Articles: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ |

I live in an abomination known as an apartment complex. In the five mile stretch of road I live on there are four...count them on your toes...FOUR! Churches existing....there is the ukranian fellowship/settlement a mile away, a protestant church down the street from that, one on the other end, and now, there is a HUGE concrete monument being constructed to draw more cowed souls to the latest "our lord of ridiculous expenditures" chapel by a grocerystore! It's HUGE...and government funded no doubt like the rest of 'em.
Plus, there are these crazy mormon missionary boys living across the parking lot from us. Mind you, the are right by the main drive, next to the office building, and you have to drive by their sliding glass door to go home. They for the longest time had a big picture of Jeezus facing out for all to see, whether we like it or not, on the glass door. Oh what a hellish sight to have to see when driving home after a long day of retail whoring.....I hated it.
Okay, time to get even. So, since they have to use the laundry room which is located right across the hall from our door, we hung a clip from a seventh day adventist comic about sinners and hell depicting a satanic mass and the king morbid himself in all his goat glory presiding over his hell bound followers. It was funny. It was retaliation.
The next morning, my fiance heard banging on the door. He figured it was his sister wanting to drop her kids off, so stayed in bed. The pounding stopped, he slept.....later he went outside and saw a bunch of pictures of the slaughtered lamb of god and bible snipets pasted all over his front door around and on the satanic cartoon. We pondered several options....
1) take it to the office and complain about being harassed
2)draw devil horns and buck teeth on christ and put the pics back up..starting a country home apartment complex religious war.
3)put up more cartoons and see what happens
well, to those of you who know me, I can't pass up an opportunity to cause trouble, so I drew horns, buck teeth, chest hair and a unibrow on jeezus and next to where they wrote "john 3:16" I added "means I just whooped your ass! Cause the late JC SAYS SO!"
(okay shut up, I know I'm a hick. You can take a girl out of the sticks....)
needless to say they then stole BOTH comics and have yet to retaliate....
I smell blood...I smell fear....I smell bike tires coming my way......
the war is on.....feel free to chime in with ideas or tell me how shamful I am. I'm a bad girl. I just can't help it!

I vote for option 6. (1+2+3)
You're gonna have to keep us up to date on how this progresses. Not too often we get to witness a holy war these days without missiles and tanks that keep you at a safe distance.

I'm not going to tell you how shameful you are. My family attended a Mormon church for a while, so I know how pushy they can be. But try to keep in mind that these people really believe that they are saving the world from itself. They believe that God has given them a sacred calling to turn everyone into Mormons. When you retaliate with provocative comics and stuff like that, it only validates their opinion that the world is evil and in need of their help. This only strengthens their resolve to convert everyone within biking range.
You may not also realize that Mormon men HAVE to go on these missions. It's a church requirement. To not go means to risk excommunication, and the loss of family, friends and the only community they know. So they have to believe that what they are doing is a good and wonderful thing. Try to understand them in that regard.
By the way, church construction isn't government funded. The churches don't pay any income tax on money they collect, either from donations or fund-raising campaigns, but they have to raise the cash themselves to build the things.

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by callei (psanguis@yahoo.com) on Jun 19, 2001 - 06:29 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.plynlymon.com | true unless they get the gov't to part part costs as a licenced open door charity, or if they buy and build on some kinds of land, or if they have friends in state gov't that arrange "special" rates on the loan that can be waved if the church does something for the representative.
And now with Bush's new religious cabinet thingy, there will be more and more of it.
Yes they think that what they are doing is right, but so did the people that killed "witches" and the people that handed out soap and the nazi camps. The KKK also believes that what they are going is right.
belief is not always a good thing. |

