Dream Analysis: Soulmate Dreams |

I'm new here and don't really fit into the whole goth stereotype, but i've read alot of the forums and shmeng around here and I can totally relate to most of it. I supposes I'm a pseudo-goth. Anyway, I had a dream last night where i met this wonderful guy and it was so real and it was like i actually fell in love with this guy through my dream, and then i woke up to realize that yes, it was only a dream, but still i had this awful heartache that was so real.
I was thinking "I must be going insane." but am I really? Nawwww. I've just been a bit perturbed by this dream. I know there exists "deja vu", because i think that everyone in some way has felt that, "o.k. i've been here before" or "i've felt this before" or even "i've seen this before". It does happen..but what does this dream mean? And will I ever find out? Probably not. Gosh this is so rhetorical it's not even funny. Can we sometimes actually dream the future? Hopefully i'm not the only one who has had a dream like that. I hope that i have another dream with him.....
it really was so unbelievable.
Until then.....

Definately one of those dreams you clear out the next day for...and donothing but sink into a nice blissful coma. I can sympathize, I had a dream like that once, fell in love with this perfectly dark-hearted girl...thank god I was saved from eternal heartache by a chimpanzee underneath my carpet that turned that sweet revery into an unending nightmare...made it easier to loose. Still, a dream like that...that is something to savor. My best wishes on a reaccurance, and perhaps a part two of said dream. My Morpheus guide you gently...and no, not that guy from the Matrix.

You're certainly not the only one who's had a dream like that. It's so common a phemonenon that Jean Shinoda Bolen, a Jungian analyst, wrote this about it in her excellent book Goddesses in Everywoman:
"When the sacred marriage occurs in a dream...what is remembered is the awesomeness of the experience. People often use electrical or energy metaphors to explain what they felt as they connected with...the sacred partner...Symbolizing an intrapsychic union between masculine and feminine, the dream is an experience of wholeness."
Bolen was writing about women who have a strong need to be married and have that marriage be their "reason for living". She explains that for many women, the need to be married comes from an archetypal pattern-- in this case, Hera is looking for Zeus.
The "sacred marriage" which provides the dreamer with an experience of wholeness within herself sometimes has a quieting effect on the need to seek out a mate. Many women-- and men-- seek a partner to complete something within themselves, or provide something they feel they are lacking.
A dream like yours can provide the experience of union, thus quieting the need to find it outside of yourself.
Or maybe it is an experience of the future. Who knows.

To answer you questions in order - No, your not insane. Your dream can mean a million things or nothing. Dreams are based solely on how you see them - if it means more to you it is because you want it that way (sub-consiously too). Can we dream the future? Yes, it has been done in the past many times. One theory is that the future is something left to be determined - when we dream something that we carry out, our dream was of the future. Another theory one the whole "Deja Vu" phenomenon is that we are all just re-experiencing life again and again in a never ending loop - therefore sometimes we have memories of our future or a realization that what is happening around us has happened before.
I've had many dreams that were almost too real to be a dream; too many to count. Who knows, maybe it was a sign that Mr. Right is around the corner...

I have a recurring dream that has haunted me since the tender age of 13. It's another soulmate dream, but, in an odd twist of the faerie tales, he turns into a swan from time to time. He's the embodiment of all I ever wanted: intelligence, companionship, strength, seduction, and a love more powerful than anything I've ever encountered in my life...something that makes a woman sit up and take notice.
I've analyzed and obsessed over it to death. The dream of the ideal killed some relationships with serious potential. Heck, the first serious writing attempt I did was an exploration of that dream...but then, I created another story, this time with the the central character as the one who transforms...
And as such, I've just revealed the origin of my name...
I meet him in a bookstore, at one point of the dream. It's weird...here of late, I've been meeting people in bookstores...but it's never that One...perhaps there is no such thing as the One...I'm open to possibilities...
