Articles: Hypocrisy at its best |

I strongly believe that most people can’t or won’t understand their own sexuality let alone allow themselves to even tolerate someone else’s choice in the matter. Now I’m farely pissed off by these people, but I try to avoid them as much as I can. However it’s a bit hard to do that when they’re hiding in your own back yard, so to say… allow me to explain.
Alright, first of all I have to clear up something else, the people that call themselves libertines/goths in my city match up to the number of maybe 40 or 50. One of them organized a “Goth Night” called “St. Vitus Dance”(info and pics here) at a club every Friday night. I must hand it to the guy; he did a really nice job.
Regardless, you’d figure you can go there, have fun and not be judged, like in other places of the sort… but aparently that’s not possible, because the gossip is still alive and breathing. On the surface it seems like nobody really gives a shit to what the other ones are doing, but that’s not right at all. You hear the rumours the next day! It’s unbelievable! These people aparently follow the “if I’m not getting any you’re not getting any” routine, maybe even not realizing this.
I began seeing this about two months ago when I brought another guy along with me to that club, than my usual “date”, whom I’ve been showing up with for some time then. Now, for fuck sake, it wasn’t any of their damned business what was going on between the former date and me or between the new one and me. Still, someone or some of them called my former date and told him something like “hey, man, your girlfriend was making out with some guy all night long and I doubt it was you”. So what if I was? It’s my choice. They had no idea if I had broken up with him or not, or what the fuck was going on between us. And again I say, it wasn’t their concern anyhow. It wasn’t even relevant. They have as little right to meddle in my sex life, as I do to meddle in theirs. Again I say, are they so frustrated that they can only get off on getting involved in other people’s business. Get a fucking life.
Some time passes by and I kiss my girlfriend one night at the club, only to hear the loudest “Oh my god” in the background, coming from some 15 year old girls, only there to mock and make fun. How childish can you get, when they threaten someone’s date that they'd call her parents (????) if he doesn’t leave her alone? What do parents have to do with anything? And what if she doesn’t want to be left alone…
And more. If you can take it, that is. These people go up to a guy and tell him to stop making out with two girls, because it seems not all the people there are ok with “that sort of behaviour”… WHAT THE FUCK??!!! Where do they come off telling somebody not to do something because it interferes with what? Their high moral standards? Their sense of political righteousness? What?… “That sort of behaviour”??? If you’re not okay with it, why don’t you look away? Nobody said you have to do anything you don’t want to. But, oh I’m sorry, does it affect your sharp principles? Fuck off.
Now it wouldn’t stop me from continueing to do whatever I want, no matter how much they gossip and call me slut behind my back, fuck they can foam at the mouth for all I care, and my “partners in crime” feel the same, but what really bothers me is the hypocrisy of it all. And they’re supposed to be libertines? Self-proclamed no less.
I can't help but wonder, if they of all people say stuff like that, what can we expect from the “normal” majority? If they are the ones with the opened minds, what do the others think? Maybe crucifying? At least they don’t say one thing and then do the oposite.
As oposed to what they say - monogamy is not the only way to go in life, nor is heterosexuality. You don’t beat someone in the head with a sledgehammer if they prefer the same sex or if they like to have multiple partners, or hell, even if they like to experiment. You DON’T do that.
Fucking hypocrits.

Note: Note: I'd hoped it was only like this in America. (But I bet gossiping sounds cooler in Romanian) |

The smaller the community, the bigger the assholes. Friggin' Twin Peaks... *shudders* Sympathy from a bit further north - you should come visit, our club is actually not that bad, there's a lot of stuff going on and people don't seem to care. As far as I know, anyway. (http://www.gothamnights.com)
- And it's not as far as Seattle ;-)

the future? by Poison on Sep 04, 2002 - 03:05 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.poisonivy.8k.com | That looks amazing... maybe that's what St. Vitus will be like in 7 years time... hopefully. Up to now we're having trouble finding a decent place for one of our own bands of the same "persuasion" to perfom in. The club we hang out at every friday night is way too small, but as Gotham Nights says, they have to move around to the most suitable location, or something... good plan anyhow. |

