a friend of a friend of mine has a shirt that says in three lines across
the front:
"Homosexuals Are Gay"
there is nothing wrong with this, it is just blatent and he gets many looks
for it. personally i think it is awesome, it beats the pants off those
shirt that say things like "your village called, they want their idiot
back" and "i have gone to look for myself if i return before i get back.."
etc etc
has anyone else seen any shirts with things like this?
what do you think? good, bad, funny, cool? |

I have shirt which has pictures of piercing bars and rings around the words
"pierced, bored and screwed' which I liked because of the word play. I also
have one which says "lick me till I scream" which I initially bought in an
I-need-to-be-shocking phase, but ended up keeping it for comedy value after
wearing it while running into one of my nan's friends - she read it out
loud, and looked puzzled for a second before chirping "oh, -ice cream-, I
get it!" ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

Funny, schizophrenia shirts really don't bother me at all. I personally
think it's kind of silly to take your own personal issue (or in my case, my
dad's) and decide that it's just so much more worthy of tip-toeing around
than any other issue. You know what, it's just a disease. It's nothing
holy or sacred. Just a disease - both unpleasant, and yes, in some ways
funny. Unless people are trying to be mean about something, I think people
should just lighten up. I crack my own jokes about growing up with a
schizophrenic dad; it doesn't make me insensitive. And I'll call a mental
hospital a looney bin when I feel like it. So what. And I'm not even
going to say "I've gone through the pain, so I have a right to laugh." Who
am I to say that someone has to go through pain to laugh?
But that's just me. |

Oh, I don't know... I kinda like the t-shirts with the funny sayings. I
have one that I wear frequently and it gets smiles and attention from quite
a few people when I go out. It says, "Normal People Scare Me." I have a
brand new shirt that a friend gave to me for my birthday, it says "Those
who can't do, TEACH and practice light bondage after school." It has a
picture of a clothespin at the bottom. I like it, it's cute.
But then, it takes so little to amuse me.

OH YEAH, those shirts are so stupid. and so pointless.
the schizophrenia ones still bother me the most though I really have to
say.
I volunteered for the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society the other
week, every year Campion donates a boat to them so they can raffle it off
to raise money so I got to sit in the mall 3 different days for eight hours
each day and stare the people in extra foods. Apparantly nobody cares about
Schizophrenia enough to even come look at the FREE READING MATERIAL we had
all over the desk - I think I talked to 2 people that were actually
interested in the subject itself instead of the boat.
On another note I probably spent more time in the mall in those three days
than I have in at least the last 4 years.
In the last year or two though they have erected a small stand in a
crossroads down the way from the ever popular HMV and SportChek and right
next to Purdy's Chocolate. This stand is solely for the purpose of selling
these shirts. It's one of those things like the GAP - keep a good 7-12 foot
radius at all times!
What I did see at Sakura-con in Seattle at the end of March (a Japanese
Anime Convention) were some awesome geek shirts. What makes me less ack
about geek shirts is not really that less people have them, quite a few
people in fact have them though they are much less common. What makes me
like them is the originality and wit that comes on them.
Onigiri Shirts for instance. --> http://www.cafepress.com/sushishirtsxd/883430
I want one. Its original, it's witty, you have to actually know something
about another culture to get it. They sell all kinds of food shirts. But
onigiri's are my favourite.
Buttons and Stickers - lots of buttons/stickers these days are kind of
lame, band ones - most of them just say the name and have a band logo.
Other than that they don't really sell to many stickers/buttons to the
public that are for something other than being userful. Some of the buttons
at this convention were just text - which I found pretty lame. Things like
XD or O.o or I <3 Pantsu. Some of the stickers too - just popular anime
characters or black and white text. (Though I admit I got a fancy green o.O
sticker, it was 50cents!)
Some buttons though were mini versions of peoples intricate and beautiful
drawings or they were small drawings - my favourite Button I got is of a
cat peering out of a boot - it goes along with a keychain of the same cat
diving into the boot on one side and being head first in the boot on the
other.
Gotta admit there wasn't really any BRILLIANT stickers... the best one I
have really is the old take off the "Hello my name is" sticker. It says
"Hello my name is ______ and I'm addicted to pocky." Which I am not really
since they don't sell pocky anywhere near me that I am aware of, but I do
love pocky and they didn't HAVE one for Tea.
All the same the point is that these shirts and buttons and stickers and
keychains and all the lovely stuff you that can get at conventions are
really quite the same as the stuff you can get at the prep-shops like
Ardenes or Hot Topic or wherever, but its so much BETTER because it
actually incorporates some kind of WIT, it takes more knowledge than how to
read to understand the joke.
A shirt my friend got had an arrow pointing up, and arrow pointing down,
and arrow pointing left, and a closed fist. Another friend got an "I roll
20's {pic of d20}" shirt (hopeing it would bring her luck since she
actually tends to roll 2's) and I tell ya if you want a "piercing" shirt -
try 30lbs of chain-mail. That guy was awesome, he said it hurt since he had
been walking around for 45 minutes - I can only imagine the muscles on the
people that wore those all the time. Or the Johnny The Homicidal Maniac
shirt - Z? unless you have read the comic - you won't have a clue. Even the
growing popularity of Pure Pwnage still has originality to their shirts. One
example being the counterstrike headshot symbol, another being a white
block with an open hand under the word Uber beside a black block with a
hand with the thumb and first two fingers up under the word Micro. |