Yes it is, in a way. Its the mind set, not a particular action that I was speaking about. The mind set that says "my life sucks and it is your fault and i am going to make you pay"; the mindset that cannot beleive that other bipeds are at least as human as they themselves are; the mindset that says its ok to hate and distroy.
The mindset that accepts its ignorance, embraces it and refuses to learn.
I find that the Xian need to "help" other people often stems from thier need to help themselves. they know that they are miserable and need something to make it hurt less. Thier religion offers very little peace of mind for the individual (this is what it looks like from the outside, really) and, as they are only given ways to help others, the only way to fulfill that need for peace and help is through the forceful "helping" of others.
The belief that they are "right" and that others are "wrong" is what i object to. There is no "right" or "wrong", even the bible says that.
But the churches create pain in thier followers and then tell these followers, once they are scared and hurting and thier defenses are down, that the only way that they can feel less pain is to evangelize. the church never says that this will make the pain stop, just that it will lessen the pain.
My mother used to invite any and all door knockers in. She would talk with them, pray with them, read everything that they gave her, and be kind to them. they always left in tears. Sometimes they would come back and tell her that she was the nicest person that they had ever met and that she was a "real" Xian.
My mother is an elder in the tribe. that makes her a heretic. she is a healer or sorts and that makes her a witch. She never mentioned that to all the church people, that her heretical witchery is what helped her love them enough to let them into her house and treat them with the respect and concern that they deserve and NEVER receive from their churches.
She told me never to pity them, just be as kind as I could as thier lives were very unhappy.
The belief that there is a "right" way to be happy and only one right way is silly, dangerous, and disrespectful to all those that came before us. they didnt do things the same way that we do them. Does that make them evil too?
once again religion clouds the issue here. pretend that she had said "porn" instead of "jesus" and then see if you still think she did "wrong"

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by Schizo on Jun 22, 2001 - 04:09 AM (User info | Send a Message) | I may love God, but I HATE CHURCHES!!! It's not Christianity the faith but Christianity the religion that is so putrid. That's why I like your designation of Xtian, to make a distinction between the two.
And you don't have to know God's name to know his nature. These people we've been talking about have no idea of God's nature. Callei's mom seemed to have a far better instinctive understanding.
So many Xtians worship what they call God but in reality it is nothing at all. Many other people reject what they call God, but somehow seem to embrace all the essentials of what I believe. That's why I refuse to judge who is "going to hell" or not. It's way too complicated and not my decision, and like the Bible says, not everyone who says "Lord, Lord" is going to end up on the right side in the end. It's the ones who act like God that are the ones He will want to associate with. That's what I believe.
Which of course doesn't mean you have to be all sweetness all the time. God isn't a pansy. |

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by Meranda_Jade (scurtis510@home.com) on Jun 24, 2001 - 12:27 AM (User info | Send a Message) | I've always wondered how a good and loving person could go to hell because they don't believe in Christ, yet a thoroughly wicked person could go to heaven because they did. That is the problem I have with Xtianity. And the most fanatic followers of this travesty that I have come into contact with have been the most wicked people I have ever met. I refuse to believe in a god or system that would reward someone who abuses a little girl for his own pleasure. Or that would reward a woman for leaving her husband, taking his children because he wasn't as "strong in the faith" as she was. (and to leave him for a choirboy in the same church) this has been my exposure to Xtianity. I'll never get over it. I won't believe in it, because that means that these evil people are going to get all the goodies when they die. I want them to suffer, so I believe in reincarnation. They will get their just deserts in their next life. Anyway that's my opinion, and my reasons for it. Now, when the Jesus Crispies come around, all I get is disgusted, because they exhibit the same symptoms of the evil ones in my life...there are a few good ones like you, Schizo, I doubt you could be evil if you tried... just wish all christians could be like you and leave others to their own way... |

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by Schizo on Jun 25, 2001 - 08:51 AM (User info | Send a Message) | The only time I ever feel like "evangelizing" is when I realize how cool God is, and I feel sad because He's gotten so misrepresented. But, then again, He's a big boy, and He can take care of it Himself. I figure if I just live my life, let people know what I believe and then leave it alone, then I've done my duty and if God wants anything to come of it, that's between Him and that person. I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it.
But of course, being the argumentative little so-and-so that I am, I have to put my 2 cents worth in when someone else brings up the subject! |

