LadyC. your advice is welcomed. I am grateful for it. As for as have your

My daddy said to me in all his sageful wisdom was "Now your
biggest mission is
adding 'dy' to dad" What I am saying is even if you are not
the biological
mommy you are still mommy.

Dense: Thanks, but I'm going to have to wait anyway. I'm on my way out of
a marriage that never shou;d have been in the first place, and I'm still
dealing with a chronic illness, an ex-lover, flashbacks, and the emotional
repercussions of a miscarriage I probably should have been over by now.
It'll be al ong time before I even consider something like
that...*sigh*...wounds run deep...but thank you anyway...
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of prenatal vitamins and prenatal
care. Technically, women of childbearing age should take prenatal vitamins
anyway...it just a backup for what should be a healthy diet anyway...

You know I giggled myself stupid when I posted that, I know you weren't
saying the kids were accidents, I just thought of how odd it would sound if
you were sitting around and your Aunt said it instead of your mother, but
perhaps that's just because my family was so damned screwed up....Take a
deep breath people I work with kids and really enjoy their company, they
are much wiser than most of the adults I know, and good for stupid fun,
too. Plus that get all my jokes....
My only reccomendation, don't color co-ordinate or brand item your child.
My biggest complaint with parents these days is the amount of brand
identity they are feeding their children. I always find it a little
disturbing when my four year old kids come in talking about their Nike
shoes or Fubu shirts. I have a lot of kids who change backpacks and pencil
cases every day because something else is "in" and it bugs me a great deal.
Granted you don't have to start thinking about that right away, but you
might want to remeber it when the clothes at the Baby Gap are looking good.
Also, I can not stress the importance of a good car seat. The first thing
you should by is a good car seat. I'm not sure what the best stuff on the
market is right now, but there are definately some mom's hear that can
reccomend things.
Other than that have fun....

Folic Acid. Make sure she gets plenty of folic acid during the first early
stages. It cuts down on neural tube defects.

She is taking her vitimins. She is a "light" vegitarain but during the
pregnacy that is out. The other day she was distrought because she ate a
whole pound of bacon. I could do nothing more than point out things like
that happen when you are pregant. The funny thing is I am getting cravings
too. I have had them for pickles&peanutbutter, raw oysters, mostly salty or
sour things. I am mostly worryed about calcium. Doesn't the forming of baby
bones take away the calcium? As far as cigars my friends are not even
alowing my to smoke unless we are drinking. I have cut that back and I am
not that big of a drinker. I do have my boy long running down to mexico for
cubains.

Dense: Yeah, she should be getting extra calcium and fluids now as well, so
she and the baby both stay healthy.
Cravings on your part are normal, by the way. Since you and she are so
intimate, it's natural that you would pick up on the cravings as a
sympathetic response. It's one of the more amusing things I've noticed
about the pregnancies around me.
Domkitten: I was just clarifying so people would understand that I in no
way considered my nieces and nephews accidents. The important thing was to
be there for my sisters when they found out they were pregnant.
As for screwed up families...well, I think they're more common than
not...people can be bastards, especially to people they love.
And I agree: kids are pretty awesome. They can be holy terrors, but
sometimes they can help people see things they would ordinarily miss about
life...

Congrats!!
As other people've said, play music to the baby and and also read to it,
even before it's born. And then don't stop. It's a lot better for the kid
than being stuck in front of the idiot box, and it will help them learn
skills such as talking, then reading and writing a lot quicker.