Well I haven’t been around for a while but here I come to splurge with
cynical psycho-babble. But yes. About these t-shirt things. I particularly
dislike t-shirts that people bring back that say things like “my brother
went to N.Y. and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.”
I absolutely despise them. I hope I’m not the only one. ____________________ fucking classy. |

My favorite "message tee" bears the picture of a nun sitting on a cafe'd
motorcycle, wearing engineer boots and smoking. The caption reads,
"Wherever there is sin, that's where I must go."
I love the shirt so much, I bought another one that is still in the plastic
bag, for when the original wears out.
Older people and religious people really seem offended when they read it.
Which is nice. |

I have a shirt that says:
"I am far too amused by your ineptitude to be of any use to this
situation." I wear it less and less because I get sick of people stopping
me to read it and then slowly reading it out... "I... am... far.. too..
amused... by... your................ inep...ti....tude...."
Jesus fucking christ man.. let me write it down for you. It would be faster
and I can go about my fucking day!
Another shirt I have says "I have piercings in places you would love to
lick"
Then there is my sick puppy shirt. It has a dog on the back with a man
standing behind it with a rolled up news paper. A bubble over the dogs head
says "Oh yeah baby. Do it! I love it when you spank me!" Above the image is
"sick puppy".
And then there is my love hurts shirt. Always turns heads when I wear it
out with my 12 year old daughter. It says love hurts and has an old vintage
bondage pic of a girl bound in irons wearing a metal bikini and really high
heels.
I want my co-workers shirt though. It says "Unforunately, there is no
upgrade for stupid people yet." ____________________ Suicide Hotline - Please Hold |

Schitz you would know more than anyone else, because you grew up around it,
and it immediately affected your life. My dad had to grow up with his
older brother being the way he is, and even if people think it's mean or
sad, they're a burden, and being sick yourself is a burden. There is a
difference between cracking jokes and begging for attention via cotton
billboard. Cracking jokes is a natural way to ease frusteration, sadness
and tension. Begging for attention is positively stupid. I was outside
smoking the other day and there was a group of 12 year old doomsters trying
to beg smokes off passersby, and one was liek "I'm such a psycho, omg" and
then the other one said "hey that's not funny, I'm PSYCHO and it's not
funny I got locked up in a mental institution an my mom is such a bitch and
I'm a PSYCHO I was there for like 2 weeks I need to be locked up again".
.....i wanted to punch her lights out right there. Yeah it's not funny, so
don't fucking announce your problems as a badge of honor and laugh about
how it's not funny, only to tell your friends more bullshit make-believe
about how SiCk you are.
And you know what? Laugh about it, crack jokes, make light of it, it's
sometimes the only way to get through it, but if you want to win a pride
fight over your school of hard knocks and mental illness, I'll go in the
cage with you little bastards any time. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

dads mother was. it came up in conversation once and i said that and one of
the people said "wow, that is pretty cool." ... >.> i just ignored her.
now that it is (for some reason) so 'in' to be crazy it is hilarious in an
ironic sense that people will actually put you down for being normal. i
just have a hard time feeling bad for not being as weird as other people
are, so i dont. i figure some day they will get it, that real crazy people
dont have as much fun as they 'seem' too. |

