I was researching Wicca on the web and out of the blue, this article happens to be on the results:

http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news0702/wiccans.html

My thoughts on this site is this: How ignorant can someone be? Or better yet, how bored can someone be? A more polite set of questions for asking how hypocritical this person is.

Nothing against faiths, spirituality, and/or religion in general, but as far as this individual goes, this is doing a several things:

-Making me tempted to bash King James over some Bible thumper's head.
-Tempting me to find this guy and smack him for disturbing the peace.
-Tempting me to find this guy and paint a giant nazi symbol on his house.
-In irony, chuckle politely from the mere amusement of someone's desire to be totally ignorant...but at the same time twitch in paranoia.
-Makes me continue to wonder how hateful people can be. :/

Everyone's going to have their thoughts, my over all conclusion about this fanatical document is......

According to this site, I'm the anti-Christ. *snickers*

Abb you make as if to sound that you don't have tea and cookies up your's just BEGGING for company!

I, personally, think schitz's ass would be a preferable place to other's asses. She'd at least have the tact to put down a throw rug and make you wipe your feet on the way in.

Thanks, Domkitten.

And Pale-face, if your brain is truly going to explode, then maybe you better keep away. I'm afraid that the idea of witnessing someone's gray matter splatter about rather turns my stomach. It's one of my little quirks.

I don't know what you mean by "them", but to me, it means my mother, my father, my brother, my aunts, my uncles, my cousins, my grandparents, my childhood friends, my mentors, my teachers, and at one time, even me. And I know, from experience, how "they" have tested the stories and concepts, and have had so many of these "truths" fall flat beneath them, and have fallen with them, and how "they" have ignored their experiences, and still trust the same way, and find fault with themselves instead of their beliefs. I'm not judging, I know from experience that it does not help them sleep at night, and I'm not about to just shrug my shoulders and say "so be it."

I am tired of watching my otherwise intelligent friends and family drift away from me, because fear keeps them wallowing in the same old pit of futility, as I move on and grow. I am tired of being seen as someone who is "falling away" instead of growing and developing. And there's nothing I can do about it, except hurt, because "they" all have their ears closed fast against the slightest hint of anything else.

Everything, EVERYTHING they claim their way of life gives them, I have found without those weights and ties, and more on top of it. More peace, more love, more strength, more courage, more joy. I am tired of seeing the people who love me get DISAPPOINTED, inside, when I am happy, because that contradicts the expectations they have been fed. And if not disappointed, they just plain don't believe it. After all, how could I be happy and at peace without being "right with God?"

I am saddened, angry, hurt, and frustrated. All the more because I know it is their decision, not mine, and there's nothing I can do to open minds whose owners prefer to keep them closed. But I will never, NEVER just say "so be it," or pretend that they're happy that way, when I know they aren't. I can't fight it, but I refuse to like it.

What is so horrible about the words "I don't know"? -schizo

Nothing. They are probably some of the most important combination of words we as humans have put together. But in terms of religious beliefs, the term I don’t know would have never come into their heads because to them the stories and concepts in the bible have been tested tried and true. It’s not to us to judge weather its wrong or not. If it helps them sleep at night, then so be it.

I think often it is a fear of the words "I don't know." Those three little words that seem to strike such fear into so many intelligent (and otherwise) people's hearts. The people that I know, they "know" that the Bible is true, and they "know" that their church founder was a prophet straight from God, and if you ask how they know, they either shut up, or evade, or shout "faith, faith!" If they could just admit "I don't know, but this is what I think, and how I want to live my life," then perhaps we could interact more pleasantly, but they can't. They are so afraid of not knowing, that they convince themselves that they DO know, and then because they know these things so firmly, they start judging me because I'm so mistaken as to set those things aside.

What is so horrible about the words "I don't know"? I would rather not know something than be convinced of something that might not be true. If I admit I don't know something, then maybe I can find it out somehow, someday. But if I'm so convinced that 2+2+8, then how can I be shown differently?

I think it is a necessary part of basic intelligence and confidence to be able to distinguish between what you know and what you don't know. It is necessary to test your theories and thoughts to see if they actually hold water. It is necessary to try to prove your theories wrong. After all, if your theory is actually correct, it will stand up to rigorous testing, and you have nothing to fear! In fact, all you have to fear is being proven wrong, and what's wrong with that? And who knows? You might get proven right, and then you can be fully confident in your theory without resorting to evasions. Anyway, it's better to hold a theory and get it proved wrong then to hold it, and never test it, and live your life based on a fallacy.

I believe in a hearty attitude of "I don't know, but I do think, and I'm sure as hell going to find out if I can."

These are some excellent points, Schizo, Ironboots and Monolycus. I agree with you in that it is a travesty when a briliant individual shuts down there mind. This is a dilemna I have pondered many times. One of the theories I have concluded after many discussions. Is one that you have already thought upon.
I think that after a certain point of questioning something that cannot be proven absolutely true or absolutely false through conventional means, an individual must make one of three decisions. Either they must decide that they will believe in nothing because if there is not absolute truth proving that that something exists the only logic they can see is that it does not exist. The second option one may decide to accept, as Schizo put it, is to have "blind faith" in what they have been taught no matter how ludicris it may sound to someone who has been taught something different.
The third option is the logical one to me and that is that the individual decides to realize that life is split into the tangable and the intangable, the concrete and the abstract, and the objective facts vs. the subjective truth. When this is realized one then decides to except a level of the abstract and subjective to enable them to have hopes and dreams that may not seem realistic in a logical world. This may be achieved by spiritual belief or by subscribing to a certain religion. But the thing that separates this individual from the fundamentalist jurkoff, is that they decide to base there anger, judgement and condemnation of others upon absolute objective fact that can be backed up through real evidence, (ie. a court of law, scientific experimentation, etc.) as apposed to basing there judgement or anger upon subjective based beliefs that are backed by a book or doctrine that is true because people have such strong faith that it is and because it cannot be proven false.
Then they use there religious or spiritual beliefs as personal foundations to strengthen the abstract and intangable elements of their life. Like love, happiness, belief in an after life and things of that nature that can help live a less stressful life.

