Starring: Susan Sarandon, Catherine Denuve and David Bowie
The Hunger is and is not a vampire movie. This is a very strange little film, that most people don't like because it slow, or uninteresting, or the vampires don't fall all over themselves in an Ann Rice way. They don't have big teeth, perect heair, or sleep in coffins, which only helps the final product.
The movie does not have an extremely fast pace, and is very cultured and elegant about the way in which it presents it's subject. Yes, you have blood, and death, and David Bowie, but as movies about vampirism go, this one has to be one of the best ones ever done.
Sara Roberts is a doctor called upon to help a strange elderly gentlemen who is aging before her eyes. Her desire to help brings her closer to something far more mysterious than she could have imagined, exposing her to a flaming passion that she never might have expected in herself.
The film is beautiful, the time it takes with each shot is reminiscent of Kubrick, the music enriches and compliments the film, drawing in the audience, and the acting is precise and superb.
If you must watch a vampire film then do yourself a favor and watch this one.
