There have been few events of such utter and horrifying magnitude as to render me almost completely incapable of speech. Recently however, something has come up that has nearly knocked the blathering straight the fuck out of me. In fact after discovering this event, all I could really do was turn an alarming shade of cold white and mutter….holy shit.
I’m not sure it’s cosmically a good thing, and there are a few signs pointing at this event as a sign of the end times.

Merry Widow and I are havin’ a bebe’

An actual, flesh and blood critter…harbinger of doom, spawn of Dolo and Merry…I’m thinking of calling it Merry Dolidow. I remember watching Schiz muscle through her event like a sweet little bulldozer made out of iron and sheer unadulterated guts. I really admire her tenacity and strength. Particularly since right now I feel like all the fire is draining completely out of me. I can’t even formulate the emotions I’m experiencing right now, they blur in like a wet dog and mutate into a pot of burning astro-turf before I can figure where to put them.
I think I’m happy, but worried…really worried. Eh.

It isn’t something I can’t handle though, I’m fairly sure of it. But holy crap, I’m having a kid. I’m twenty-two, a drifter, a troublemaker and a certified madman…my child is doomed to inherit my sense of humor, or at least a reasonably twisted fascimily thereof. Hopefully it gets it’s momma’ smarts, cause god knows I can’t spare any.
I think the knews might have leaked out here and there, but I’m making the formal declaration here ma’self. Damn, I might as well declare war on the human race.
Babies are scary!
Fifteen sweaty rednecks with sawed-offs and an Oedipus complex are less intimidating.
I’m cutting my time in Seattle ridiculously short because of this new event, which seems like a total damn shame, because I was really starting to love it, but I gots ta’ build a house and all.
The hardest part about the whole thing so far is trying to think up a good name…for a boy I was figurin’ on William Grail, or maybe Zonk.
Girl-wise I always wanna go with something nifty like Violence, but I don’t know if that’ll click.
I kinda wish we could’ve just got a cat, but what the hell…
You can’t teach cats to sing naked in front of your in-laws.
Just when I was getting bored…>sigh< Good thing the kid’s moms hot huh?

I need names people! Names!

Unfortunately I have no idea how you might go about finding a Welsh course in America. Maybe there's something you can order from online? You do want to get the tapes though, cause otherwise learning to pronounce stuff is a nightmare.

I have a thing for languages, the quirkier the better. I've always LONGED to learn welsh. Even though, as far as I know, I'm not a bit welsh. But I have no clue how to find a welsh course. You know, with the little tapes (or CD's) that make you repeat phrases and words over and over so you get the accent. That would be soooo cool!

Whenever I read a book that has a welsh phrase in it, it always looks and sounds like music to me.

Yes, I think so. I like the welsh language which is quite strange for someone my age livijng in Wales. We're forced to learn the language, no choice about it, so most people end up hating it. Rather sad that. They're trying to keep the language alive, but the way they're going about it is putting people off.

I figured that book played around with pure fact a little. It was too life-like for a strict history, but it gave a really good idea of how life was for Henry V. No matter the origin, Gwenllian is still a lovely name!

Gruffydd and Maredudd would be anglicized as Griffith and Meredith, right? I just love the welsh double d's, l's and f's, and all the w's and y's sprinkled all over.

Gwenllian, who was the daughter of Owen Glendower, Prince of Wales

Owain Glyndwr was the Prince of Wales, and fought against the invading English. If he'd won we might still be our own country, as opposed to the little bit of land tacked onto England!

He had six sons and seven daughters. The eldest son was Gruffydd followed by Maredudd, Madog, Thomas, John and David. The daughters were Isabel, Elizabeth, Janet, Margaret, Catherine, Jane and Alice - I think these are English translations though, because I know that "Catherine" for one was actually called Catrin.

Gwenllian was the Princess of Wales, and was the daughter of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, though she didn't play much of a role in history as after her father was killed, King Edward condemned her to spent the rest of her life locked away - 54 years in fact.

Just a bit more name information!

Oh yeah, I just wanted to mention. When I was in the 10th grade, I was in Utah. there was a boy there named Mark Justice. He always said that if he ever had a little girl, he would name her Liberty Ann. My friends and I picked on him until he cried.

Well, if the baby is a girl, which seems to be a running consensus amongst the wise women in my world, her name will be Eva. It's a family name, and the person who had it is nice and dead, so there won't be any confusion on the holidays. Not only that, I have never run into another Eva in my life. (Having said that, I'll meet three today.) All we need is a good middle name. Something that rolls off the toungue as I'm yelling across the house. I really like the name Gwenllian.
Still not sure about a boy name, though. And I want to have a good one hanging around, just in case. If this kid takes after either parent, it's not going to do what it's supposed to do.

Yay yay yay! Hip hip hooray! Dolo & Merry are having a baby! Dolo & Merry are having a baby!!!!!

