I am FAR from religious, but I am still spiritual. Youīre right and I know
how you feel. My mom kind of nags on me about the same stuff as does some
of her friends. Eh, I have to deal with it. Thank goodness Iīll be out of
the house soon. But look on the "bright side" (whatever that is, haha),
hypocrites are more likely to go in their version of Hell than
non-believers. :)
Master your demon, before it masters you.
Of course you can be a deeply spiritual person and not be religious. Lots
of people are. "Spiritualism" has a bad rep these days, the word nearly
synonomous with hippie, tree hugger, foil hat wearing speaker of alien
tounges...you name it.
I bid for the "I donīt have a fucking clue" club. I donīt know, I donīt
pretend to know, I just feel. I FEEL the idea of god is stupid and
juvenile...but thatīs me...others FEEL that god is a very real entity, and
that to them the thought that there is no god is equally stupid and
juvenile. Iīm all about people believing what they feel, FAITH, but donīt
tell me there is scientific evidence to back it up. I donīt have
scientific proof for MY side of the fence, and LACK of evidence doesnīt
equal proof.
I know I could be wrong...and I donīt care. Weīll all find out when weīre
dead. Nobody will know until they are D E A D. If Iīm wrong, Iīll save
all you fellow heathens out there a barstool in old scratchīs 24/7/eternity
coctail lounge.

I like the way you think Bettie...
Me...I guess I sortaī feel the same way. Besides, I just personally donīt
like the word God, and as I already have an established problem with
authority...well...
I donīt like the idea of kneeling before ANYTHING.

I am questioning my faith greatly but I did once believe there was a god
out there....but a god according to Christian society....I think that his
image is greatly distorted as to what is truely is. All these rules,
Christianity and other nationally organized religions are just instruments
of control.
I think that if there was a god, all he wants us to do is to love each
other and live in peace. None of those rules, none of this control, no more
bigotry, religious persecution, political policy/movements of shackling
freedom, no restraints on the mind and spirit, just love eachother. It
doesnt matter what god you worship, if you have none, or even if you are a
participant in the Church of Satan *which from my knowledge, believes that
you are your own god* or whatnot, if you try your hardest to love your
world and respect life then we can achieve a true peace.
Nevertheless, its easier said than done. A good portion of the population
just wants to follow the crowd, too many of us are programed to be bigots.
Religion, in these days is still as much as ever, a controlling factor of
hate.
O_O...you know, the last girl who tried to get me to kneel ended up in an
exceedingly strange position...
But in truth, although Iīm generally outrageously against submitting...Iīm
sure thereīs something or someone out there that I would kneel to, without
submitting...
More a matter of Honor, than weakness...
And far be it from me to not give someone a chance to try...

One of my favorite
bands,[url=http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1921505706&c
link=dmiys/Nine_Inch_Nails/dmmu-ks/downer]Downer, made a song about this
whole religious problem.
I know, many other bands out there spend their whole persona on this
problem but Downer hits it right on the head with this whole thing.
The songīs called Born Again.
Try downloading it or something.
heh, I find it funny how people can so blindly put their faith into a
religion when you think about it, is more preposterous and juvenile than a
childs imaginary friend. Even old imaginary friends make more sense than
many things in Christianity.
i believe theres a gawd. but i dont think he has much to do with this
world.. or rather.. he isnt supervising it..

Who else thinks its bull shit about people trying to change the pledge of
allegiance? So, Iīm not christian. One nation under GODDESS. big deal,
change the word? Or just dont say it. Its not like youīre being forced.
People are taking it a little too far these days.

The original american pledge of allegiance didnīt contain the line "one
nation, UNDER GOD" when it was written, it originally read "one nation,
independent". It was changed to "under god" in the 50īs during vietnam to
boost morale, tho it BLATANTLY is a violation of the constitutional
separation of church and state.
What I donīt like is the way that one man on the news, the athiest that
doesnīt want his daughter exposed to the "under god" part of the pledge
(whoīs daughter doesnīt even live with him, and is a christian, and is very
upset about it), is going about it, but I DO agree with changing it back,
and have always felt it was a violation of the constitution and doesnīt
belong in the flag pledge, or in schools, any more than the 10
commandments.
If itīs a private religious school, have a blast, if not, leave it out.
What about the jewish kids? Or the Islamic kids? Or the athiest children?
Or the pagan kids? Or the satanists? Think "under god" isntī going to
make them uncomfortable? Or out of place?
The original pledge is a good pledge, an honest pledge, a pledge true to
our constitutional right to have a separate church and state. They never
should have changed it then, and they should have changed it back YEARS ago
when they realised they were in violation of the very document that allows
them to be religiously free, and other people to be free of "governmental
religion".
I dontī like that our currency says "under god".
I donīt like that our pres. is sworn in with an "under god" oath on a
christian bible.
I donīt like that our pledge was altered to say "under god"
I donīt like the idea of being forced to swear in on a bible in court.
I donīt like the 10 commandments in school offices.
as much as we hate to admit it, the system IS saturated with
religion...itīs on our money, in our pledge, in our courts and in the white
house. "god bless america" folks...WHICH GOD?! oh....THEEEE god..how
silly of me.
Bollocks to the whole bag of filth, I say.
Iīm gonna go buy a nice, anonymous island where god canīt FIND me.

Jesus was a communist, Muhammad was a marketing executive and Buddha had a
eating disorder.
That makes God a pick-pocketing, overweight spin doctor.

*smiles at bettie* thank you, for some reason I was under the impression
that it was always that way and people were now just making a big deal
about it. In my school once a year they make us say the pledge of
allegiance, and I just change the words. Not disrespectfully as in "you
suck" but I just say "under goddess." But thats me..I can understand where
an atheist might get mad....Iīm Wiccan and I donīt like to be classified as
a "church goer" when the teacher uses the class as an example, i can see
the point.

The thing is, this guy trying to ban "from god" in the pledge: Iīll bet you
he seriously believes he is right and that this isnīt a popularity
(unpopularity, attention) stunt.
Also, yes it is stupid. I donīt like the fact we have idiots in Congress
trying to censore violent video games because they believe they know whatīs
best, but Iīm not getting them thrown out of the country.
I donīt like the MPPA for butchering movies, even if I complain I can get
them deported!
Ack, you get the idea.
Itīs just stupid. Really, really stupid.
I never said the pledge when I was in high school, Iīm not offended by it,
itīs my right to not speak it. Problem solved...for me atleast.
He probably DOES believe he is right, but where he is wrong is using a
CHILD as his soapbox. SHE has no problem with it, is a person of christian
persuasion, and the whole deal is VERY embarassing to her. Using a child
in any way to get what you want is WRONG. PERIOD. No matter how noble the
cause.
I did sit in silence during the pledge. I was reprimanded and told I HAD
to repeat it, and when I said that "under god" wasnīt required of me in a
public school, of the government, that was constitutionally and LEGALLY
supposed to be chruch/state removed, I got THEE blankest look Iīve ever
SEEN. I told her that the "under god" was unconstitutional, and tho there
was nothing I could do to change it, I had a constitutional right to not
participate in a religious pledge. That I was a citizen of america, not a
citizen in the Christian Country of America.
I was no longer told to say the pledge.
I donīt believe in pacifism, but I also know when and how and where to pick
your battles. Some people are content to alter the words. I am not. So I
abstained from saying the whole, tainted thing.
Most people DONīT know that the pledge was altered in the 50īs and that the
original one left god out of it. Iīm glad that I was able to impart that
little nugget to you :) Regardless if it changes your opinion of it, do as
you feel is right :)
