I don't know if any of you have noticed this, but there has been a sudden
attack of EBM in goth clubs now days. Does anyone else oppose of this? I
mean a little is okay in my opinion, but playing it constantly is a little
sad. So
yeah, tell me what you think. |

It all depends on taste, trend, and what the general club goer wants to
hear. If they play more ebm than they used to, and attendance RISES, then
it's obvious which way to turn their tables to. "Clubs" are businesses,
afterall, not personal tree-forts and have to make money, and if money =
playing more ebm than they used to, then that is what makes fiscal sense.
Try finding a club that sticks to more your type of music, even if it means
changing hangout spots, or just going on nights they play more your type of
music. Or, do what I do, and stay HOME and be my own dj. When I have the
time (ha, time, what's that?) ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

electro or electronic body music. More peppy than darkwave, more
depressing than techno. michael says european industrial. It's not bad,
really. Mentallo and the Fixer, VNV nation (to some degree) etc. If I'm
gonna listen to electronic music other than industrial, I usually stick to
darkwave and SOME ebm. I like my modern music with lyrics, and save the
wordless wonders for classical orchestra, but it's enjoyable for me if it's
thrown in the mix with other stuff. I don't think I could handle it all
night long.
As for clubs, most people are there to dance, and I have to be frank but
most "goth" music isn't very uh. Danceable. Unless you're into that
dreadful taffy-pulling...oh sorry, COWBWEB gathering move that seems as
prolific as the goddamned macarena at it's height. EBM, however, IS very
danceable (unless you are me, and then NOTHING is danceable), and attracts
the dancing crowds which pay the bills.
Like I said, stay at home! Smoke a pack of cloves, paint your nails, get
wasted on a $35 bottle of chartreuse and let your friends supply the
entertainment. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

It isn't european industrial really. European industrial music comes from
germany and contains far more by way of guitars. More like a slightly
electronicised ministry or something. Or a heavier Rob Zombie perhaps.

You make an obviously good point, bettie, but they seem to be playing this
on the only goth night in the area. The rest are fetish nights, and I
haven't even been to those yet. I've been too busy trying to keep up with
my boyfriend. I haven't been clubbing in about two or three months. I
just thought I would ask others opinions. The club I go to, no one really
dances... it's pretty lame. I'm going to start going to Chicago or
Milwaukee when I can. I don't mind EBM, but when everyone starts freaking
out about it and playing the same song every 30 min, it gets rather
irritating. I like the idea of Albion Batcave in Manhattan. They have 3
floors with different types of music playing in each room. The basement is
electronica/ebm/techno, the mainfloor is industrial, and the other room is
80's goth. If only they had a club like that around here. |

I live in such a shit-hole little town we don't even have goth clubs at
all, much less ones that play crappy electro-wave "music." We have one
single club downtown that will have a sort of goth night every once in a
while, all the other clubs are the same depressing dance pop clubs playing
Brittney Spears and Beyonce mixes.
I cry. It makes me miss Berlin. ____________________ Today's liberals are tomorrow's conservatives. When my generation is the

I like drinking anywhere, but being at a club means that I get to listen to
music at a much greater volume. Theres usually a chillout room place where
the music isn't so loud in most clubs so that you can avoid the shitty
songs and keep drinking.
Designated drivers. Hah, I remember those, they are the ones whose keys you
have to confiscate right? ____________________ Eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum.

I'm a believer in the DIY Goth Club (i.e. home). String a few
twinkle-lights, mix your favorite drink, choose your playlist...and enjoy.
Nobody stepping on the toes of your new boots, no cloud of choking smoke,
no morons puking on your black velvet outfit (unless you have idiot
friends).
Greetings, by the way. I'm new here, but I've been lurking for a while,
learning the ropes. |

Bettie, where is this magical bar? I want to join AA just so I can toss my
medallion in with their lot! And, you know, free drinks and all. ____________________ Today's liberals are tomorrow's conservatives. When my generation is the
