How the hell do you take care of a small(body smaller than a fist, 10-inch
wingspan), brown, eastern-european bat? The biology lab just got one...the
teachers were going to use him for dissection, but they couldn't stand the
whining and pleading of hundreds of students and he became the lab's
pet...thing is, we don't really know what to feed him. Well, except
insects, but you try to catch enough flies...The animal rescue/pet shop/vet
option is out of the question...the teachers said we keep him, alive or
dead. And...where should we keep him? Right now, he's living in a jar...we
were thinking a bird cage
Nobody's ever accused you of being a gentleman, so you're clear on that
point. Also, I hardly need anything coming from someone who acts like an
ill mannered child with a vocabulary. I can talk and type how I want and
if you don't understand it or like it, do what I do with you, and disregard
it.
And please be specific, or is this another general asshole statement?
You're getting really good at those lately.

bettsy: Fogive my obvious intrusion, but would you mind stating you age
again for the record? (How ungentlemanly of me!) I am confused as to
whether you are really 5 years old or whether you simply type that way.

Yay for dolo! I "adopted" a mexican freetail through bat conservation
international. We named him javier. Michael caught a bat who got into the
radio station booth when we were in college. When he put the box outside
to let it go, the ungrateful thing glared at him and barked at him then
took off.

Abb, I do know shit about bat physiology, so yank yourself. I know they
have the same number of bones in their bodies as humans, that they are
their own class and species, that if they had to be classified to the
closest species they share traits with they would be primates, and that
they aren't classified as primates solely based on their ability to
echolocate, and that their skeletons are nearly identical to humans with
the exception of the skull and elongated arm and finger bones. Amongst
other things. So to echo your own sudden inexplicable unreasonable
hostility, go fuck yourself.
Secondly, it depends on the area and the type of bat. What I meant by "one
baby a year" (both bats and humans) is not that they're INCAPABLE of
bearing one a year, it's that they reproduce not like cats or rats which
are in litters, but singletons, and like humans also, sometimes twins. I
know that in southern bats who do not hibernate, I suppose it is feasable
that they reproduce and give birth to one or two pups twice in a year. In
the north however, this does not happen. The bats breed in late august or
sept before hibernation, and the sperm is kept in stasis in the female bat
throughout the winter hibernation period, and only when she wakes in april
does she become pregnant, form in a maternity colony, and then give birth
to one to two pups. The pups are dependent on their mother for the next
two months, the babies emerging to begin to fend for themselves in
june-july.
What I was trying to make stille aware of, is that wiping out even a few
bats or, god forbid, even a small colony, does massive damage to bat
populations because in contrary to people's belief that they are "flying
rodents" and that they reproduce like rodents, that they reproduce at a
very slow rate when you take into account their ability to recover in
population from even moderate "wipeout" of their physical numbers or their
habitats.
So, are you done being an asshole or are your little prissy european undies
still in a big fat knot over something stuipd?

Huh...funny coincidence, I recently rehabilitated a little mexican
short-tail bat thingie about a week or so ago, he ran into a tree I was
passed out under. Found that some crushed up mealworms fed through a small
syringe can do wonders, also a high calorie food suppliment can make a
difference. I named it Absimiliaird, and hopefully he's still kicking balls
bat style out in the wild blue.
As for hurting things to learn...
I thought that pain, cruelty and all that sort of jazz walked side by side
with learning...sad, but ultimately true, leastways I believe it so.
plus, vivisection IS cool if you have power tools.

torture animals for the hell of it and annoyingl ittle redneck boys who
shoot harmless birds for the hell if it with their shotguns... rather
pointless and stupid. but living around them os much i am a bit
desensatized to it. though i do NOT agree with it.

I find it hard to accept advice on the English language from someone who
could write a paragraph like that.

I've not yet gone to college, but I thought they meant the same as well.
I just figured there was some inflection or something I was missing which
would make them different.
