Do you think it is possible to receive a *vibe* from someone not physically
in your presence? like photos or letters? Is vibe the right terminology?
Have you ever looked at a photo of a stranger and had an overwhelming
(feeling) run through you? It has nothing to do with their appearance.
Itīs just (a feeling or knowledge). I have definitely experienced this
phenomena before.
I guess everyone projects something on a different level subconsciously.

Schizo, that's a perfect lay out right there. If that makes sense. There
are so many aspects we can relate these "vibes" to that we get everyday,
and you just named (I think) all of them.
I was very intrigued to read about your encounter with the Creeps. It's
great that you can actually say that you might of picked up simply on
facial expressions and such, because I think thats what the majority of us
do. The internet is a different story though, again, like you said,
inconsistancies are good red flags, but sometimes theres those people who
you just completely steer clear from.
Also, (my favourite part), the psychic stuff. Now, I've had a psychic
reading once in my life, and I'm underage, so it was tricky to get. When I
did get it though, I was amazed at what I'd heard. It could of easily been
passed off as someone trying to guess a typical teenage life and throwing
in a few twists and turns, but I actually got some rather fascinating
things from this woman. She went as far as to tell me about "odd" feelings
I get, being involved with someone at a private school (which at the time,
was true), and other little things.
There's a lot of websites that'll give you online readings, I think you
should try one. I'd be really interested in hearing your opinion of what
was said afterwards. I'll try to find the same site I was on, as it was one
of the easier ones to get a reading done.
Ah, I love reading such brain sparking things in the morning. I feel
lively.

I don't know about past life memories and stuff like that, but I do know I
suck at luck and just plain predictions of the type of picking out cards
and stuff like that. But I DID pick out the three worst creeps at work the
first day, and was downright rude to them from the beginning. Found out
later that, if all had been properly reported, all three of them should
have been fired for sexual harrassment several times over, and rudeness was
really the only way to keep them keeping their distance. I think it's my
subconscious picking up on little things like facial expressions and
mannerisms that are too subtle for my conscious to notice, but that give me
a little warning of what to expect from a person.
It's a little trickier online, but there are still things to pick up on.
Slight inconsistencies or contradictions, either in word or projected
personality, that the subconsious picks up on before the conscious does.
They help us identify what sort of person is really sitting at the
keyboard. Or on a more positive note, little indications that a person is
really on your own wavelength, before you can really pinpoint why they
are.
Then you get into that whole pychic stuff, where you can tell all about
someone just by coming in contact with some personal belonging or
something. I wouldn't know about that, having never done it myself, or
seen anyone else do it. Although I have had episodes of things that could
possibly be labelled psychic, or at least I certainly can't explain how I
knew them, it's not so cut-and-dried as that, and I can't seem to control
when it happens. I certainly don't know why it happens. Someone with more
experience in this area would be better able to discuss this ability.
But mere intuition? Perfectly natural, and a built-in defense mechanism we
all use everyday. We would do well to trust it more often. While initial
intuitive impressions can be proven wrong (for example, getting a "bad
vibe" about someone, but later finding out you like them alot) they should
still be taken into account. These impressions are based on something
real, and can keep you out of danger sometimes. They are meant to give you
something to go on until you get more solid information about someone. And
I think you will find, if you trust your gut instinct, that the "facts"
will come along later to back you up more often than not.

I like this topic, everyone has something to say. Such is life.
On the idea of "vibes" though, I think it really is our higher senses
kicking in. If you even want to call them that.
I'm sure almost all of us have encountered such vibes. Once fully opened
up, discussions like this lead into the discussion of past lives, and
people you've known in past lives. (if you believe in that sort of
thing)
My thoughts aren't very organized here...
I believe its one part memory and association (relating emotions to things
you've seen before, whether you're doing is subconsciously or consciously),
and intuition/spiritual memories (Hunches/past life memories
resurfacing).
Very tricky subject, these vibes.
Has anyone ever tried to practice their intuition skills? Whether it be
the "Card picking game" where you see how many times you can pick the
correct card in a group of 4, or simply going on hunches you get from the
"vibes" of photos, etc?
I propose we all give some form of testing intuition a try.. if you get
a vibe about something, let everyone know. If you try the card game, let
everyone know how you do. I for one, would be interested. If you need more
details on the "card game" just PM me.. I'd be glad to explain.. though..
its probably straight forward. I'm sleepy, and rambling. My apologies.

