Our nation is facing a crisis! Not crazy anti american values people, Not not-so-deadly diseases where only ten people have died, but PREPS!!!!! I see them, every day, but I don't complain. NOW I MUST!
I can stand them living, and their ideals, but when several of them decide that it would be fun to wear shirts declaring their social affiliation, i have to complain! Its annoying as hell, especially when the guys wear them too! These people have the audacity to claim a portion of life they know is despised by many people, and yet seem unaffected by it. What's next? "Redneck" shirts? THat would be hell..
I can see it now...(prophesying)
Gee Bubba, I really like your Redneck shirt. Its really fitting for you.
Thanks Bob, but I really wanted the moonshine addict shirt more, along with the matching pants with the family brand on it.
I TELL YOU, THIS MUST BE STOPPED!!!!!!
IF NOT, I WILL GO EVEN MORE INSANE THAN I ALREADY, PUSHING ME DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO HYSTERICAL PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA WITH MANIC DEPRESSIVE DISORDER!!!!!!
Damn... It was good to get that out...

Thank you for making fun of me.
The only thing better than getting out repressed emotions is having someone make fun of them, in a harmless and creative manner.
To be truthful, I haven't seen any of the goth shirts, so once again i am grossly misinformed and have made a fool of myself, AGAIN.
Thanks for the extra interpretation again, for you have brightened my extremely dismal life.
Chameleon
P.S. the pet one was lots better than the Goth one

Well, that's what comes from throwing rocks when you live in a glass house.
The pets one was funny to you because it didn't make fun of YOUR clique. If someone wants to express THEIR views of themselves as we wish to, even if it's something stupid like a "preppy" t shirt or logo, or whatever, then that's their right. Believe it or not, some people take the term "Preppy" or "trendy" as a compliment, you know.
There is no difference when goth or freak kids call them "normals" or "the others" or "the trendies" as when they call us freak or whatever. None at all!
I don't think she was making fun of you as much as she was making a point that it can easily be reversed to the person saying it, and then it's no fun at all, right?
If a "normal" *ugh* had put up a post like that, everyone's panites would have been in a big fat wad, so conversely it wouldn't be okay for you or any of us to do the same.
She wasn't teasing (in my opinion...maybe she was, it's her perogative) or trying to lower your low low self esteem and dark little world as much as she was pointing out how rotten it is to do the same things we get all hot and bothered about when it happens to us, thats all.
Glass houses are no fun at all when you run out of stones.

In Defense of Preps

You hate preps, you say.
Well, in the interest of playing Devil's Advocate (it is the 31st, after all), I'll put aside my surprise at the return of early-80s social divisions and propose some reasons why "preps", as you put it, should be respected as an important part of our culture.
The word "prep" comes from "preparatory" and indicates the class of young people who attend private college-prep schools and then Ivy League colleges. A partial list:
Philip Glass, the film composer, was a calculus prodigy in prep school and earned a degree in mathematics, before he went on to compose "Koyaanisquatci" and "The Manson Family Opera".
Trent Reznor was a straight-A student and a member of his school's marching band. (Not that I'm a huge NIN fan, but I had to mention it.)
Robert Louis Stevenson (Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde) and Bram Stoker (Dracula) were graduates of England's prep-school system. H.P. Lovecraft went to Phillips Exeter and was familiar enough with Brown University to use it as the basis for his fictional Misquatonic University.
Dan Curtis, creator of "Dark Shadows", has a degree from Yale. Both Jonathon "Barnabus" Frid and Louis "Roger" Edmonds, the show's starts, both graduated from prep schools.
And, if I'm not mistaken, Anne and Stan Rice sent their son Christopher to private (Prep) schools. His first book was published two years ago.
Goth enough for you?
