You monsterous music stealing bastards. Well let it be known that the RIAA
will no longer stand for you dogged thievery. No, we shall hunt down every
last one of you, we shall burst into your home and confiscate your
computer. We shall make you pay pay pay.

This might sound mean, but I am a little happy to hear that someone has a
worse day than me. other than that, they are perhaps overreacting a
little..?

The... FUCK?!?!
The RIAA? Never heard of them, but since I have about, oh, 700 shared files
on my computer, I might get in trouble. That poor girl! It s a damn shame
that people are so sue happy that they go after little girls who do
something that you can tag on many MANY far worse offenders.
You know, my grandfather told me some group was going tto sue everyone,
EVERYONE who uses file sharing programs. I didn't care about it then, and
I don't care about it now. I mean, how are they going to sue over
100,000,000 people WORLDwide? I guess that means that the only thing left
to ponder is ~
What kind of kazaa is she using? Mine is free (as if that helps my position
in the long run )

Yoo've just gotta love how many "associations" there are dedicated to
hunting down copywrite infringements, grafitti, and drug use when there are
so few dedicated to hunting down murderers and rapists. Keep that profit
rolling, America!

Oh yes yes yes that was on the local news last night. I hope they have
fun, they can go fuck themselves. They are seeking and sueing individuals
who are "stealing" files (mostly music or whatnot). They even have an
"amnesty" section where you can turn yourself in without repurcussions as
long as you PROMISE (laughable) that you're sorry and you'll delete your
files and never ever do it again.
Again, I hope they have fun with their little crusade and I can't wait for
it to all fall back in their faces. Fuck them.

John Stewart said it good on the Daily Show... "RIAA has issued over 500
lawsuits to illegal file sharers.... Man... that dorm is -toast-"
500 lawsuits in the millions of file-sharers is nothing. And you could
probably settle for next to nothing, just as long as the RIAA gets
publicity.

The theiving 12 year old monster just settled. Her single mother has to pay
$2,000 to the RIAA - god knows they need it more than she does. She can do
without eating while she contemplates her vile crime.

Alright, First of all the RIAA is the Recording Industry Association of
America. This is not some group, this is THE group. They put the capital
letter in They. They are the big music making boogie men that buy the souls
of musicians and sell them to the world at half price. If you have every
listened to the radio, bought a CD, a band poster, t-shirt, or hot dog then
you have in some way contributed to the RIAA.
They are pissed at you. They are pissed that anyone with a computer can
realize that CD's are overpriced and music, movies, and books can be freely
available. The internet has made something the RIAA always hated a norm.
The RIAA never liked reselling of CD's and Cassettes because it does the
same thing, they did not like the two deck tape recorder because it did the
same thing, they did not like people fucking recording music off the radio,
because they did the same thing. But you see, ten twenty years ago, it was
small potatoes, just kids making bootlegs, thanks to CD burners and the
internet that is no longer the case.
So here's the thing if you have downloaded music that is produced by an
artists licensed to work with the RIAA than you owe them money. They have
sworn to find you and take your money, and so far, people are bending over
backwards to settle with them. That pisses me off. But unfortunately, a
legal fight would only be more expensive and really, why do people download
music, mostly because they can't afford a fucking cd.
What really yanks my chain, though, is that the RIAA is basically suing
potential customers. You think someone who just had to pay the big RIAA
mafia $2,000 for downloading music is going to start rushing out to spend
money on CD’s?
If They were smart they would get with the times and learn how to make
money in an ever changing environment. Eventually they will have too, but
they are frightened by the techno boogie man and the millions of users
dedicated to finding ways to get something for nothing.
So what can you do about it. First, stop using KaZaa, they are targeting
KaZaa users and if you aren’t on there list you probably will be
soon. If you want to find out if the RIAA thugs are coming to your door
check out this link http://www.eff.org/IP/P2P/riaasubpoenas/ . You can
enter your IP or username into there search engine to see if you are on
their list. You can also find out ways to avoid being hunted down. Third,
don’t go for the amnesty deal, just because you get off with the RIAA
doesn’t mean that you will be free and clear. Taking the amnesty deal
is just an admission of guilt. Do you want to tell all the lawyers in the
world that you are guilty of something?
And lastly, STOP BUYING CDS, BAND MERCHANDISE, and CONCERT TICKETS AND
ANYTHING ELSE ISSUED BY THE RIAA. If you stop putting money into their
pockets they will not be able to peruse this indefinitely. BOYCOTT the
bastards, BOYCOTT, BOYCOTT. There are millions upon of music users who are
still buying enough CD’s and adding fuel to the RIAA war chest. Cut
them off. There is power in numbers, really there is.
Lastly, vote dammit. IF you don’t think that lawsuits against
millions of Americans is a cool thing than by voting or talking to your
representative you can give yourself some voice and maybe somebody in
Washington will realize this is pissing off the constituents and do
something before it gets really out of hand. On a quick note our president
in chief is not against the RIAA, he supported their case with Version,
which gave them access to the IP addresses of users downloading music. And
if you don’t think that the patriot act, and the homeland security
invasion of privacy acts aren’t in some small way responsible for
this than you are being really naive.