Re: the future? by KatB on Sep 05, 2002 - 12:12 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.magicka.net | On the 14th we're actually moving to a new place, where we hope to stay for a long time, it's sooooo cool!
The house itself is 3-400 yrs old, and it shows! We're dividing the club into four different rooms over 3 floors, it's going to be a "Haunted House" sort of thing... With two dancefloors, one medieval 80's-goth/Projekt/4AD-pub (With snakebite & black, of course!) and one "Horror-lounge" without music but with old b/w-horror movies on one wall...
And the hostess for the night is a dragqueen with a thing for Morticia Addams :-D
So European Shmenglings, c'mon!!! Party in Oslo ;-)
Enough advertising already.. |

Gothest club in the world? ;-) by KatB on Sep 06, 2002 - 12:57 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.magicka.net | Yay! :-D
Last update - I went to this new venue yesterday, and it's bleedin' amazing... The main building is from 1640, and people claim to have seen actual ghosts there, there were apparently three brutal murders there. (It used to be a crude version of jailhouse in the beginning...)
And the bar staff are eager for us to put ghoulish makeup and blood and stuff on them for the occasion...
if anyone knows of a more appropriate house for a gothclub, let me know :-) |

Re: the future? by KatB on Sep 17, 2002 - 01:24 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.magicka.net | Allthough we had some technical trouble, mainly due to the people running the venue being rather amateurish still, our first party in a new place went really well, with appr. 500 ppl having a good time. If interested there are a series of photos at this link - there are pics from another arrangement at the same venue there too, it shouldn't be hard to tell which is which...

I've never really noticed stuff like that here. I mean, there are the times when you'll hear things like, "Damn does that girl in that vinyl dress look fine" which is followed by, "Really, HIS name is Brian, want me to introduce you?", or you'll hear someone say, "What was that song you were playing when those two hot lesbians were making out on the dance floor?", and the only time someone was told to stop or directly confronted was when the diaper guy was playing with himself.

Re: Hypocrisy at its best by DevilBunny (land_of_nod@poczta.onet.pl) on Sep 04, 2002 - 12:15 PM (User info | Send a Message) http:// | Of topic, but that's something in America that I don't get.
In Europe you don't have to be 18 or 21 to get into a goth or music club. It's sometimes irritating, a bit of kids, but still... |

But however, I think that there should be more teen spooky club nights. FOR teens. Strictly. So that they have some fun too. Back in MA, the club i went to, Provided a goth night for teens. A)because it was something for them to do and B)they would stop trying to sneak in to adult goth night and make fake ids, getting themselves in more trouble than its worth. |

Re: Hypocrisy at its best by Ianthe99 on Sep 05, 2002 - 12:17 PM (User info | Send a Message) | Agreed.. a goth teen night is fine. I just prefer my goth club to stay it's adult self. Whips and chains and half nekkid people and all. It would be kind of odd to have 13 year olds in the same room as the interactive BDSM show. |

Re: Hypocrisy at its best by KatB on Sep 05, 2002 - 01:34 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.magicka.net | Oh no, that _really_ depends on where in Europe. Up where I live, it takes a lot of convincing to have venues accepting 18 for our goth club. If stronger stuff than beer & wine are sold, 20 is the lowest limit. We must actually hire a guard to check ID on anyone entering the cocktailbar-area of the club.
Allthough I have sympathy for the younger ones - some "kids" are obviously way smarter than many "grown-ups" I am happy to be without most of them... |

Re: Hypocrisy at its best by Poison on Sep 04, 2002 - 01:51 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.poisonivy.8k.com | Yeah, in romania the issue of age limit is hardly present, for almost...well, anything. Imagine, I have friends who used to be sent out to buy cigarettes or alcohol for their parents when they were really young.
Although the law says otherwise, you can buy a cigarette anywhere, it doesn't matter if you're 5 or 50. The only time I've ever heard of someone not providing sevices without ID was at the piercing parlor, but hey, they always run off saying... "if you won't do it, my friend will"...go figure.
Imagine my surprise when I was in this skanky bar and what couldn't have been more than a 12 year old kid comes up and asks me if I have a light. LaterI saw him smoking on a bar chair... *frowns* Getting into clubs isn't even an issue. Most clubs wouldn't be in business if not for underaged people.
I've always believed that if parents allowed their kids to try that "evil" alcohol and tabaco at home they wouldn't make such a big deal out of it, when alone. I'm a living exemple of that. But, then again, I'm lucky.Guess not a lot of parents urge their kids to be independent and actually trust them and don;t criticize every move... oh, well, I guess i"m going off topic here. |