Tell me about it, Bettie. You all know why I call myself Schizo, and
unlike these doomcookies, I have a right to that name. They just put my
father back into the mental hospital, and he's likely to stay there for
life. He stopped taking his medication, and started leaving the door open
at nights for all his "friends" to come in. He would sit on the couch and
talk aloud to a little girl he met on a trip to Scotland he went on when I
was young. He would make random long-distance calls trying to locate
people from his past. He made several calls in one day to a cafe in Maine
that an old friend used to work at 15 years ago, because he didn't believe
them when they told him they didn't work there anymore. And then he
started taking Mom's car out on joy rides, even though he shouldn't have
been driving after the last accident he got into (nearly killed him, and
triggered this new psychotic phase), and took it down to New Jersey and
totalled it. Found out later that he "had reason to believe" that a girl
who had been killed in an accident he had been in as a young man was still
alive, and he was looking for her. That gave Mom the leverage to have him
taken in, and he won't forgive her for it.
Oh, and did I mention he managed to buy himself a pair of guns? As far as
we know, he hadn't been shooting any imaginary people with them this time,
but given the time and the right twitch of his brain, I wouldn't put it
past him.
I really don't mind people making jokes about mental illness. Hey, I do it
myself. Some of the things my dad does are pretty funny, in a sad sort of
way. You have to deal with it somehow. Laughter seems to me to be a
pretty good way. But it does bug me when people brag about how psycho they
are. I want to tell them, you don't know shit. Being "psycho" is not
something to brag about. And if you really were, you'd deny it with your
last breath, like my dad, who is furious about his rights being taken away,
and is convinced that it is a huge conspiricy with Mom at the head. No,
sorry, little freak, you just lack self-control and common sense. There's
no medication for that. ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and the

Well, to be softer on it than I usually am, we're all guilty of buing
something silly that strikes our fancy every now and again (and sometimes
more). But like everything, it'll run its course and be done with soon
enough. It happened to the "don't worry be happy" bit and the smiley face
with "shit happens", and this too will pass and we'll all have stupid
pictures of us in ridiculous clothes to hide from our kids some day.
I just wonder if the people who are buying those "schitzopherenic" t shirts
really know what it's like to be schitzopherenic or to know someone who is.
I've known at least TWO full blown paranoid schitzopherenics in my life,
one a friend's mom and the other my uncle. It's not funny, and it's not
catchy and it's not cute. My friend put up since childhood her mother
wigging out, harming herself, locking herself away for weeks afraid "they"
were after her. She spent her days wrapped in an afghan on the couch chain
smoking watching cable public access for hidden govt plans, expousing to
her daughter and I about the microchips they want to put in us and
alternately BEGGING us to swear we wouldn't let them microchip us or her.
I stayed the night one time and her mother was on their computer (an out of
date Tandi 200 or something) from 3pm to 11am tying the alphabet into the
hangman game trying to decode the messages in it. She tried to harm
herself multiple times, ran away from "them" as far as canada multiple
times (only to be retrieved by the police), and last I heard from her was
she set herself on fire in the garage, sustaining 3rd degree burns on half
her body.
Then there is my uncle, who is locally known by highschoolers as the "bike
guy" who used to ride from one town to the other on his bike (with so much
crap plastered to it I don't know how he could even ride the damned thing,
including a big pirate flag on the back) flipping off cars, weaving in and
out of traffic, and spending hours walking around his bike swearing at it
and anyone who happened by. I actually won a radio contest about "craziest
family members" for recounting the time my grandpa wouldn't give him money
so he spray painted "JEW" on the side of my dad's work shop. We aren't
jewish. He was finally put in a group home, and when my parents cleaned
out his trailer he had GRASS growing out of the carpet, ruined furniture,
parrot food and parrot poop all over the place (about an inch deep in the
living room) and spray painted messages all over his walls. Oh, and piles
of low grade pornography.
I know I'm making WAY too much out of all of this, but every time I hear
some kid going on about how they should be locked up for being schitzo,
psycho, demented, to impress their friends, or is wearing one of those "I
do what the penguins tell me to do" shirts, I just wonder if they really
REALLY know, or would WANT to know, what it's like dealing with someone
with real, genuine problems. Then again, it'd give them some new trauma to
tell everyone about. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

I have never seen the masturbate=dead kitten forward or anywhere else than
on the shirts this band was selling, and it was kind of a bonus. I bought
the shirt THEN saw the back, and had a giggle. And honestly, if something
you see on a t shirt makes you think too terribly hard, then it really is
time to get out of the house or at least away from the television. I'm
REALLY sick of the mock pseudo-psycho "I nEeD tHeRaPy" t shirts on ever

the forward oh about *looks at watch* 50 thousand times now. i still dont
actually understand it, though it is not one of those things that has
anything to understand to it.
never heard of "Jesus is my homeboy" guess im not 'gangsta' enough... the
two people fucking shirt though - that is funny. i enjoy that immensly.
most of the tshirthell shirts are (as bettie puts it) "quirky phrase"
types... i dunno they are funny and stuff but they still annoying. it is
like they are say the same thing "BUY ME AND BE COOL" one friend of mine
has a shirt that says "Yank my doodle, it's a dandy" with a picture of a
smily face. i think that one is great, never seen it on anyone but him. |
