Articles: Those freaking non-smokers! |

ok let me paint you a picture. You're in sothern California, sitting and baking ,it's about 90 degrees in the shade under this umbrella that the restaurant puts outside for "the smokers", and other ppl who feel like sitting out side. So you have just finished your meal, and you're stuffed. You have just lit up a cig. and taken your first drag. Oh how fulling, and tasty. You know the feeling of the "after meal cigarette". So you're relaxing, and then all the sudden....."excuse me...." you hear it....
That phrase that every non-smoker feels the need to say. "Could you please move out of this area? Your smoke is bothering me."
Ok, so now your wondering 'should I just say no and continue smoking, should I just blow it in their face, or should I move?' Are you going to let them kick you out of your little space in the world?
The world.. Lets think about this. There are millions and millons of random people here in this little space in the universe. Who are they to have the right to any of it, simpley because they exist? We are like ants infesting a kithen, they scout, move in, mass produce, and take over. And yet it's still our kitchen. so we kill them and get rid of them. We are like ants in the world's kitchen, we have no right to the world.
If it is in our houses, places of work, shit like that it's understandable, but like at disneyland they have certain areas that you can smoke in, and if your not in thsoe places when you feel like smokeing you get bitched at. It's just annoying. and I know I'm ranting, but I don't care, cause this is the place to rant. If non-smokers can bitch at me and make me go out of my way to do somthing that is my right, then I have a right to rant here wtihout them saying "excuuuse me".
thank you for listening

My whole family smokes (except me) and I don't have a problem with it. If you're outside in the smoking area and someone asks you to move its your right to tell them off and keep smoking. People call my friends scrubs because they smoke but their parents smoke, so they're in reality calling their own parents scrubs. People are idiots.

I agree with you, even though I am a nonsmoker myself. It is understandable in certain situations, such as enclosed areas or if a person is violently allergic; but in an outdoor situation where there is adequate ventilation it is as much the person's right to smoke as it is to wear perfume. Personally perfume bothers me much more than cigarette smoke, but it is socially unacceptable to me to go up to a person wearing a fragrance to say "excuse me, could you move? Your perfume is bothering me." There is also the issue that smoking near nonsmokers is damaging their health without their permission, but they also have the choice to move. It they do not like your cigarettes, they have the choice to move. They do not have a right to expect you to conform to their will.

Maybe it's me, but I have long suspected that the tobacco companies find the single most irritating, grating and obnoxious people in the world and hire them to annoy smokers. Every time I see one of those "Truth.com" ads, I can not help but believe that they exist merely to perpetuate the stereotype of the nonsmoker as whiney, uninformed and intolerably self-righteous. I always catch myself thinking that being on an iron lung might not seem so bad if quitting smoking meant that I could only hang out with those people.

Being a considerate smoker, I understand TOTALLY. I don't smoke where it says "no smoking". I don't smoke in an enclosed room with children or pregnant women or people who don't like it. I don't toss my butts out the window of my car, I use my ashtray. I also don't toss them on the street or lawn, I put them out and find a garbage can. If I have company over, smokers and non smokers, I provide a chair or two on the balcony for us to indulge in so as to not irritate/sicken those adverse to it. I accomodate non smokers in my OWN HOME.
I DO get resentful when I'm on a much needed 15 at work, in a smoking area, and someone walks by and tells me that smoking is hazardous to my health. WHAT?! They should put a WARNING on the pack! I say to them. They point it out. Birth defects, cancer, arsenic, tar, emphesyma...fuck I thought those were the INGREDIENTS!! *bonk*
The only time I felt a little guilty is I was again, on my break, smoking, and this little old man walks by, stops, smiles and says "Young lady, it breaks my heart to see a pretty girl smoking away a retirement cabin somewhere nice."
I promptly put it OUT.
And thanked him.
My problem is I like to smoke. Not just because I'm addicted, but because I LOOOOOVE it.
I HATE those fucking truth ads. HATE THEM. How is countering "brainwashing and peerpresure" with brainwashing and peer pressure make them any better than the tobbacco companies? Most of them are over done, the consequences exaggerated, and if there is one thing I hate in the world are "activist kids" HEY, look at US! We're KIDS...and we're ACTIVE!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!
Every time I see a truth.com ad it reminds me to light up. Every time. And blow smoke at the television. Repeatedly. They have the same effect on me as when michael puts the teevee on the 700club and won't change the channel.
I do want to quit...cut to lights and hopefully by weeks end I'll be done (I do have phenomenal willpower...let's see if it's still there)...I'm just tired of the cost, the hassle of having to go get them...the dirty looks (tho those are sometimes fun...reminds me what it feels to be ALIVE!! *bwahahahha*)
Plus I hate hiding it from my family, and again, the cost (which is fucking ridiculous).
Blah, I'm a addict...and I love it!

