Taxie Driver
1. It takes you into the world of someone who has basicly cut himself
off from the world around him and sinks deeper into insanity and his own
self rightousness, after making freinds with a 12 year old hooker he sports
a mohawk and goes on a murderous rampage.
2. Jodie Foster plays the 12 year old hooker at the age of 12 and it
proves that Psychos can be heros too.

*raising hand* I admit that I bought the soundtrack of bluegrass music. It
rocks.

The Big Lebowski
1. To be the Dude is to be so incredibly goth that you would never know it.
The Dude is the essance of cool, not from trying, but simply because it
falls into his lap that way. A "period" piece that becomes funnier every
time you watch it because you can hear Bush senior going on about Iraq.
And, if nothing else Maude Lebowski is just the end all be all of making
fun of those who think pretension really is a lifestyle.
2. An insane, quirky, comdey plot that manages to pull itself together in
the end and really work.
And since I'm doing Coen Films,
Oh Brother Where Art Thou
1. It's sneaky and stealthy goth because very few goths would ever, ever
admit to being interested at all in a campy movie that takes place in the
deep south. Those same would never admit that they also bought the fabulous
soundtrack of American Bluegrass and folk music. It's also very, very
stealthily based on a fairly goth as fuck classic, the Oddessy, but done in
a way that you might never have expected. Yet, it has so many gothic
elements to it, including the young guitarist who sells his soul to the
devil, the high and low bank robber, and the slapstick comedy that ensuses
during a hanging.
2. Dapper Dan, Redemption, and lots and lots of Hairnets.

100 Girls
1) Alot of discussion on the war of the sexes, and thier nueroses well
fitted into a plot about finding that special someone.
2) The main character dresses in drag several times, and bites off a guy's
tonuge.
The Deep End
1) One little accident turns into an extortian attempt.
2) A lession learned about covering someone else's mess.
Damn! I had another... oh well it will come to me later.

Immortal Beloved
(This movie is not about what the title might imply...it's about Beethoven
and his life.)
(1) Beethoven is a brilliant musician who suffered through an abusive
relationship with his father. He found escape in his music and in his times
alone. After his death, a mysterious letter is found that implies he had a
lady with whom he was secretly and eternally in love with...thus Immortal
Beloved. This movie tries to explain the possible relationship with this
mystery woman. The movie has unrequited love, a tortured existence, war,
death all surrounded with classical music.
(2) It shows a more secretive side of Beethoven that most people don't
think of...the part where he was a man and not just a great composer.

Glad you liked it - and told ya so - johnny depp just rocks
Nostradamus
1) It wasn't hookie-spookie, the special effects were only for the dream
scenes, but you still get an eerie feel from everything. Nostradamus is
goth as fuck.
2) Most movies like this are just exploiting legends. They usually just
make a huge spectacle of everything and make it all larger than life. This
was just a realistic account of what his life might have been like, and it
works even better this way.

Apocalypse Now
1. A film about the darkness inside every person. Based on the book Heart
of Darkness, put the moved to a Vietnam war setting.
2. Everybody goes completely insane in the end + directed by Francis Ford
Coppola

Inherit the Wind (1960)
1. Moody lighting, 128 minutes of arguing between an Agnostic and a
Christian. Awesome cinematography - especially for the 60's. In the real
life Scopes monkey trial (which the film is based on) William Jennings
Bryan died a week after winning the trial.
2. Will give you great quotes to use when arguing against creationism,
since most of the arguments for it haven't changed much in 75 years.

Fargo
1. This is what happens in the real world. Because it is a movie that lies
about being based on a true story to wrench the audience. Because it is
very plain, and very disturbing. Because it looks so carefully and
accurately into the need to accept what you have, and the inability of some
to do so.
2. It takes a lot of work to make Minesotta threating.

ok...not to be mean to be rude...but some of them weren't stealth...
BUT...
Drop Dead Gorgeou
1) a nihilistic twist on something not normally associated with a deadly
world view...
2) bring it on wasna even close

The Closet
Its a foreign film about homosexuality, condoms, relationships, and nervous
breakdowns. and really cute kittens.
The toast goes out the window, he isnt gay, she is actually a decent
person, it actually tricks you into looking, and her boobs are real.
Oh and its a comedy that is actually funny, translates well, and passes no
judgement on anyone other than the do-gooder PR man. and his only
punishment is that he has to eat the beets.

Sleuth
1) Micheal Caine wears a clown suit, there are more wind-ups than actors,
and everyone Dies. except the wind-ups.
2) The wind-ups arent alive, there are no monsters, and you cant love or
hate any character. Except the sailor.
And Arth, that was sooo impressive. I have been laughing about the Spock as
God idea for days now.

