The students I'm studying abroad in Germany with, or American Culture.
At first, I wanted to say, the students.
They don't care to even try and learn German.
They're loud, obnxious, and rude.
They're uninformed, no fuck that...not even curious to learn about their
political systems. German professors and people who have tried to pick at
the brains of American studies have found THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A FUCKING
BRAIN.
With that in mind, it's no surprise that they don't care to carry on a
conversation that involves ideas.
Instead, they want to frequent clubs and bars to talk about shit that
doesn't matter, 24/7.
In general, these Paris Hiltons believe they have a license to be a fucking
idiot until further notice.
I found myself hating on American culture the night I had a conversation
with one of the study-abroad students at a cafe. She and I had been
getting along good at some point until she said,
" I totally hate people who run around, swearing they're mature at 20, 21,
22...it's like, shut the fuck up. Get that stick outta your ass. Don't
pretend. Don't pretend like you're 27. Posers."
I thought that was a load of shit, and I let her know it. Instead of
attacking her, I attacked the culture of where we were from.
She ordered a beer afterwards and complained at how small the serving was.
And then she complained at how small everything was.
Of course, this is because in the States, we're used to everything
SUPER-SIZED! =D
Fucking kill me.
There are so many thoughts running around in my head that I'm afraid I
can't funnel them all down neatly and coherently, given the time constraint
I'm on.
I am embarassed by my country and the students who are representing
it.
When have you felt embarassment such as mine before?
yes... on the streets of new orleans and west viginia... in the library in
venice... in a restaurant in mexico... watching the news in my home or at
the grocerie store...
you live in a country where teh average iq is 83... 80, in clinical terms,
is moron

I get embarrassed when I see the types of programs that go out and ask
"people on the street" what they think of <insert political topic
here>.
The sheer stupidity, while annoying, is not surprising. The bigotry and
ethnocentrism, however, disturb me deeply.
I'm not railing against America on a day to day basis, but if the
opportunity to leave this country ever presents itself, I will take it, and
I have a feeling I won't be getting too homesick. In fact, when we first
moved back here from Germany, I got homesick for Germany.
