Since there are so many creative folks here. I just thought I'd ask where
you guy's get your inspiration from? what do you do when you're creativity
seems blocked? and what drives you to create your art in the first
place?
Only askin' cause i seem to be all dried up when it comes down to it....and
even worse a little bored.

In general, I find that completely letting yourself go, in respect to
thoughts about blockages and even art, is refreshing. Or maybe try doing
something new and unique, or working on a different aspect. I for one
suffered a vicious blockage a few weeks ago, but I've trained myself to
just forget about it. I spent a month not writting a word, and instead
switched to photography...after some time with that particular form, I
found myself bored with it, because I had exhausted the limits of artistic
expression that I can handle with photographing...so here I was, full of
pretty images and a few photogrpahy advenutres, but feeling blocked up, but
in a good way...and I got it out by going back to writting.
Do something strange, unnatural, highly impulsive, see where it takes you.
Or do what I love, and watch a movie with a very specific philosophy on
beauty, humanity, and art. I for one watched "I heart Huckabees", and then
I went about my day, tacking the film's ideas into my own life. I started
seeing myself come apart, started seeing the world as the same but
different, etc. I disucssed it with friends, visisted a nice sight, went to
a new club I'd never been to, etc.
Sometimes you need to jar your blockages by justy grabbing life by the hair
and smacking it around a bit, sort of like an abusive husband. It may not
be too pretty, smooth, or pure, but it gets the job, and squeezes the tears
out of life...and luckily, there's domestic violence charges involved.
Hope that vaguely helped.

unfortunately, I can't get artists block anymore. well, I can with my own
suff, and I hate it when that happens, but I can't with work. If I get an
artists block at work that lasts for more than a few hours things just
start looking mechanical and I just want to take solvent to whatever animal
it is that I am painting.... that has happened a few times. the key is to
never get out of the mood. sometimes it gets a bit overloaded, but then
again, it can also be fun.

i have been getting into graphic design a bit lately. some good words would
be any thing by http://spyroteknik.deviantart.com/. most things on
deviantart are okay but they have a very broad audience so lots of ignorant
people do stupid things.

Usually when I get artistic block I try to find things that inspire me. I
read books, watch movies and browse the web for photographs or stories to
help get me going again. Sometimes you can use someone else's imagination
to get yours moving.

Mann would tell you that a true artist cannot be at a loss for creative
impetus, but would suffer more from an over-abundance of the same. If on
the other hand one is the kind of bourgeois who would 'drink from the cup
of art, but not be prepared to sacifice his life to it', then this 'block'
should be treated with its due import, as a sign of an underlying lack of
percrption of the nature (sic) of the world around one.

heh, my entire life is completely and utterly devoted to my art now. now
that I really don't have many other worries. no school. just a job, that I
do art at... and then my spare time... where I do more art, and randomly
hang out with friends... heh. life is good sometimes.

Heh, aside from playing with myself at the drop of the hat like some bored
circus monkey, I find getting really REALLY pissed off at someone to be
pretty inspiring. Also hiding under the bed.

I put on some good music and then stop trying to think on an idea until one
sneaks up on me, usually when I'm in the shower or some other inconvenient
place, like the car.
The opposite works also - take a piece of paper and brainstorm - do 100 of
thumbnail sketches, no matter how silly or worthless to work out your
frustrations. Often when I do this, eventually the idea finds me faster
and evolves on its own.
When I get blocked for music ideas, I go do something rhythmic, such as
walking or riding a bike. Sex would work too, I suppose, but that is too
distracting for me.