8 Mile
1 Most of the movie takes place at night
2 Unlike mos tmovies about rappers, the main character isn't black
The Neon Bible
1 The way it is shot, as though you are watching a play, makes the viewer
extremely uncomfortable
2 Unlike most dramas, you don't know why you continue to watch it becasue
you have no expectations for the characters

I think only Arthegarn could make all of the star trek movies Goth
Drop Dead Fred
1) Because everyone needs friends that aren't very real. Because it uses
symbolism that is totally believable and works with dream analysis and
normal psychology.
2) Other Kids movies don't adress adult themes in such a subtle but
accurate way.
Dead Man
1) Johnny Depp is mostly dead for the whole movie. The indian's name is
Nobody. It's black and white, but doesn't seem dated in the least. The
whole movie is dripping with irony.
2) Nobody but Johnny Depp could play a mostly dead man that well. It's an
obvious goth movie title (like ghostworld), but (like ghostworld) the movie
isn't an obviously goth movie - it's about cowboys and indians It's stealthy
because you have to read between the lines to see how goth it is.

The Secret of Nimh:
1 ~ An animated movie about mice with some amazing artwork and cool names,
Nicodemus. It blends mysticism and science in a unique way.
2 ~ Under the cute exterior lies a message of animal rights and genetic
experimentation gone wrong that your local PETA representative would be
eager to explain in detail.
Hamlet, the Kenneth Branagh version:
1 ~ It's Shakespeare done without any alterations. Billy Crystal is a
grave digger.
2 ~ No movie that I've seen about a Shakespearean tagedy have been so true
to form. Titus was an amazing movie, but see other comments below for
elaboration...
Memento is good, Fight club is great, Ghostworld is *strange,* Princess
Bride is lord and master... Titus was an amazing rendition of Shakespeare,
but it was quite strange, what with the little kid being in the scenes
witnessing such things, and the cars... Since I have yet to study Titus in
depth, I will not say anymore lest my tongue betray me. By the way, the
director of Memento has another movie called The Following I think, and I
can't seem to find a copy of it. Perhaps it is as good as Memento.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture:
1) Kirk and company stand in awe (half the movie) minimized by the sheer
size of V-ger, thus realizing their mortality and how close they are to
Death. Ilia dies and comes back as a soul-less android who then remembers
how falling in love was.
2) Spock dresses in black and talks about death
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn:
1) Kahn cites Shakespeare, Chekov cites Tolstoi, Spock cites Dickens...
everybody reads and is cool. David Marcus plays God with bad consequences
and so we are all reminded of our mortality and how close we are to
Death.
2) Spock dies.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
1) A bunch of old friends gather together to search for the body of their
lost friend and then engage in some dark ritual nobody ever heard about to
revive him. When he is revived her remembers almost nothing and so we exit
the cinema wondering about the nature of life and death.
2) Spock comes back to life. The Enterprise dies.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home:
1) Mankind is doomed due to their own stupidity. Anything more gothic than
that?. There is a punk that hates everyone, a dinner in a bad restaurant
with bad beer because money doesn't allow for more, Kirk is a man with an
idea of about how to save the world that he can't tell anyone without being
ridiculed, the entire crew are looked down by the way they dress. In the
end you exit the cinema wondering about how self-important mankind is,
though being reminded of your own mortality and how close you are to
Death.
2) Spock gives a show about how to dress weird and even then look
dignified. The enterprise is reborn and now it's either a Phoenix or a
zombie (as half the crew are beginning to look like...)
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier:
1) The movie is about the existance of God, and the following of one's
beliefs just to find they were wrong all of the time and you have been
manipulated by foreign usage of your dearest religious concepts. Is there
anything more gothic than Sybock's soul?. There is also a cool klingon
female in leathers (with nice legs) who could snap your spine. Kirk defies
God on his face. Everybody dresses really weird. In the end you go ot
wondering about the nature of God as related to man-made deities and
thinking of your own mortality and how close you are to Death
2) God itself comes around and he turns out to be evil. And most of all,
God turns out NOT to be Spock
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
1) Chang, a 23rd century Dracula. Everyone cites Shakespeare all the time.
Lots of blood. The king is killed by his treacherous black knight and a
helpless princess (dressed in black leather and high-heel boots) inherits
the throne. The black knight sees he can't control the princess so decides
to kill her and rule him instead. Death, murder, pain, trason, poetry and
kinky transexual action (Kirk kisses a... well...)
2) Spock talks about HIS DEATH while having a drink all dressed in black,
under the candlelight, with a woman much younger than him and new to a
Scene in which she only wants to be as über as Spock is, without
understanding that only Spock is Cool, and he didn't try to be.
Next time the TMG movies

1) A supposedly cute story about rabbits that turns out to be a political
manifesto.
