To all of the women of Shmeng:
If Shmeng has saved your life, helped you out significantly in life, helped
you become who you are, etc. then post your story here or private message
me.
I am doing a paper for my Psychology of Women class on how Shmeng is a
great organization and web community for women. I have a couple of people
and their stories in mind, but I would love to have some more information.
It doesn't have to be very long, but the more you can give me the better.
Thank you so much. This means a lot to me. This is my last paper of the
semester and I really want to get Shmeng out there and show how wonderful a
group we are.
If you just want to say that Shmeng has saved your life or has helped you
out in a great way without giving details that is alright too. I can use
the number of people who respond with that in my paper too.
Shmeng has helped me out big time. ____________________ "People always say what we are looking for is a meaning for life…I don't

Shmeng has definitely helped me - there are people of vision and
discernment here - they saw me when I was little and broken and lacking any
self-confidence, and stroked me and petted me and told me who I was until I
learned to stand tall and know myself.
And lately - there has been more - but I cannot speak of it now. Suffice
it to say, that I think it will turn out that the small and insignificant
act of stumbling across this little website is resulting in my entire world
just - changing, and opening up, in ways I never believed could happen to
me.
Pathetic that a mere, shmere web community could do so much for a person?
Perhaps... but when you look deeper into it - it is not the website, it is
the people behind it - Shmeng has become a gathering place of several
people who have the gift of seeing value and lifting it up to the light -
one cannot help but be changed for the better by associating with such a
company. |

Shmeng was one of the first places on the web that allowed me to speak my
mind and not be told to play nice and say only things of the sugar-coated
variety. With Shmeng, I stumbled into a community of people with actual
depth to their personalities and a presence that can be felt through the
computer and onto the other side. Shmeng has a touchstone quality to me. I
feel a connection to the others here, whether a lot of one on one talking
occurs or not, the feeling of community still seems to be there and that is
a big deal to me.
Besides the overall sense of community, there have been a few personal
times that having this place and this group of people helped keep me sane
and on track. A couple of these were health-related and at least one was a
serious self-esteem issue that cropped up and was quickly solved. It's
funny how easily a few well-thought words and suggestions and even
well-wishes can make such a dramatic difference, but I think a lot of that
has to do with the fact that there is so much thought, meaning and
sincerity behind many of the words spoken here at Shmeng and that is what
makes it such a special place. ____________________ "When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never

Shmeng has been a place for me to talk to people in English. For that I
shall always be thankful. I'm not sure that constitutes a saving, but it is
definitely better then a lot of the bar chatter round these parts. ____________________ It's like kegel exercises for your throat.~Monolycus |

I'm sorry I don't have a ton of time at the moment, but the short version
is that I've found a family here--the kind of family I can call when I'm at
my worst, with a razor blade in my hand, already bloodied or not... and I
can put it down after the conversation. It has literally been life-saving
for me. Thank you. ____________________ "I've told you before, I don't comprehend religion, although