"That crook of a 12 year old. Parading as some innocent Catholic
schoolgirl. Down loading songs, and nursery rhymes for her evil use." the
radio dj said followed by laughter. "This is idiotic."
I'm with Domkitten; hit the RIAA where it hurts. Boycott CDs, my only
advice is "Steal More!" Steal songs from the internet, off the radio; maybe
even go old school pirating. Most importantly Boycott, and Protest. Tell
the RIAA that it is They stealing your hard earnd money.

HA HA HA HA!!!
Yeah, sure.
I can see that now. Man kicks the door in, hands CD to a woman then yells,
"NOW GIVE ME $13.99 FOR THE CD!" Then takes money and leaves.

Nah, screw piracy, let's go back to shoplifting, it's more adrenaline and
it hurts them even more obviously.
No seriously, if you want to hurt the RIAA, don't vote, it's not going to
do squat, instead use the time you would blow driving down to the
porta-potty cum punch-card booth and instead write a letter to Sony, write
a letter to IRS records, write a letter to buts an ass records (Or whatever
they are called) and tell them you do not support the actions of the RIAA
and you will be boycotting any and all RIAA members. Speak out and yes,
boycotting is a good idea, but tell the members of the RIAA why you are
boycotting. Make them hear that you are upset with the actions of the
fuckers and make them start a new "union" that will perhaps protect them in
a more consumer friendly manner.

DK and Shade: I was actually thinking about that today. Very brilliant
idea! After I buy London After Midnight CD's, no more music for me. Sorry
RIAA.

Anya, you brought up a good point that I should have made but didn't.
Not all the music and musicains have been co-opted by the RIAA. I did some
checking into London After Midnights record label (Metropolis Records) is
not an RIAA affiliate. So buy as much of London After Midnight stuff as you
would like.
If you like music, then buy music, just check the label and find out if the
artist is affiliated with the RIAA or not. Fortunately there are a lot of
artists and labels not affiliated with the RIAA.
For example Metropolis Records (http://www.metropolis-records.com/)
includes Bauhus amongst it's artists.
Epitaph Records (http://www.epitaph.com/) includes Offspring, Bad Religion
and Rancid
Matador Records (http://www.matadorrecords.com/) includes Solex, Pavement
and Yo Lo Tengo
If you want to find out if a band you like is associated with the RIAA or
if their album is associated with the RIAA try this handy little search
engine, although not fool proof, it is quite good (RIAA Search Engine). It
does take a few minutes for the results to load, but it's worth the wait.
So, boycott the RIAA support artists and labels that don't support the
RIAA. If we put money in the right pockets for a change it is sure to help.

Next time you pass by a magazine stand look for Popular Science. In the
October 2003 issue on page 20 there is a good article on new file-sharing
programs such as WASTE. Aswell as Bill Gates attempted to cut in with
ThreeDegrees.