You hit the nail right on the head, Ironboots. I know plenty of people do it, but WHY!?

And I still haven't come across quite the same dichotomy, to quite the same degree, in any other place. I'm talking Ivy League and Oxford level intelligence, and not just intelligence, but just plain good sense, turned off in a heartbeat to swallow the most outrageous propaganda, without even an inkling that they're doing it. And people who will take the harshest correction with the utmost humility suddenly getting vehemently defensive the moment you so much as hint that such whole-hearted embracing of such extreme dogmas might not be the wisest thing. I know everyone has their blind spots, but they make their blind spot their greatest pride. Of course, they call it "blind faith", but it's the same thing, isn't it?

But yes, that dichotomy exists everywhere you turn, religion or no religion. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that everyone does it to some small degree.

I just think people need to realize that religious fanatics come in all shapes and sizes. They aren't all back-woods pea-brained hicks. Even the brilliant, talented, well-traveled and erudite can turn off their minds, along with the dim and inexperienced. It's sad, but true.

I suppose its one of those "no matter how many times I see it, I still can't understand why they do it" kinda things, Mono...

I see the same thing in loggers who love the woods, hate clearcuts, but keep on doing what they do, just because their father was a logger, and their father's father was a logger, and their father's father's father was a logger. There are other jobs for these people, other industries, as well as alternatives to wood products, but they just don't get it.

Umm... Schiz... you're not new around here or anything. The otherwise-intelligent-turning-off-their-higher-critical-faculties thing is going on around you all the time... and it's not always about religion. Go through the backlogs a bit, sweetie. This should not come as a surprise.

You know, it's strange. The people I was raised among prided themselves on their intelligence and education, even if it was self-education. It seemed like everyone knew multiple languages, many of them dead, or was a debate champion, or could play some musical instrument, often several. Their grade-school children knew more about history and geography than many college graduates, and I credit them largely with the fact that I am not your run-of-the-mill no-college ignoramus.

And yet, when it came down to deciphering right and wrong, these brilliant, highly-educated people seemed to just shut their brains clean off. Not just blindly believing the Bible, which is bad enough (if you're going to put trust in a book, do it with your eyes open, please!), but they would, with robot-like precision, interpret the Bible exactly the way their long-dead but still seemingly powerful church founder did.

Eventually, I had to get out of there. My mind had been torturing me for years with the dismal fact that I really didn't agree with what I was being fed. It took some time, though, to break through the years of conditioning and training that kept me obediently doing things I didn't truly believe in. I'm only now feeling that I'm really starting to get free from the programming.

And I still can't figure out how such amazingly smart and insightful people can just turn off their minds without feeling the same mental check that I did. Unless they do - come to think of it, they probably do - but are afraid of the consequences of following through with what they really think. You've got to remember - the stakes are pretty high. Burning forever is pretty damn serious.

I must say schizo those cabbage patch dolls are iffy characters. but never the less I cant quite wrap my mind around how Christianity has been such a large say in what people do. They are simply to ignorant to have that kind of power. Not to say I don’t believe in there studies, I’m a bourn and raised Christian. I’ve been to Italy to see the Vatican and many other famous churches of the ages. But their beliefs are at times forced upon people, and that’s just simply not right. o well, thats my 2 cents.

Don't worry punkwriter, the place is a big spoof. And a good one at that! I don't have any solid proof, but I'm an ex-fanatic myself (thank the dear Lord for saving me from a life of terminal self-righteousness), so I know how they work, and more importantly, how they don't work. And Christian fanatics don't brag about how they cast the first stone (see one of the links on the side of the Landover page.) Not to mention sell Fornicator brand WhatWouldJesusDo thongs.

The scary thing is, the spoof isn't so far off from reality. When I was a child, I was not allowed to have a Cabbage Patch doll, because supposedly they had demonic ties or something half-cracked like that. I guess there was some story going around about some poor kid who developed an eating disorder around the time she was given a Cabbage Patch Kid, and it turned out her doll was named after some Indian goddess of starvation or something. Anyway, it was enough to cause panic in the ranks, and as a result, I was the only girl in my class without a real, live, true blue Cabbage Patch Kid doll. I'm still dealing with the scars. *snff snff* Damn fanatics...

Holy shit man. That is fuckin funny. OK I am new on this site so none of you know me, but my friend Andree told me about it so here I am.
So, dead-cell, what is the story of Landover Baptist Church. I looked for something that would explain if it is a fake or not but all I found was the history they had posted. I didn't have enough time to check it out. I would automatically think it was a joke if it were not for all of the psycho fundamentalist christians I know personally. Living in Oklahoma you have the unfortunate opportunity of running into a lot of people who have completely lost it when it comes to common sense mixing with spirituality. In other words they have no common sense to speak of.
Anyway I wasn't meaning to go on a rant I was just wondering if this site is for real or if it is a sploof.
