If you are in a vegetative state, then I don't see why it would be such a
bad way to "live". Unless the idea that your parents and loved ones
suffering is so bad that you think you should make it easy for them and off
yourself, why not just ask to keep yourself alive in your livivng will. If
the doctors are right, then its not like your in your head screaming "Oh my
god, make this end! Ican't move, help meZ!" and there is always a chance
that you come out of it. I always figured that if your not suffering, and
you might come back, why ask for death? but thats just me. |

THe point is that she had no living will, and the only person who stated
she didnt' want to "live that way" was her husband who has no proof of such
a statement. The fact that she is "awake" and with therapy can possibly
come out of her ordeal and the fact that he is DENYING any kind of physical
recuperative therapy to HELP her regain a functioning life just reeks of a
shitbag smelling a financial windfall.
Now say that if Terri's husband had exhausted all possibilities and
therapies to try to bring back her functioning body, used the settlement
money to find every opinion and treatment like it was INTENDED FOR, and she
had a will stating she didn't want to be in a physically vegetative state,
THEN I would see due cause for letting her die, per her wishes. The fact
that she has no will, that he has refused any sort of treatment or therapy
AT ALL, and that he's found himself a new lady and stands to inherit a
million dollars or more at the moment of her death. I mean they had to go
to COURT to get a doctor NOT of his choosing to be able to see her.
Doesn't that strike anyone as more than a tad WIERD?
THEN there is the fact of whether or not she asked her husband to not let
her linger in brain death on life support, or in any kind of incapacitated
state? She's surviving on her own with little more than a feeding tube. It
is rare in most cases for an unthinking braindead person to be able to
sustain themselves without life support (heart/lung machine).
Regardless of the outcome, it's just another point on why at any age it's
important to not only have a living will with specific instructions on care
and "when to pull the plug", but to also let your WHOLE family know your
wishes. Or you could be the next Terri, fighting for your right to live or
suffering in a useless body. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

bettie is right . if terri was brain dead how is it that she can breathe on
her own? the state that terri is in is almost the equivalent as someone
being in a coma yet showing periods of wakefulness. that is why death for
terri does not seem right.the way terri ended up in such a state is very
rare. when people are in a coma it has been discovered that they can hear
what is being said to them.who can say that terri cannot perceive what is
happening around her? i did some research and found out that in a
vegetative state the brain is more active than if someone is in a coma,
people come out of comas every day. her brain is still funtioning to some
degree, if all she needs is a feeding tube there is no reason for her to
die.

Well, Terri's fight is now over. The fucktards got their way. They were
permitted to starve and dehydrate her to death, and those who actually
loved her were not permitted to be with her at her death. It's wonderful to
know that it's allowable for people to torture a person to death by
starvation and dehydration all the while with their brain being conscious
of the torture.
Here's a link to the story of her actual death.

I personally think both sides of the entire thing have legit arguements.
For Michael:
1. Medical care is not cheap. Especially full time medical care. This has
been paid for by him for a VERY long time. The web site, terrisfight.org,
is a one sided arguement. In the myths about Terri page they give a list of
where the money has gone but they conveniently leave out the cost of full
time medical care. I can tell you as someone who used to be a live in
elderly care taker, this is not a cheap service. To be in a full time
medical facility is even more expensive.
2. People move on. His wife has been lying in a hospital bed not speaking
to him, not holding him, not touching him... NOTHING. Because she is a
vegetable. It is literally as though she died a long time ago. He has moved
on and has fallen in love again. Does that make him a filthy piece of skum?
That is debatable. Keep in mind that he has been fighting this court battle
for years. This isn't something he just decided to do when his new fiancee
got pregnant. I found someplace that he was not engaged when he first
started this battle.
3. "if terri was brain dead how is it that she can breathe on her own?"
Brain dead people are able to breath, blink and swollen. All of these
things are natural reactions. For instance, if someone hits you on the knee
with a hammer, your knee jerks. Did you have to think about it? If someone
poured a small amount of water in your mouth slowly while you were sleeping
you would swallow it in your sleep, not drown.
4. Once you become 18, you are now an adult. I told my ex-boyfriend that if
I was ever a vegetable, I wanted to die. He said the same thing to me. Did
we ever tell our parents this? No, because we don't with our parents. I'm
sure that some people tell their parents too but most people do not.
5. "Terri's husband/guardian speaks for her. She cannot divorce without his
permission"
That is a deceptive statement on that site. You can't divorce someone if
you can't sign the divorce papers. You can't divorce someone if you can't
say "I want a divorce" because you are a vegetable in a hospital. Don't you
think that Michael tried this route? Everyone is putting him off as a cold
blooded killer who never even tried any other method and just went straight
to "kill my wife because I want her money and I'm going to marry someone
else".
At the same time:
1. I can't believe he wouldn't even let her family in to sit by her while
she died. _Most_ men are so fucking childish.
2. Her family offered to take over her care and finances. He could have
just walked away. But then again, he couldn't have divorced her.
3. He should have used his OWN funds to pay for the legal cost... not her
medical care money!!!
4. There was no WRITTEN living will and that alone should have stopped this
from happening.
That's my 2 cents. Take it or leave it. ____________________ Suicide Hotline - Please Hold |