no. when you meet your people, you know it. If you meet them face to face
or modem to modem doesnt matter. that sense that you know them is just
that, the sense that you know them. some people you know better than
others, some people know you better than other people know you. that might
acount for the difference that you feel between one of your people that you
have met face to face and one that you havent yet met face to face.

You're damn straight it can! It happened to me once. I think it comes from
a past memory from a previous time if you happen to know the person.

The vibe you describe could be aura related as the image would of captured
the current aura of the subject. This could explain the feelings you picked
up on.

Okay, let's see if I can make this question clear...I'm having a little
trouble, articulating exactly what I mean, but here goes:
I have a really strong bond with a guy I dated years ago. We don't see
each other often, but the connection is still really strong. Recently, I
have met some other people to whom I feel a strong pull, although I have
not met them. Is it normal for the bond (or vibe) between two people who
have been in each other's presence before to be stronger than the vibe
between two people who have never met?

Distance and presence are irrelevant. Going back to a comment I made on
another forum... the nature of a quantum universe is that it is not really
that big... It is precisely one universe in size...
also... the connection can be passed through an object... it even has a
name... Psychometry.
from a scientific standpoint - let's take a look at somethings
1) computers can be effected by electromagnetic emissions. The effect is
called "magnetic induction."
2) Machines built on similar architectures will react in similar ways when
exposed to specific stimulus.
3) The more complex the machine, the easier it is effect.
4) Now... those that demonstrate a high degree of psychic ability also show
an advanced level of alpha wave emissions.
5) the human mind is a "giant computer." the synapses in the brain act in
much the same way that the switches in a computer do... honestly being the
most complex computer in existence.
6) the human mind is incredibly sensitive to electromagnetic emissions,
sound waves, colors and alpha emissions...
Now... is it such a strech that we could learn to interpret those
emissions?
It is also a proven fact that any magnetic field will leave an impression
on any ambient magnetic feld (hence the reason that a magnet will screw up
your tv screen)... the human body (as explained in the matrix) puts off a
lot of energy... We exist in an mbient magnetic field (the earth's) ecept
for those at the 7 bussard points of magnetic nullification... take the six
points above and add this piece of information and the ability of
psychometry is not that far of a stretch.

I enjoy hearing all of your theories. here is one of mine.
I'ts based off Devin's theory of using a photo to focus in on a particular
vibe.
Perhaps we are all connected (not the internet) but our minds or our souls
if you will are all connected like a mass entaglement of spider webs. I
believe the reason you can focus vibes from a photo or even feel them in
the first place is because of the existence of this invisble feild that
connects us.
I have noticed that the happier times of my life were surrounded by my
friends and our social structer.
When i was issolated from that social structer i felt that life was empty
and there was no reason to live.

I have to agree with Devin about the idea that a picture is a good way of
focusing our perceptions. Even with a total stranger, like in a newspaper
or on TV. We are all more perceptive than just the regularly accepted five
we learn in grade school. I think one part of the definition of vibe could
be something very similar to our 'smells good' response to a total stranger
we meet at a party or on the street. I'm sure everyone knows what I mean,
that sudden and instantaneous to dispence with the niceties and make like
monkees right there on the spot. Usually this is experienced by both
parties, but sadly for most it's not something one discusses in 'polite
society' otherwise we'de all get alot more sex with utter strangers who we
may or may not have any reason to talk to ever again.
Adding to the idea that it is pure conceit to think only humans or living
things give off a vibe, and building on the compatability analogy, I would
say there a number of times I've bought this shampoo over that identical
shampoo purely on a feeling or vibe. I've based a number of opinions aout
inanimate objects more on intuition than a learned decision. And more often
than not I've found the vibe steered me well. The first instance that comes
to mind is actually some kind of body soap. Two identical vanilla scent
body washes of equal price...I bought the one that gave offthe right vibe
and liked it immensly. The next time I needed body soap I went back and the
other brand was on sale so I threw intuition to the wind and bought it. I
smelled funny and made my skin feel dry...
I think it's a culmination of the senses we acknowledge and the ones we
don't all ganging up to give us the big picture that really creates a
strong vibe. A 'feeling' for something that tells more than the label or,
in the case of people, more than just their skin and clothes.

