People are such bigots when it comes to religion and theyīre so MEAN about
it.
My way is Right, hehe Iīm going to heaven.
Your way is Wrong, you are fucked.
My dad called me tonight. After the weather and other b.s. he started in
on one of his religious sermons. Heīs a southern baptist and he knows for
a fact that there is a seat reserved just for him in heaven. He says and I
quote "Donīt you know that your mother and I are concerned with where your
soul is going when you die? We want you to live in heaven with us". Iīve
had to hear this kind of shit my whole life. Until I moved out when I was
17. Drives me crazy that people think that they have a responsibility and
a right to denounce all other religions except their own. I know free
speech and all, but I would never presume to tell anyone that they face
eternal damnation if they donīt believe as I believe.
Itīs fine that you have such a strong faith. Good for you!!! Really. Just
donīt threaten me with it.
WEll they can search you all they want, and if you want to make a point,
youīll put up with it a few times and if youīve got nothing to hide then
what will it hurt other than making them look like the jackasses they are?
So you put up with it....and you keep track of when/where/how many times
they do it. Then make an appointment with the police captain in charge of
them with a fully written report of the number of times, the circumstances
they took place, and what the officers said and did before during and after
the searches. AND what they found...which if youīre as upstanding as Iīd
like to belive you are, the results would be a big fat NOTHING. They have
no right to search you, itīd go on record, so if they continued to single
you out, or it became harassment or violent, youīve got your paperwork and
their ass in a sling.
Trust me, there were real "pigs" in my town too. Bored, nothing better to
do than pull teenagers of ANY type over and give them greif....but you
know, once you see them more than once, you get to know them, and finally
some will see the light and stop buggering you. Some are just looking for
a reason. I have no problem being pulled over and having my car searched
(has yet to happen tho...even dressed to the nines Iīve always been treated
with respect) because I have nothing to hide, and until I discover
otherwise, Iīll continue to assume theyīre just doing their job.
Cops with quotas are no different where you are than anywhere...big cities
and small towns, cops have quotas to fill, even if they deny that quotas
exist :P

the cop that searched my loser sisterīs car was a jerk. But the cop from
our school showed up, and some supposively *cute* cop guy. While the jerk
searched her car and whatnot they talked to her, and joked with her.
Theyīre probably the only two good cops in town, every time we see a cop we
donīt know my mom always says "I wonder if thats the jerk?" Iīm
discrimated against for what I look like as well, but never pulled over
since I *cant drive* but I used to get searched at school. It was
embarassing, that was a differenīt cop though.

Well, another sleepless night and my mind is acting slower than usual *no
puns please* so Iīll keep this about cops.
My father is a cop. My uncles are policemen and prison guards. I know how
these things work, I know that some do discriminate, I know of the brutal
stories which men do to eachother, I know of corruption and politics within
the police force, Iīve seen many terrible things and heard many terrible
stories from my father and life, also I know cops are brutal at the end of
the months in my area, giving out tickets with vigor.
Ack, a what a run on sentence...
Iīve seen first hand and hear enough to understand what it is to be in
their shoes. Believe me. I am always uncomfortable around cops, they think
I carry guns and am ready to murder someone because of the way I look. I am
pulled over more often *but i donīt get tickets because my family has many
people in the force and i was a volunteer firefighter for a time till
school messed that up*. Cops piss me off, the cops in my area especially.
They mistreat, horace, stereotype my friends and I.
There are good cops out there, many, many good police men who really are
trying to make a positive difference in our collapsing society, but in my
area, the ignorant out number the good.
Please excuse any gramer/spellin errors. Iīm not asleep fully nor am I
fully awake.
*goes back to watching lord of illusions on cable tv.*
It is subjective, like NDEīs, "miracles", and other phenomena that we
arenīt comfortable with or canīt explain. Religion has always been a way
for man to understand or put a cap on an unpredictable, mysterious world.
THe more man "evolved" the more evolved the religions began....polytheism,
with several different gods for everything (howīs the sun getting across
the sky....well child, this man in a chariot gets up and pulls it behind
him from one end of the earth to the other) to ONE god who sort of pulls
all the strings or NO god at all. Even early xianity "explained"
mysterious things that today are commonplace or at least
understandable...ball lightening, plagues, strange weather. BUT as long as
the universe remains mysterious to some degree, there will have to be a god
or gods to help some feel safe and smart. I donīt think I want to know, it
takes away from the wonderful mystery of life and limits the possibilities
out there for my imagination and wonder. When itīs all recorded in
voluminous texts, where will little children look and wonder....at the
perfectly mapped sky and stars, having been brokend down to the molecule?
At the sea, with all itīs recorded creatures strange and ordinary? At vast
wilds (those left) with all their towering trees and animals yet
unknown?
If you take the wonder out of everything, you lose a lot, and take a lot
from those to come. It doesntī mean you have to belive in god to
wonder.
You just have something to look at to go "woah".

