Alright, no offense to people who live in California, but what the fuck' is the use of outlawing rubber cement for those under 18 years old? In my area, they've pretty much done that - even though it is part of the school supplies most of the time. Yes there's been cases of people sniffing it and glue, but my gawd. I guess only people 18 and over are allowed to sniff it.

Note: My mom reacted to the situation basically by yelling, "I'm over 18 and I promise that I'll go home and sniff it right away!!" She was kidding, of course, but I thought that it was funny, heh.

I wonder... would Freddy Cougar and Edward Scissorhands be banned just because they have scary-looking hand implements?

Another reason chucks are probably banned is that they are embarrasing in the hands of idiots. I mean, if you had all these people wavin' around sticks and knocking themselves in the heads, you'd:
1. Lower the image of California as a smart state.
2. Cause a dramatic increase in the number of emergency room visits, costing hospitals millions.

As for the sword thing, I would have thought those things were banned in public... I'm certainly not going to go out and wave a sword in the park...

Eh, I don't care... I'll take a sword to chucks any day (partly because I am one of those aformentioned idiots)

It's simple squiddo my boy, chucks are scary, swords aren't.

That's why butterfly knives are most automatic knives are also illegal. They scare people.

That's the same reason that the assualt weapons ban disallows weapons that look like military rifels. They are scary....

here's one of my favorites:

While living in San Francisco I noticed that people would practice Tai Chi everywhere; in the park, on the street corner, at a bus stop; and many of these times they would practice using swords (which is fairly common to do, I had just never seen it done in public quite that way).

At one point the police confiscated 2 pairs of my chucks. Why? Because in the state of california it's a fucking FELONY to even own a pair of chuck even if they never leave yor home!

So, quick recap: Waving around a sword indiscriminatly in public = OK ... 2 sticks connected by a chain = FELONY!

It isn't completely a bad deal, I guess. Just kind of sucks for I was able to drive in my previous homestate and now I'm underaged, lol.

Yes, actually, minors have been incredibly irresponsible. For a fun evening at home, look up accidents due to illegal drag racing. Then take a gander at the deaths due to those accidents. It's not cool, a young lady I should have graduated with was killed a month before graduation because of two other idiots doing over 100mph down a road.
While you can get your license in CA at 16, there are several restrictions based on time behind the wheel. The accident rate in underaged drivers has been going up. If you want proof, go drive through a highschool when classes let out.
It really isn't that big of a deal to wait until after your 18. I did. Frankly, I don't think I could have handled it if I had started driving at a younger age.

Oh fuck@the lawsuit issue.

There's so many insane lawsuits out there that it isn't funny. That's even worse than the lady sueing McDonald's for spilling their coffee on her lap. Common sense seems to have little place in the United States anymore. I'm sorry to hear about your friend Nicolas. I hope that he makes it through the ridiculous case.

I also find it unfortunate that I cannot get a job until I'm 18 and that I'll not be having a driver's license for California due to the fact that I'm not 18 yet. Are minors being that irresponsible (dropping out of school due to having a car, etc)? Geez. That means me spending another year relying on my parents. In Kansas, I'd be able to keep my license and get a job to start living on my own - I know a lot of you guys don't like that place, but at least there's not as many 'legal issues' to deal with there, hehe. >.< I'm really not sure where they're going with the 18 age thing.

Ditto on the lighters / lighter fluid thing here. My ex bought a zippo, wicks and flints from a store in the market, but they wouldn't sell him the zippo fuel because he wasn't eighteen! You can smoke at sixteen, so apparently it's fine for you to kill yourself with cancer, just not by zippo fuel. Arses.

If you wanna see a good "huffing" movie (there are several other main issues/threads throughout the film like the pro-choice/pro-life movement) go rent "Citizen Ruth". It's fucking hillarious.