Well I'd rather say a brainstorm of memories evoked from what you are
looking at, or to what you are close, whether it is a photograph, a letter,
a mirror, a place or just the thin air.
For instance, it happened to me many times, when looking at a picture of a
complete stranger I felt something like electricity running down my spine.
When later I thought of it I realized that his/her face, or his/her eyes or
the whole picture of the person brought a very strong memory to my mind
that made me feel like that.
It is true though that are circumstances under which a great amount of
energy is trapped in objects, places or even people and when someone is
trying to possess them, willingly or unwillingly this energy is being
released as a matter of defence.
Everyone and everything is connected in some way with someone else or
something else, and the "vibe", "aura" or whatever is called is the means
for us to figure it out!

Yes, it is possible to feel a vibe through let's say, a computer. I know
that I have.

Maybe the term "aura" would be more appropriate. Personally I have
experienced that a lot of times. I believe that everyone transmits energy
and this energy leaves trails from everywhere he/she passes and onto
everything he/she touches.

Vibes come from everything and anything. Mirrors, rings and rooms in houses
are always good for vibes. Emotions for some reason get trapped in things.
A good example of this is Anger, people who can pick up on psychic energy
will know this. It gets stuck in things, the walls the furniture
everything. Occultist believe that if spirits manifest in rooms like this
they can absorb the anger energy and 'feed' off it.
If a murderer, excuse the example, wears a ring while killing somebody the
ring will absorb the hate energies and if others wear the ring it can lead
to complete changes in their personality.
If anyone out there knows somebody has died in their home, and more
specifically, know where they died you can feel the vibe in the area. It'll
usually feel cold.
As for feeling vibes from a photo it is possible that maybe you knew that
person in a former life! or maybe you were that person. Psychic empathy is
also another way in which you could have felt something toward or for them.
Maybe they died in pain or lead a sad life. Maybe it was the complete
opposite.

Iīve definitely gotten good/bad/weird vibes from inanimate objects all the
time - houses, places, personal possessions, etc. As Iīve said before,
everything and everyone is constantly vibrating at certain frequencies and
maybe thatīs why some people/places/things are found to be harmonious
(literally) to some but not others. And why music and sound can give you
goosebumps. It also might begin to explain prescience (ESP) if you think
of feedback in music or in waves - the "future" might feedback on the now
more than we know, and some are more aware of it.
We are all music. In the beginning was the word (or in Hinduism and
Buddhism the syllable OM) - a thing many religions touch upon. And beyond
that, we are all energy, or vibe.

I like Devinīs theory that the picture/object/whatever just helps you focus
on that persons vibe.. and i donīt think physical location is anything that
necessarily-not saying it necessarily doesnīt-affects it..i donīt think
physical locations are anything that exist in the-aah.. what shall i call
it? "vibe universe"? ;-) i dunno, you get my point(i hope).. or maybe you
donīt and youīll be thinking "what a dumbass", hehe.. but thatīs ok
too..

I think that there was another topic about this, you should go check that
one out. Donīt know what its caled, but it might be worth a little
searching. BTW, vibes are way real, and you can get them from a picture,
from a person on the other side of the earth, while you are sleeping (when
you are more receptive) or at work, or on the can, depending on how strong
you are (mentally) at recieving them, and how well you can identify one.

i donīt think vibes are restricted to living things..music, for instance,
can give vibes..or maybe thatīs the vibe of the artist that youīre
receiving? iīm not sure about what i believe about this..iīll have to
ponder a bit but iīm definitely
sure that you can receive vibes from listening to music..something i
experience all the time..