Just because reigion is a subjective phenomenon of the human mind, it
doesnīt mean there is no definitive right and wrong, it just means that
there are and infinite number of correct and incorrect answers to the
question of religion and the transmigration of the soul.

But I still say give the cops a break.
Until youīve walked in their shoes, donīt judge.
They have jobs as hard as teachers....put upon to "raise" the public, told
not to interferre, then are the first to blame when the shit hits the
fan.
Politicians and religious leaders all have something in common. An agenda.
Be it good, bad, or at least well meaning (in their heads) they only have
their own goal in mind...and bent on making everyone go along with it, and
making those that refuse very very sorry.
Bah and puddles to it all...donīt care for either.

Four quick, anger soaked points.
One of my problems with America is that the people *politicians cough* with
too much power will hide behind the constitution and try to change it to
their likings. LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.
Many organized religions have turned into tools.
Dont get me started on pigs.
Lambs are safer with the herds but are prone (greater) to the teeth of
wolves. There are more to choose from.
Lenore, itīs strange you bring that up because Iīve spoken to several
people that have lived or grew up in rather "nordic" countries and they are
in fact quite a bit more laid back and liberal!
Plus, you live in a very very old cultural area, where the mythology and
religions of the past are a PART of it, and is a sort of root of the
people...and since those that partake in it are comfortable with their
heritage, they are more comfortable with people doing what they will as
long as it harms nobody. (observation/opinion) People who are comfortable
with themselves and their ways usually arenīt too concerned with others and
dont care to judge..precicely because they are SECURE in themselves. Itīs
the insecure that need the masses and the minions to reassure them daily
that they are right and righteous.
Plus I do know that the blackmetal scene in nordic lands is HUGE. I donīt
think Iīve ever heard black metal blacker from any other region! The few
band that I AM familiar with are very heavy into nordic folklore...and when
you have "history" behind your music, it is indeed a force of nature to be
reckoned with :P
As for my family, they havenīt asked my religion and I donīt feel the need
to share or press it. If they ask, I will share. They know Iīm not xian,
probably just think Iīm an athiest...and I occasionally joke my mother
about being a "bad weather god lover"...she only jokes or talks about going
to church when the weather is bad or thereīs a disaster or itīs christmas.
Whatever, itīs a joke, sheīs okay with it, and to me itīs her business.
People just make such a big friggin deal over it and I donīt understand
why...they cry "itīs personal and near and dear to me"...well if itīs
personal why feel the need to flaunt it? If its so near and dear you
should be comfortable with your personal treasure...and not have to flaunt
it to everyone to validate it. Unfortunately most people who are the most
devout HAVE to preach and push and flaunt...because deep down they need to
hear others say "yes, youīre right"..to have security in numbers.
Lambs are safer within the herd.

arenīt church goers.

After poking though this.. I donīt feel so bad. My parents are both
Catholic, and it wasnīt until Iīd announced that I was Pagan did they
actually participate in the Church activites. That bothers me, because even
though I donīt respect or worship the Christian God.. he does exist to many
people I know, and so he exists to me.
Like I said, Pagan. To be more specific, I worship Music. Of course, my
parents donīt care about that, they still think Iīm a Satanist. *blinks*
Donīt even ask me how their minds work.

