Preach: Revolution |

Hold me down momma, an article is creeping out, and I don't think I can hold it back with my gag reflex alone!
I sit on the porch after a long day in the cool air smelling pine and sap and wood burning and a barbeque somewhere nearby, watching the last glimmering rays of sunlight hit the trees and the edge of the moonlight creep over the porch. All I can think about is the fact that it's time.
Kids sit in classes staring at the walls while teachers read from outdated and amoral victor's recounts of wars long past, indifference mixed with praise for our kids to grow up gnawing and stewing on while they slowly rot away, suckling on the great commercial tit. It's time.
Intelligent girls argue with intensity over gender bias in the media and socially; less intelligent ones epitomize and create examples of it. Every cause must have it's martyrs, but the time for change is fast approaching.
Maybe it's my own sense of personal angst and my youth slipping away to creaking bones and a shitty metabolism; maybe it's me trying to get on the crest of a high and beautiful new wave. Maybe I'm just a bastard that way. But all I can do is look around me and see people ready for change-- all of them leaning forward, fists clenched, eyes with ambition, eager to see things change.
The question to the answer is asked from within.
Indeed. I hear this on some old rock tune while I cruise in the car, watching the moon on the lake and feeling the brisk wind whip against my arms. Rock failed; the 80's, while they did induce rebellion, could never carry everyone along because they supported the idea of clan-ism. Now we have to deal with goths, punks, and a great segregation of attitudes and tastes that most of the people within the clans feel they could never, god forbid ever, ever mix or deal with people of differing tastes musically or stylishly, almost a step back over the far line of the Hippies back in 'Frisco that Thompson gleamed on for pages about.
And the Hippies there broke down; Thompson was damn right about that-- "the high water mark where the wave broke, and fell back"-- right outside his idea of what epitomized the American Dream. Could a new revolution pierce that great veil of the American Dream, out there in all the square states where Carlin jokes about penning up all the criminals? But damn, it's about time.
The Kids today couldn't do it-- "Woodstock 2000-somtething" ate ass, and they fucking deserved to have that party crashed-- what did they expect getting corporate sponsors like Nextel and Trojan and Tylenol? They couldn't move out of the bounds of their concert area and couldn't think out of the bounds of their sponsors.
Hell, Rap can't do it. Gradually they're already alienating their own fan base-- originally the only requirements to rap were to be black and underprivileged, now the requirements make you list at least 8 years of reference "homies" and to have enough money to sing about how you have so much money from rapping. Hardly any way to dynamically expand what could have been a great musical revolution.
The ravers tried and didn't have enough push to get up the staircase-- look now at DJ Sammy and Trance-- It's become a export/import industry, too heavily commercialized to do any more good along the mainline and too heavily inundated with drugs in the underground of the culture to get off their asses or drugs long enough to think.
But goddamn, it's time. The fruit has finally blossomed and is ready to fall, and by god somebody has to be there to catch that falling fruit and eat it or it's gunna' hit the ground and wind up as the next Great Depression for everybody but Zoloft and Prozac.
I'm ready if you are, but first let me get my 14 hours of sleep.

Riiiiiiight. I get most of it, but im still a tad confused. But i was good, especialy about ravers and shit. My buddy Cooper was at Woodstock 99. And he took like 4 rolls of film of people ripping shit apart and topping over cars and whatnot. Raves where never that fun for me anyway, i dont dance and hated there clothes, so i would sit there and talk to someone that is fried out of there mind and listen to there broken language. 1963-1982 had some of the best rock that will ever be played on the face of this earth. LED ZEPPLIN YOU FUCKING RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a great article comedian but I too am confused. I agree with what you're saying mostly... espeacially about rappers and ravers and what not... and it is time for a change. But what are we changing? What is it going to change into? You lost me somewhere in there. Why are we rebelling? What are we rebelling against? :) Or are we just rebels without a cause? But I think I can somewhat understand what you're saying. It's just on the tip of your tounge. I can tell.

Rap, *spits* don’t get me started on that one.
“Gz wif da E, money and da bling, my teeff look lik butta but datz oky, dey be lined wiff platnum so yay...”
Ack, you’d think they’d use a dictionary...and I never knew any tooth color but white could actually be considered attractive by the opposite sex. Does this mean that if you stop brushing your teeth then you’ll get more women?
The problem is that with a change in the mainstream world, people will follow it mindlessly and industry will capitalize with a commercial blitzkrieg until we become sick at this specific “rebellious” style. It’s a downward spiral if you will, the change comes, people follow, the mainstream world kills it and we repeat the process.
See punk, “goff”, glam, grunge, rock, rap, pop, pop rock, pop punk. It’s annoying when your ears sometimes pick up on a brainless conversation discussing which band is more “punk”, Blink 182 or New Found Glory.
*sighs*
One thing is for certain though, as long as we have weak minded individuals living their lives off of the crumbs of “celebrities”, this change that we so desperately need will never be permanent.
-Oh and I got so sick of the “mainstream glamor” shit that I shut off my radio (except for Howard Stern) and kept my tv off (except for O’Brien, Simpsons, X-Files and DBZ). It’s not a solution to this rebellious problem but it’s a start.

I'm not confused, oddly. I get it, I see it, and I know it too. Just so long as you aren't eyeballing that sniper rifle and belltower, pal, I get you.

I think I get what you're saying. There's sort of a "quiet" revolution going on right now, and it's happening by people turning off the crap they don't want to listen to instead of loudly protesting against it. It's probably more effective in the long run;at least in the current way society is set up. I see the same thing every day with one person perpetuating a particular stereotype while another person will protest against the stereotype situation. Maybe it's a weird sort of balance. Maybe the perpetuaters and protesters of a particular "cause" are negating each other. Maybe they are actually causing certain problems to disappear. Maybe that's the best form of revolution. Maybe it's even evolution of a sort. In any case, your words make sense in an odd sort of way. *~*Starlight*~*
