Considering various forms of String and hyper-dimensional theories, gravity, as with all forces, is in fact a plane rather than a force. yet it is only recognised when it interects our own planes. The question is, if the gtavitational plane uses vertices independent of the ones we recognise as physical, why does it always act relative to them?

Devin:
Ah, I am indeed familiar with the works you cited. At issue though is the nature of the difference between information and chance. Professor Douglas Adams, using a Bambleweeny 57 sub-meson electronic brain and an electron vector plotter, demonstrated some key points to proving his postulate that information and probability are derived from the same source. It was suggested in an eccentric but theoretically valid work from 1990 titled "Beers, Steers, Queers and the mutability of universal constants" (Jourgensen, Acker, 23) that no universal law is truly immutable and that seemingly dissimilar concepts such as time, gravity, information, etc may at some point be equivalent, to wit:
"Minds are empty, heads are hollow. You might find out the truth is hard to swallow. There's a place down there, where heads are square. Laws are tough, and you are bare. There is a law and there is a lawman. Who is the right, and who is the wrong man.". They go on to suggest that their research group, the Revolting Cocks Investigative Society, is "God" as an illustration.
Or, in the words of Professor Blackman addressing the fifth annual Teilhard de Chardin memorial Information Symposium, "Welcome to the land of pointless and destructive."

abbadon: cite references... or shut up...

A plane is defined as have dimension, and dimensio is defined a direction one can move in... therefore... your statement but the basic cartesian system accepted by modern physicists is inherently flawed...

Rouge, what is the first name of Daughty? (Out of curiosity)
Merely because Pat Daughty was my physics tech teacher at the career center and he had previously worked for Nasa and just retired from teaching to work for Nasa again.

However, upon the physical plane everyone (for the most part) do have good quotes and good sites and good positions.... However, let us expand to the metaphorical.
Such as the gravity of a situation. The thought that gravity could be used to explain the falling of the sky in chicken little though the sky is, and is not dense enough to fall in mass. Being that the sky is for the most part gaseous. Could the story be referring to a sleet or hail storm, which then again could also be referenced to a storm of emotion.

Doughty's first name is Mike, he was the front man for Soul Coughing. The good question is, who is Rouge?

It comes full circle I see, I said much earlier that there is no such thing as gravity, only excess levity...thanks Feral.

Although all of your arguments are interesting, I also remember that Proffessor Adams et Al, postulated that the exitance of gravity could be negated by simply forgetting about it, or at least being to distracted to remember it.

In the early 90's publication on the nature of both temporal and intemperate "The Ubiquitious" (Dr. Lovegroove, 69) it was stated:
"I thought that you knew it all, Well you've seen it ten times before. I thought that you had it down, With both your feet on the ground. I love slow...slow but deep.
Feigned affections wash over me. Dream on my dear, And renounce temporal obligations. Dream on my dear."

Finally, as was stated in "An analysis of the inworkings of the Party" (O'brien, 1984)
"Reality is inside the skull. You will learn by degrees, Winston. There is nothing that we could not do. Invisibility, levitation -- anything. I could float off this floor like a soap bubble if I wish to. I do not wish to, because the Party does not wish it. You must get rid of those nineteenth-century ideas about the laws of Nature. We make the laws of Nature."

Gravity, than is little more than a thought process, and a useless one in the grand scheme of things. If it were not for gravity pants would fall down, and I'm all for the loss of pants.

So if gavity is all in our heads why does a baby trip and fall? Better yet if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around does it fall?

Consensual reality conveniently explains the baby falling. Sense babies are watched most of the time. In which case we're all guilty for those lil bump and bruises. However the tree in the middle of nowhere is in a "Heisenberg's cat" scenario. The tree has a 50/ 50 shot of falling, or standing depending on your perception of gravity/reality. So the tree exist in two realities one where it has fallen, the other the tree still stands; while remaining in a state of limbo in this reality... Sense no one is there to observe the nowhere tree will remain in limbo. Unless there really is gravity.

consensual reality does not require observation, simply faith of the masses...

And there is the snag, Feral. One mass believes the tree will fall, the other mass believes the tree will stand. Consensual reality is an explanatory convenience like God. Take for example the voyage of Christopher Columbus. The masses believed the world was flat, and that Columbus would fall off the face of the Earth. Columbus thought he would find a faster trade route to India. Instead he discovered the new world. How does consensual reality explain that?

dead cell...very true.. BUT let me ask you this... just because humanity believed that... does that mean the majority population of the universe did? or the planet? only huuman arrogance would suggest that only our beliefs and perseptions mattered in defining the universe around us

Or perhaps Mr. Colombus's willpower was just stronger than most of the world, allowing him to make the world round, but since he was fighting against all those flat earthers, he wasn't able to sail to india, and instead, he wound up in a new continent.

I hate joining debates in the middle, but anyway.

Gravity exsists because some smart arse decided that it does, it is an invisible force that acts on things in funny and unfamiliar ways. We pretend to know how it is made and how it works, but we really dont have any idea. Wtf is a black hole if gravity does not pull? Wtf is dark matter, dark energy and all that other shit that everyones favourite scientists have made up. It is just something to confuse us further until someone says they know what they are talking about and then they "develope another theory". Dont get me wrong, I am fasinated about space and the beyond, but scientists make it to confusing.

Mind you most of the physics equations do work within their right, but when things start get complicated so do the equations, stupid things..

[/end rant]