Here's to you, and hoping that your big event is the ONLY big event you have to deal with for the next few months!

I'm so psyched that I'm not the only procreating Shmenglian anymore (besides Meranda Jade and Rogue, but they got it over with before I came around, so that's not the same!)

And I am SO FLATTERED that I got mentioned in your announcement! But don't worry, you'll do fine. You've got plenty of iron and guts yourself, both of you. Unfortunatly, that means that your kid will have it too. Although it will stand the poor thing in good stead eventually, right around 1.5 or 2 years old, it can be a major pain in the ass! Hooray for strong-willed children! *sigh*

Names... hmmmm...

I really, REALLY wanted to name my kiddo Gwenllian, who was the daughter of Owen Glendower, Prince of Wales according to some book I read (I don't know if it was historical fiction or not), and it means new moon. Unfortunately, her daddy didn't go for it *boohoo*. Also Alys, which is the welsh spelling of Alice. I like welsh names. Aranea too, which is latin for spider, but much prettier. Actually, Alys Aranea together makes a very nice name, unusual, but with a traditional enough feel not to get picked on. And it would mean Spider of Light! How cool is that?

I always thought if I had a boy and girl set of twins they would be Zen and Zoe.

I like Peregrine for a boy. Means pilgrim. But I'm afraid that everyone would just think that I was stealing it from the Lord of the Ring movies, since that's Pippin's real name. But I wouldn't be. I'd be stealing it from the book! I was a LOR fan loooooong before short actors put on prosthetic feet and ears. So there!

It's only 5:45 in the morning right now, so I'm running out of inspiration. Anyway, I'm sure you'll come up with something awesome all by yourselves! I can't wait to hear it!

Dead-Cell: I agree that a baby names thread would seriously rock the casbah, especially if there are any other people out there expecting hellspawn of their own.

Merry Widow, Dolorosa, what do you think?

Squid I can beat your "Yogert" with name of people I have met like:
Orange Jello and Lemon Jello (brothers)
Taffrica (origins unknown)

Other names I have come across:
Will Powers (engraved on a tomb stone)
Ima Hogg and Ura Hogg (sisters of a wealthy family in the 1920's)

A kid with the name Tubal-Cain would probably never be arrested, but would have some bad days at recess. Lucifer is good to but you could shorten it to Luce (sounds like "loose" not Lucy). Should probably start a name thread.

Oh jesus, the last thing we need is a million little Dolorosas running wild like a fucking plague upon the masses. Here's hoping the wee one takes after Merry with a good dose of what we all enjoy about Dolo.

As for names, I agree to some extent with both Bettie AND Mono. Yoo SHOULD give a creative name to yor children but for christ's sake... well, I once knew a kid named "Yogurt." Need I say more?

Of course if yoo want to go with normal names, I suggest yoo be creative about them, for example, I know a guy who's first name is Arthur but his middle name is Pendragon.

Boy's names I've always liked were:
Valentino (which is what I'm probably going to name my first male wee one if I'm not carfeul)
Christ (yes, I'm serious, I LOVE the idea of having to be legally referred to as "Christ," or better yet, "Christ Our Lord and Savior" plus if the kid doesn't like it he can just call himself "Chris")
Osiris
Apophis
Damien (cheesy I know but I've always loved it)
Thutmose (could also be Thutmes, thutmeses, tahuti-mes, etc.)
Thoth
Hermes Trismegistus
Merlin
Odin
Lucifer (also cheesy, and I know that Merry will never go for it but still)
Hiram (which can be quite pretty depending on his last name)
Tubal-Cain
Power (seriously, my grandmother had a brother named Power)

Great girl's names include:
Rosetta
Nuit
Isis (seeing a pattern yet?)
Diana
Hecate
Luna
Lilith (also cheesy but come one, Lilith was fucking AWESOME)
Nehema
and one other that I will not state here because it's so beautiful I don't want anyone else to steal it

I think the worst thing I could do is see a word written on a test tube in the hospital, and decide to name my kid that, bringing the poor bastard into the world with the name syphilis. A friend of mine had an in-law who did that.
I'm thinking maybe going into the delivery with a small arsenal of names, and then settling on one when I can actually see my kid.

Heh heh, you guys are rock.

Lots of awesome ideas, and I'm seriously bouncing them around, when I grab the right one, I'll know it.
Consequently...sprog is a fucking awesome idea, and earlier I was thinking of Revolting Charles.

In reality though, the name Colt is still shiny, and today I was thinking about Zen...but, I'm pretty determined not to give the kid a silly name...nor give them an immenently forgettable name.

My roots say to give the kid a strong spirit name though...eh,

If only the hardest part about kids were the names ya?

haha...waaaaaaah!

just don't name your child Hollie,,,, they will never hear the end of it... I guarantee it... I've lived with that name all my life and only now at age 18 has it finally, for the most part, stopped being made fun of.
