdom teeth were pulled (which really
sucks, for all those who haven't gotten them out).

When I started smoking, it wasn't to socialize. I was in freaking middle
school, and believe me, I found benefits.
I actually have managed to quit for the most part. It helps to have a room
mate who will bust a huge can of Catholic whoop ass on me if she finds me
smoking.

Smoking does have it benefits, cigarettes have vitamins and minerals that
you can only get from tobacco. I don't see any nicotine in those damn
Centrum commercials! seriously though, I started when I was 14. Firstly, It
made me look older, and when I would walk by people on the street, i wasn't
just some kid walking, I was some guy with a cigarette walking. which is
Bullshit, but hey, I was 14. Secondly, I just liked them. I liked the way
they tasted (honest!) the smell, the feel, everything. It gave me a
legitimant reason to carry a lighter, and I liked the way I looked. But
first and formost, I just liked them.
Oh, as for the actual reason this post was started, prices in florida are
spectacular. The state would be fudged if they pulled that expensive crap
here, because I could go to my local (literally down the street) Indian
smoking stand, and buy a pack of marlboro's for about 2.75! and thats the
way it is in most of the southern part of the state.
all this talk about smoking is making me want to, so bah to you all!