Iīve been reading this thread, and come to the conclution that Iīm lucky.
Really lucky. I live in the capital of Norway, Oslo. I usually dress in
gothic clothes and wear dark make-up, and somtimes symbols like the Anhk,
the Pentacle, the Isis Pendant and such. But I have never ever experienced
any sort of discrimination, be it based on religious reasons or the way I
look. The goth and heavy metal culture is quite big, and there are two or
three pubs that embrace this culture. No questions asked. Thereīs even a
club called Gotham Nights, that have concept-nights once a month with
Gothic music where goth-loving people can come and socialize. Norway has
also got a Pagan community/association, which supports the pagan religions
of the country. It is of course a minority, but at least you have somewhere
to go. Some of the situations you guys describe are, to me, so far out and
shocking. Of course there are problems here in Norway too, but it seems to
me that itīs a far more liberal place than a lot of other countries...
When it comes to religion, Iīm not quite sure where Iīd fit in. Iīm
Spiritual, but not religious. I believe there is more to the world than
what meets the eye, but then again, I believe there are things in this
world that were never meant for the human eye.

Well if it happend like you said, and if youīre that angry, press charges
of religious descrimination.
This is exactly the reason for separation of church and state.

Iīm open about my religion. Iīm Wiccan. My nickname at school is
"Gothic Witch" originally as an insult. But thatīs what I am, so I donīt
see why they think itīs an insult.
In school I was called to the office for wearing a pentacle. I went off
on the principal, youīll read why in a moment. I told him if kids were
allowed to wear crosses for their beliefs I could wear a pentacle. Then he
told me it made kids uncomfortable, and I told him it made ME uncomfortable
when my rights were being violated. Then (this is it boys and girls) he
said, "well. this is for your safety, we donīt want a mob of people
running after you with torches and hanging you like the witches before, or
stoning you. God knows those witches deserved it." I-was- stunned.
For a moment I didnīt say anything. Then my reply was, "They deserved it?
They deserved it? How dare you! You shouldnīt be allowed to say
shit like that! Iīm pretty sure you are not allowed to say shit like that.
Why donīt you show some respect you friggen hypocrite." I was IRATE.
"Next youīll be calling in my friends who are satanists and telling them
that they should be hung, burned or stoned just like the witches and non
witches of old because that just ties together, doesnt it? I will not take
off my pentacle, itīs not only a symbol of my belief but a tribute to all
those who suffered. Whether they were in the craft or not."
I have never talked to him like that. Him, or a teacher. I respected
them, but as of that moment all respect was lost for the principal. No one
said anything about it to me afterward.
Oh yeah, there are LOTS of "laws" we dontī know about. That you can
"stalk" someone and they canīt do anything about it until they assualt
you.
That in one state there is still an age old law that states you cannot
paint a horse blue.
Donīt be so hard on all cops...most of the time they are just doing their
job, and there are good people on the force that have only the best
interest of the public in mind of all their actions. There are also
officers who got onto the force to prove something to someone, and to have
power over people. THESE people made it almost impossible for a cop to do
his/her job. That split second before a perp shoots at them, they have to
think "this fucker is pointing a gun at my head/the head of another cop"
and think that if they fire to save their ass will they get rung through
the wringer as a result. Well hereīs a theory for most people, if you
donīt wanna experience police brutatlity, DONīT BREAK THE LAW. Donīt point
guns at people, especially cops. Donīt rob people and then sue them for
kicking your ass.
I heard of one lawsuit where a guy broke into a familyīs home when they
went on a week vacation, and got locked in the garage...could NOT get out.
He had to live off a bag of dry dog food and a case of pepsi for 5 days.
Sued the family for undue distress....AND WON. Even tho HE broke into
THEIR house with the intent to BURGULARIZE it! Undue distress, maybe you
shouldnīt break into homes!!!
Most people hate cops until they need them...then they call and cry for
them to come running when theyīre blowing garbage about the "cops did this
and the cops did that" and how stupid cops are.
Theyīre only stupid until THEIR ass is in a sling...and who do they
call?
Sounds an awful lot like the situation with the US...everyone hates us
until thereīs a flood, or an earthquake, or a war and then who does
everyone want to be best friends with then. Hmm?
Give cops a break. Theyīve got a tough job that probably less than half of
us here could stomach. Whether you like the laws or not, donīt shoot the
messenger.
Back to religion....does anyone have any super special personal belifs that
might stir this up a bit back toward the original topic?