i just can't get my head around the issue... they say eigher the tube stays
in and she stays a veggie forever or the tube comes out and she starves to
death before she can die naturally. if he is doing her will or whatever it
just seems like it would be more humane to let her die comfortably as
possible... if she was allowed to eat it would just take a little longer
but at least she would not die scared hungry and terribly confused ... or
whatever she feels as a vegetable like person...
i just can't get my head around people being so heartless, and not seeming
to realize what they are doing at all... |

That one has to go down as the most ironic quote I have ever read living as
we do in the post-Age of Enlightenment (or, Age of Oprah). Here's another
one...
"One death is a tragedy; a million a statistic." ~Josef Stalin.
Or to put it another way: "The extermination of an entire people, ecology,
lifeways and belief system and the suppression of democracy, individual
liberty, national autonomy and dissent to pad the wallets of contemptible
plutocrats is policy; watch the sideshow du jour to take your tiny,
ineffectual minds off it." ~Monolycus.

It doesn't matter really. Personally, I think this is nobodies business but
the family and her husband. Too many people are getting involved in
something at the last minute with last minute information and now everyone
is fighting to change these things. I will most definately have a living
will after all of this. Mostly because there is not a single person in my
family who would even bother to care for me if I was in such a position and
those who would, don't have the money to. I would never wish that financial
burden on myself or anyone I love.
Maybe people should think about their own situations due to this instead of
concentrating on the situation of someone they know nothing about, have
never met personally and have nothing to do with.
Allow me to point out that this entire thread and the topic of this thread
is just shmeng. Distance shmeng aimed towards people nobody knows is still
that, still shmeng.
My initial post was to point out that there are always two sides to every
story but maybe I should have just "SHMENG" instead.

Can I pose a completely adverse idea on this?.. IT'S OVER. let the girl
lie... This is blown WAY out of proportion. I don't agree with starving but
htey had her on med to where she felt no pain. Hell i'd tell them to just
lethal inject me... and it would have been alot better for her but still...
people are such pusses about shit that they would have forgot its less
horrifying to lethal inject that to starve/dehydrate because LI is
osmething ot do to CRIMINALS. Ohhhh noooo... IT'S OVER! over and DONE with.
Drop it. People look for the littlest things to butt into other peoples
private business for. That is between terri, her husband, her parents and a
court of law. Leave the people alone. Why this case and no other ones? oh
well... thats my view on the whole issue. Like it or not. She is dead. ____________________ Anata ga sabishii toki, bokumo sabishii n da yo |

well... no offense intended, but we are in the process of discussing the
moral implications... yes she is dead... and we are discussing the reasons
and implications of how and why... if you don't like the topic, don't read
it... ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.

But in truth Feral.. we are also discussing morals. The morals of those who
get involved in things that have nothing to do with them.
The thing is that while I disagree with the situation of her death, I also
am willing to admit that I am not involved in the situation. So therefore,
I do not have enough knowledge to pass judgement on anyone or become angry
towards the husband for what he has done. Now if I was related to the woman
or very good friends with her before her condition set in, then I would
have every right to voice online what a prick he was or how the parents
were not allowing her wishes to be respected because I would have known
about the situation for longer than just a month or so. I would have more
insight into who she was before she was hospitalized. I would know if the
parents were always pushing their views on the couples marriage when she
was still healthy. I would know if there was previous hard feelings between
the husband and her parents while she was healthy.
I cannot form an opinion on this due to lack of information and to do so...
is Shmeng to me. But that is just my opinion which I have just as much
right to voice here as anyone else. ____________________ Suicide Hotline - Please Hold |

Something like this, sadly enough, isn't surprising in the least...
It's gone from sad to horrifying, then tragic, then vengeful, then
ridiculous...then boring...
it's like nine eleven on a smaller, much more personal scale.

empty and heartless on tv...