If you're in the smoking section, then you can smoke. If someone who doesn't smoke sits in the smoking section, it's their own damn fault!
Stupid people!
By the way, the B.F. says he blows smoke at those ads, too! I think I would... if I smoked.

This reminds me of the day I walked into Bob's Bif Boy (Back before they got bought out by Carrow's) and there was this little old lady sitting with my friend Eric, this didn't faze me much since we tend to attract all kinds of people at late night restaurants, but when I sat down and lit up Eric started laughing and told me how this truly friendly lady had walked over about half an hour ago and uttered those horrible words "Um, excuse me..." to top it off, when he looked up (He was in the miniscule smoking section, waaay back in the back of the restaurant) all angry and trying madly to think up a retort she finishes the statement with "...do you mind if I sit down and you just blow the smoke in my face?" He instantly saw red and was ready to tear into this lady. Now Eric is the kindest gentlest person you could ever hope to meet, but when he gets angry it's a sight to see. She quickly went on "My son just moved out again and I miss him, he smokes..." Apparently this lady loved the smell of cigarette smoke, but she hated doing so herself. After she had explained she sat down and Eric chain smoked and they chatted for quite some time. She turned out to be quite nice and would wander over to our table sometimes for the next few months while she went through seperation anxiety about her son.
Anyway, is there any moral? Nope, i just realized that day that there are so many different types of people that while manyare easily accomodated, you can please all the people all the time. When someone who has no valid claim to my time tlls me to put out the cigareete I tend to choke down the urge to ask them to stop breathing my air and ...just say no. :) Nancy Reagan, cough your heart out.

In the Navy it's a bit more cut and dry...we have special, magical little places called smoke-decks. You don't smoke anywhere else, and if you don't like smoke...you do not go there. Very manageable. A lot of commanders and captains and higher ups push for a non-smoking navy...but they know just as well that it simply isn't going to happen.
In the civvy world...I rarely had a problem with non-smokers, when I take a break, I generally go where there aren't too many people to begin with, in the few instances I have run into the obnoxious ones though...well, let's just say that I'm the temperamental sort. I usually snarl.
Thankfully it doesn't happen too often. Two of my favorite comedians...Drew Carey and Dennis Leary have some awesome rants about non-smokers though...

I don't like smoking nor do I plan to, but you have a point. People shouldn't force you not to smoke or whatnot. In certain places (like near a gas tank in a gas station or in the infamous non-smoking areas), it's understandable.
Bleh, ranting but oh well. I don't mind about those ads tat talk about the dangers of smoking, but they do get kind of pushy about that. :(

I've actually NEVER had anyone ask me to put out a cigarette, or not smoke in some certain spot, other than a friend of mine's house. her son's allergic though, so I don't count that. Maybe they're afraid I'll glare AT them instead of thru them or something. I'm always considerate about smoking though. I don't smoke in non-smoking areas or where I know it'll bother someone. If I'm somewhere I'm not sure of, I even go so far as to ask whoever's around if they mind. There's been instances where I drove across the state in my own car without smoking at all, just because I knew it bothered who was in the car with me.
I hate those ads. Not so much the fact that they're there to annoy me but that it's LEGAL to have them on TV. You can't advertise FOR tobacco on TV but you can advertise AGAINST it??? The hell is up with that?