Damn friggen straight bettie!!!! I didnīt know that stuff about the pigs.
My sister was pulled over numerous times by the pigs in our town. Sheīd
be dressed in her little culvers uniform, and they pulled her over,
searched her car for drugs because she looked "overly nervous" but they
didnīt search her trunk, then gave her a ticket for speeding. Then,
another time they pulled her over for having stuff hanging from her review
mirror and gave her a ticket for not wearing a seat belt! Stupid
morons..
There was some ex-terrorist in rochester, or something, and he knew that
the attacks were going to happen. I got taken out of school that day
because my dad was in New York. My uncle worked at the pentagon, but he was
out of new york on business. He called us to let us know There were many
violent acts toward arabs after that. I feel bad for those people. It
would suck to have your birthday on 9/11. But it is over with, and people
have basically moved on..er um..I have atleast.
Very very true. Overall itīs not a bad place, and full of some very good,
very well meaning people.
But did you know itīs illegal to get drunk in a bar?
Did you know you can be arrested and charged with a DUI even if you blow
BELOW the legal limit?
You can be hauled to jail for resisting arrest if you run your mouth and
call an officer names, but only if you forget to say "I THINK.." before
your onslaught? If you say "I THINK you are a fucking pig" thereīs nothing
they can do. Itīs your THOUGHT...free speech and all that.
I wasnīt hysterical about the terrorist attack, but I was definitely IRATE.
Irate that our government knew and didnīt think anything of it (when there
had also been a major attack by the same group on THOSE buildings mere
years before). Irate that they were so easily let to slip through the
cracks and into our country...did ya know that one of the terrorists (dead
for months and months after the attack) was GRANTED american citizenship
after the fact??!! OO P S!
I was irate that people felt no qualms at brutally murdering thousands in a
single blow just to make a point and to be martyrs in the war against the
evil west.
I was irate that my own countrymen and women were so quick to find a
familiar face to be an enemy...legitimate arabic immigrants and those that
were BORN here...and to use a few murderous zealots as "proof" to unleash
their so far quiet racist bullshit.
Blah, done with it done with it done with it...can anyone believe that
already weīre creeping up on the one year anniversary of it? God I hate to
see what scab picking and salt pouring all the news shows dredge up. I
mean come on...one day moment of silence, one week anniversary moment of
silence, one MONTH anniversary moment of silence, six MONTH anniversary
moment of silence...cīmon kids, whatīs next an aniversary moment of silence
for the first moment of silence?
Let it heal, rebuild, and do the best you can to make sure it doesnīt
happen again.

I like living in America. but sometimes iīd rather leave. We have freedom
of speach right? Then when someone tells us to shut up we technically
donīt have to. Even if the person is in authority. Itīs disrespectful not
to, but I wonīt shut up if the person doesnīt respect me. I was sad on
9/11 but I wasnīt hysterical, and I donīt usually pass on forwards in my
mail about the attacks that tell me itīll haunt me forever if I dont.
Thereīs a lot of bull shit that we have to put up with in this country, Iīm
not just talking about deleting forwards. Weīre never truly
free....especially if you wanīt to get technical.
ooo a little anti america for you...thatīll take this as far as the
reiligion debate will!
Iīm not some gun slinging right wingist flag waver, but Iīm GLAD Iīm
here...at least Iīm free to say that our governmentsī a crock *grin*