I have a legal issue (red light begings ammiting from eyes)

my friend is going to be SUED because he was RAN OVER BY A CAR!
We were biking home from blockbuster with Silent Hill 3... which we were going to play all night and get scared shitless. Anyway, we're at the top of the hill, waiting for the light, Ian starts to cross, and out of nowhere this red car zooms by and nails him. He goes flying over the hood (he was at least 6 feet of the ground), flips several times, and lands on the roof. The lady stops, police, ambulance come, etc.

Ian manages to walk away with only a bruised tailbone (we have no clue how the fuck he got away with only that, but I guess it's not his time yet).

The woman wants him to pay for body repairs and to replace the window that he shattered WHEN SHE RAN HIM OVER WHILE SPEEDING TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE YELLOW LIGHT. AND SHE MIGHT WIN. While I'm very happy that my best friend isn't dead, I think it's ridicolous that he's being fined FOR LIVING.

Hehehehe! Reminds me of a time my dad was on a trip for work, and he had another guy from work with him. They were driving up to Tallahasse (I think), and they had to stop at a motel for the night. My dad went to the bathroom, came back out, and there sits the guy with silver spray paint all over his nose.

I say if people want to fuck themselves up with spray paint, it's no skin off my nose, just off theirs! DARWIN!

"Then she sneezed blue"

Holy shit. That is too funny. I remember this guy I worked with actually got arrested because he was enough of an idiot to be huffing spray paint out of a sock (Make ball with sock, spray paint, snort paint) at work. I'm still not entirely sure what they arrested him for since stupidity isn't quite illegal yet, but it was another one of those circumstances that would have been funny if it hadn't been hilarious. They startled him mid huff and he sneezed or something, but when he looked up to ask what was wrong his nose was painted rustoleum red.

I remember having this conversation with a girl once, she sat there swearing up and down that she wasn't a huffer, never had been. Then she sneezed blue. It would have been funny if it weren't so freaking hilarious.

And don't you just love the stories you hear about people who huffed and killed themselves? At my school some girl did that, and she was a known stoner, and yet, she was regaled as a role model and icon of the school's excellence at her funeral... I swear... I don't think there's any law in GA about buying that stuff if you're under 18 though. Note to all huffers ont eh site: you mgiht be able to get some stuff without any hassle int he South.

Yeah, spray paint isn't allowed to kids because some jackasses can't seem to tell the difference between a canvas and a person's private property. If you've ever been to an urban area, you know what I'm talking about... I mean, in LA the tagging's VERY bad in parts, with taggers running out of room and having to tag over the graffiti.

!8 to join the military, if you have parental consent, you can go younger. 21 to legally own a firearm, and you have to go through a series of classes first.
Pellet guns are under new scrutiny, ever since a bunch of idiot rich kids almost beat some elderly immigrant workers to death, after chasing them around with the BB guns.
Kids under 18 can buy lighters and such if they have an adult with them. My brother is 16, and I went with him when he bought his last zippo, and I go when he needs fuel or flints or whatnot.
Spray paint is also unvailable to the kiddies. I remember we had a problem with that in highschool drama when we ran out of the stuff. A couple of kids ran out to get some so we could finish up a set, and they couldn't buy it, being under 18.

I think they can join the military right after high school, so problaby around 16? I think it's a free for all when it comes to BB guns too.

Ah, I love you, people. Just out of curiosity: I see your government does it best to prevent you from killing yourselves until you're 18... can you kill others? Since when can you own a gun?

You can all thank your less responsible counterparts (ie: the general idiot teenage population) for that. In my state you can buy refillable lighters at any age, you just can't buy lighter fluid until you're 18. I'm not sure about the glue bit, and yes it's stupid, but I think they're trying to prevent future huffers, but are going to fail miserably because there are a zillion things out there that people can sniff to fry their brains.

I do remember making sets for a play in highschool in the theater and our drama teacher was kind of a moron, and we were using big cans of rubber cement which he left open, yet did not leave the doors open nor bring fans, and after about an hour he got up for a break and fell right off the stage. Right about then someone walked into the auditorium and was like "jeezus you guys huffing that shit open a door!"
