Articles: Heros I have known, or what I did on my evacu-cation. |

Heroes still exist and boy am I thankful that they do. As you all probably know, Shade and I used to (and will again!) live in New Orleans, sometimes called ground zero these days. We would still have been there if two heroes hadn't called us and made us leave. We would be in a shelter if two other heroes hadn’t allowed us to move in and live on their couch. Those heroes have also worked other miracles that have made life easier, nice, and more fun. The hero that made it so we knew how to contact these heroes also deserves a huge thanks. And the loving friends that have stayed up late, gotten up early, stayed on the phone or in chat, and generally wished us well, thanks again. Every kind thought and kind word has really made a difference.
Two more heroes are presently saving our bacon again and rescuing Shade from New Orleans again. And the second two (well really three) heroes are still letting us live on their couch and doing everything they can to make us feel comfortable, safe, and happy.
A town full of heroes is going to (fingers crossed) make the next 6 months way more livable.
I want to say a HUGE public thank you to my step-dad and my platonic wife, without whom we would not have evacuated.
Kira and Paris, we cant thank you enough for letting us sleep, eat, worry, moan, do laundry, set fire to ashtrays, and mope around your house. And thank you for the money too!!.
Rogue and Meranda, thank you for stepping up and solving the problem and driving for 24 hours to rescue an aloe plant, a few computers, and my hubby. And thank you for a wonderful, if very late, evening. And for the Mini-shmengfest.
Thank you town of Farmington for offering us a place to live without worries though winter so we can lick our wounds and wait for the emergency work to be completed

Hooray for heroes! My thanks to Paris, Kira, Rogue, Meranda, and the others for rescuing Shade and Callei, too! But for you, this could have all been so different.
How's the shock thing going? You still sound strong, but tired. Hang in there - we're still behind you in spirit. I wish there was something more I could do for you, but hopefully knowing we are all thinking of you helps. I know back in my hard times I felt the strength and support of this community, and it helped more than some of you can know.
The whole lose-your-home thing sucks, but keep your chin up, because, with a little fight, it DOES get better! And in the end, it builds your confidence to know what you are capable of surviving. I am light-years stronger than I used to be. I know the depths of my strength now.
So, much love, and have fun on your evacu-cation!

I haven't been around in quite some time...just got a job where I can get online and stuff...but anyhow I knew that a few smengling lived down in N.O. and I have kept you all in my prayers.....I had family down there myself who had evacuated to Florida and then got hit by another hurricane right afterwards in ft. lauderdale...So i think I have most of my family camping out in my livingroom as we speak....It's an aweful mess for a lot of people...but I am glad to hear that you all are safe and you will continue to remain in my thoughts and prayers with so many others.....
