and i'd like to know, what systems and settings you like best and why...

I play palladuim megaversal rules (rifts mostly)
AD&D 2nd edition
and white wolf
We normally play Rifts or some amalgam of all the megaversal systems
together since it fits all the players and GM's styles. ____________________ Sometimes I dream about dinosaurs shopping for cargo shorts at the Gap.

There's no way I would participate in them--maybe it's different
where you are, but where I'm from it's what the bored nerds do on Saturday
afternoons. I will give them some credit for being tremendously
entertaining, though. Sometimes on a Saturday afternoon I'll drive down to
the park just to watch 'em. It's amazing. A huge collection of costumed
nerds, hitting each other with big foam swords. The one-on-one battles are
funny enough, but the real action comes when they have team battles. They
scream and run at each other from opposite sides of the gazebo, weilding
double-edged nerf weapons. At first it looked like total chaos, but it
turns out the whole thing is regulated by rules.
It's a big, scary, nerdy community best viewed from a safe distance. Once
I got too close and a thirty-something barefooted larper sucked me right in
for a lecture on long nerf-swords vs. short nerf-swords (turns out a
skilled player with a short sword has an advantage over an average player
with a long sword, because it's more maneuverable) and a casual "here, try
it!" *BIFF BIFF BIFF* "Annnnnd you're dead!" I was just fascinated with
the blackness of this man's feet. He was like some sort of strange, nerdy
hippie. ____________________ < / hate > |

Andree, there is a huge differance between Role Players, Live Action Role
Players, Reinacters, and Nerds with nerf.
Role Playing is normally done around a table with very little in the way of
props or even physical activity. Live action role playing can be done in a
mall with most people not even noticing. Re inacting is done by people
with an interest in midevil times and normally with some skill with melee
weapons. Nerds with nerf however is quite comedic, and yes, go ahead and
laugh at them. ____________________ Sometimes I dream about dinosaurs shopping for cargo shorts at the Gap.

D&D 3.0/3.5, White Wolf's World of Darkness and Exalted, a version of
Shadow Run that uses the Talislanta magic system, a diced version of Age of
Heros, as well as a number of home-brewed games (d20 Starcraft, Viking Ice,
Evil Nazi Cyborgs and the Hunt for the +20 Acorn, Kobolds Ate My
Baby...)
I have a particular fondness for Mage, Wraith, Exalted, Amber, and, well,
D&D simply because I've been exposed to it alot and it was the first
system I learned. I guess I'm a sentimental gamer like that...o.o
As for why I like the other ones, I'm a caster-type player who loves coming
up with new powers, so the range of freedom to be creative in Mage and
Amber in particular draw me in, and I just like Wraith because I love all
things ghostly. As for Exalted, it has this whole "Epic WoD" feel to it,
and I enjoy actually being able to do crossover stuff that you're yelled at
not to do in the WoD.

My heart will always belong to ADnD 2nd Ed and ShadowRun. They were the
first i played and always have fond memories of.
The only WOD i've played are Vampire, Werewolf and Mage. Oh, and Orpheus,
which is pretty fucking groovy. I think you might like it, Alugarde.
I really dig Star Wars on the d20 system, but only if it's done right;
i.e.: games set during the rebellion era, otherwise everyone wants to play
a Jedi and almost no one plays them correctly.
I'm really into Hero, too. I love how versatile it is. ____________________ Fuck the Rest of You.

Kender: A little while back I glanced through the Orpheus core book. It
looked pretty interesting. Sadly, though, there are far too many books I
want than I have the resources to pay for, so Orpheus shall have to
wait.

Well... what settings do you like best? If for my part like FR(if it comes
to D&D) or Trinity: A new AEon...
@Andree: don't mix up those strange LARPERs with normal P&P-Players! ^^
if my gaming group would stand in a larger mass of people, i bet you
wouldn't know who they are...
they are the most normal, unnerdy bunch of gamers i have ever seen...

LARPERs are normal roleplayers... acutally... those not involved in
"boffer" larps are often better adjusted than TT gamers...(speaking as
someone who ahs run both, and worked in a game store for 10 years...
Hero 5th edition all the way... one set of rules governs everything,
universal, easy to use, infinteyl adaptible and works for any setting... ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.

Unfortunately, it nolonger exists...
And whoever wrote the novels needs shot...

My favorite RPG is a game called teacher where I pretend to be a highly
qualified yet underpaid proffesional that travels around the globe looking
for countries with unfriendly civilians to take advantage of me while I
work with screaming children 9 to 10 hours a day with few if any rewards.
The other players and I use a fairly easy to use OS that we like to call
"the brain". We also have to frequently reconfigure our settings, and for
group gaming we like to log onto "the bar". Generally after several drinks
it is possible to believe that we are not playing a game, but frequently we
have tried to stop kidding ourselves, and realize that we in fact are. We
have lost several gamers who let to look for the reset button, and alas,
have not yet returned.
Although this game is fairly simply to play, it does require a passport,
and iron stomach, and a high tolerance for pain. ____________________ It's like kegel exercises for your throat.~Monolycus |