Re: Hypocrisy at its best by Xaoswolf (Xaoswolf at hotmail dot com) on Sep 05, 2002 - 08:49 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://Xaoswolf.tripod.com | At Ceremony there is no age limit, but the bar is in a walled off area and you can't take your drinks out of it. Lipservice and all of the other nights at the Roman Room/Rum Shakers/whatever they are calling it now are 21 and over, you just have to be able to find a club located behind a coffee shop on a back alley if you want have no children present... |

Agreed! Most people out there are double faced bastards. They want to be tolerated for all their little idiosincracies and quirks, but cannot FATHOM tolerating someone elses. It's a whole world based on "me first" mentality, where they are the most important thing, all rules should bend to them, yet they are the ones who then turn around and try to shove rules and their own thoughts down your throat.
Why can't people realize that life is SO much simpler and less stressful, if you LEAVE yourself out of other people's problems/concerns/lifestyles. Sheesh.
I'll end here, lest I end up taking up the REST of my lunch - heh heh heh

Gossiping doesn not sound better in romanian. I can see the joke here *grin* but hell, to me it sounds even worse. Gossip sounds annoying in any language anyways, fuck I don't care if they utter it in ancient egyptian...

Next time the teeny bopper wannabes giggle and point fingers, point one right back. Only make sure it's your middle finger. And point it straight up. Granted, it doesn't solve a damn thing, but it will make you feel better.

Let's talk about sex

I completely agree with you about the fact most people will never understand their own sexuality. Most females and almost all males, I'd contribute, because while most females might feel some anxiety at the prospect of being homosexual, most males feel striaght panic. I wonder if they realize that the average male has more homosexual orgasms than heterosexual ones, because when people self masturbate they are by definition having a homosexual contact (C'mon, boys, rise your hands if you don't agree)...
But then again it's true than in the Scene there is a great "tolerance" about anyone else's sexual options. I think that the fact is most goths don't give a damn about wether you like fish or meat or both, and if they do it's because they'd like to be in your dish. But whatever the reason I understand that you feel "betrayed" so to speak.
15 year olds don't get childish. They are childish,as childish as they come, as a rule of thumb, with all due respect and innocence suposition to all 15 year old Shmeng members (my, that was the lawyer in me). We also have of that kind in Spain. We call them "people who come to the circus", preps who come to the goth clubs just to drool over our magnificient, sexy girls (because gothbabes are ALL magnificient and sexy, and Shmeng ones are the best ;-) They stand around critizising all they do not drool over, and actually it's kind of funny. If we hadn't something we call "vergüenza ajena", literally meaning "other's shame" and which is feeling shame by the actions of someone else, they would be really welcome and most likely thrown peanuts.
In Spain most goths don't care about anyone else's sex life with the possible exception of some "cultural icons'" (Hey stop looking at me, willya?) Just yesterday I found myself discussing someone else's sex life. I was defending hir, but when I realized what the discussion was about I just stopped it with a brief "we shouldn't really be talking about someone who isn't here, you know", and the matter was instantly dropped. As if we hadn't a Dali exposition toi talk about!
Down here we are all happy with that kind of beahviour. Including your Catholic Father Arthegarn, by the way. Live and let live. Who isn't happy with that kind of behaviour is just because he wished he was the one making out with the two girls. And if someone really isn't happy, they are immediately shown the door and asked to make their choice and stop complaining because we are all very happy here with our sexual uninhibition, thank you. Anyway most are just like Banky in "Chasing Amy": "C'mon, man, when do you think we are going to see something like this live again without having to pay for it". Slipping over the drool is the greatest danger
Advantages of being hot, sexy latins*, you know.
As for the first part of your post, when someone tells your former date that you are with someone else... Well, that gossiper may not be a gossiper. It might be a friend of your former date worried about hir. Allow me some room about this.
I have recently been involved (I still am) in a similar situation to yours. Devin knows most of the story and many regulars will guess (perhaps even you). And I have been wondering what would I have done in the place of the confident, and the sad answer is I would have done exactly the same. If I see evidence of harm coming in a friend's way it is my duty as a friend to inform that friend. I can't hate the informant because s/he was doing what s/he thought was better for hir friend. It's not about getting a life, it's about having it and not turning your head when life puts you in a moral dilemma and act as if you had seen nothing. As I see it their intention was not to meddle in your sex life but to protect someone else's love life, your sex life being a colateral damage.
But who knows. Perhaps they just wanted to gossip and cause pain. That kind of peo
