Carpe Jugulum By Terry Pratchett
Terry Pratchett blends humour, horror, and harridans to create a story where the vampires want to be normal, the priests are allergic to evil, and the witches just want to have fun.
This volume (of the 20 some books he has written, all of which I would heartily recommend) takes place in the Ramtop Mountains around the birth of the princess whose middle name is 'note spelling' and winds up with a nice cup of tea on a drawbridge.
Terry Pratchett plays with words, ideas, and especially stereotypes to show the deeper truth and untruth in day-to-day life.
I am putting this one here since it is a 'vampire' book rather than reviewing the first Discworld novel. If you like this one, start at the beginning with Rincewind and read your way thru the strangest and most real alternative reality in print.