As you probably know, some people have bad asthma or other respiratory problems, and your smoke really can be a danger to them. I personally don't have any of these conditions, but the smell of smoke makes me gag and causes my eyes to sting as bad as onions. Just don't like it.

smoking is NOT the same.. it causes cancer, it smells like shit, and is generally the most annoying thing a person can do in my opinion. WAY to many times people smoke in lines (right in front of no smoking signs) and crap like that.. so just as "the annoying" anti-smoking people give the rest a bad name, the annoying smokers give the rest a bad name.. maybe you're not all like that.. but enough are to piss people like me off. My annoying habits at least don't encroach on other people's breathing clearly.
A lot of people commented saying "well why are you in the smoking areas" .. i'm pretty sure she said "it's about 90 degrees in the shade under this umbrella that the restaurant puts outside for "the smokers", and other ppl who feel like sitting out side." .. AND OTHER PEOPLE who feel like sitting outside.. considering this isn't a designated smoking area.. I think they have every right to bitch at you.. sure you can just blow smoke in their face and be just as annoying as they might have been.. but don't whine about it.. properly ventilated areas do NOT prevent people from breathing and smelling smoke.. every time I walk out of a building into a cloud of smokers.. it pisses me off.. so there's your anti-rant.. smoking sucks.

Smokers are getting such a bad rep for a willingness to enjoy the extra pleasures of life. So what if it gives you cancer? Eating unhealthy foods causes you to be over weight and that is a greater epidemic than smoking. Those “Truth” commercials should be exposing the truth on fast foods and that crap. Also, what about “The TRUTH” you know about aliens, government conspiracies and all that? Why don’t they do a Truth commercial expose on that? Or how about how hypocritical politicians and censorship is?
I don’t smoke very often. When I do, it’s because I’m truely at the breaking point. That’s all. I don’t go around forcing people to smoke or to no smoke. That is their life, let them live it out. I don’t care about cancer nor do I care about my life span. I do not want to live till I’m rolling around in a wheel chair. I’ll kill myself if I reach 50. That’s a promise. Why should other people bitch about what I do to my body? They care? Sure. Ack, what crap.
Banning smokers from well, smoking everywhere in American won’t stop smoking, it will only increase it. Why you say? Let’s look at two nice examples of a few Americans forcing their ideas on the country and how they failed.
Prohibition and Abortion bans.
- Nuff said.
Funny how non-smokers are so obsessed with not getting cancer from cigaret smoke, they forget that taking a life time of breaths in our atmosphere has enough cancer inducing ingredients to get your hair falling out in no time.

OOo speaking of fast food/obesity truth ads, GET THIS. I was waiting in a dentist office the other day, reading a political magazine, and there is actually a lawyer who was responsible for the lawsuits that paid out over billions of dollars to sick/dead/relatives of the dead due to smoking, who is NOW campaigning to allow the obese to sue FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS for making them WANT to eat unhealthily....suing fast food for their own lack of willpower! Can we say fucking CRYBABIES anyone???? Can we say passing the fucking buck? Can we say "we're far too incompetent to look out for ourselves and make decisions for ourselves and now LOOK! We're all fat because of you and we want MONEY to buy more of your FOOD!"
It's goddamned ridiculous. Did you also know that a bartender is RESPONSIBLE for YOU and what YOU do when you leave a bar? That if they serve you alcohol, you get piss drunk and drive off a bridge, THEY can be SUED because you're an irresponsible retard? Never mind the fact that the world is lucky if one of these drunk driving dipshits hits a bridge piling or over a ramp and succeeds in killing only themselves and not a daycare van or my husband or your wife or kids! It's not the person who made the bad decision, it's the devil PEOPLE who SELL the product that are to blame when some moron can't tell when enough's enough! *SCREAM*
Why is it such a foreign idea that people should make and be responsible for their own decisions? WHY do people look at me like I've sprouted a second head when I suggest they take their own lives/problems and deal with them YOURSELF?!
If you smoke and you get sick, too bad for you.
If you eat like a fucking pig, nothing but cheesburgers and milkshakes and you're now so obese you have to have at home care, TOO BAD FOR YOU!
If you get drunk and drive into a tree, TOO BAD FOR YOU!
Sometimes I swear, it's like I'm in a massive social daycare and the caregiver's getting high in the bathroom.
Cant anyone think for themselves and live with their own made consequences?!
Is that so much to ask?!
I've got to stop posting drunk....