I am kidding on that...anyhoo.
I DON'T CARE. Everyone in their life has choices. They choose their life. If they think they are good and wonderful, fan freaking tastic. It is not MY job to coddle and encourage irritating behavior. And how would they feel if I SHOWED UP ON THEIR doorstep with a copy of the satanic bible and propaganda week after week after week, forcing my heathenism on THEM at the ass crack of dawn? They would probably call the police. I would feel like I'm doing a kind and wonderful thing introducing them to the world of anton. They wouldn't. Same when I have to drag my tired ass down the stairs in the morning only to find a copy of the watchtower and the same schmuck in shirt and tie that i turned away LAst week. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO FORCE ANYTHING ON ANYONE, and if being righteously irritated by them DELIBERATELY putting up a picture that I HAVE TO LOOK AT just to get to my front door makes me SHAMEFUL then I accept the badge gladly! I don't live in a goddamned communal, I live in an apartment comples. And what of their behavior of stickering my door with jeezus? That, dear, is TRESSPASSING. I didn't paste anything on THEIR ***** window. NO. I LEFT THEM ALONE! Those NICE BOYS THAT STUCK OFFENSIVE PICTURES OF CHRIST ALL OVER MY DOOR. I LEFT _THEM_ ALONE!
I've got more to say but it is my fiance's birthday and we are leaving! I'll be back! *snarl* |

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by Schizo on Jun 21, 2001 - 06:35 AM (User info | Send a Message) | No, only on the one posted on THEIR door! They left the one on the xtian's turf severly alone.
I think those losers in your apartment building need to all be missionaries to short-tempered cannibals. Their type tires me. I am ashamed to be at all associated with them, no matter how fully they would disown me. Christians are supposed to trust like children, not act like children.
Although I do understand what Maranda said, I don't agree. True, they have been trained and programmed for this. I've been in a similar situation, and I understand the mindset a little. If you really think that the person next door is going to burn for eternity, then you want to do something about it. But I also think you are right to be angry with these people. Just because someone is about to do something you believe is fatally dangerous is no reason to be rude and stupid about it. There are far more effective ways to handle it. Making the "damned" person angry is not one of the best ways to make them listen to you.
Anyway, if they feel they have to do anything to make you accept God, they are showing an intrinsic lack of trust in God. Don't they know that one person can never change another? Can they even change themselves? No! Only God can do that, according to our faith. And he gives us the choice to reject him. Why do so many of his people refuse to give others the same choice? If you have a way of safety to offer those in danger, show it to them, and then respect God and that person's intelligence enough to let them work it out for themselves. And if the person ends up choosing a way that you don't want them to, don't get all bent out of shape. They have the right of choice, and besides, their life isn't over yet. Let God do his job, and don't try to play God yourself.
There. I've kept quiet for a bit to see what others had to say on the subject, but I couldn't keep shut up any longer. These are my views on "evangelism", and the dipsticks who force themselves on others. I hope I've practiced what I preach. |

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by Anonymous-Coward on Jun 20, 2001 - 02:53 AM | Well, I can not say that I feel ashamed in the least. Maybe it is because I was brought up from the age of 4 in a Pentecostal Apolstolic church, so yes, I do know the "Go out in the highways and byways and compel them to come in", and the "Come out from the world and be ye seperate" scenerio. The way I had it rammed down my throat on a daily base is what is shameful. Having to wake up and go to school everyday wearing dresses below the knee, no make-up, no jewelry, not even a hair barette to keep it out of my eyes, and being tortured by other students for it ..is shameful.
Being denied Trick or Treating at age 7 becuase it is "satanic" is shameful.
Being denied a Christmas Tree and lights in the home as a child because it is "paganistic"... is shameful.
Being denied friends outside the church becasue they were bad influences is shameful.
Being told at age 8 I was going to hell for lying and sitting up in bed every night scared that the devil was coming to get me...is shameful.
Having a Ulcer at 14 and numerous nerve problems due to the constant reminder that Jesus was going to come back (the rapture) and I was going to be left behind and have to take the mark of the beast, and die and go to hell anyways..is shameful
Being told by certain family members that I am demon possesed because I sway towards the goth culture and other areas.. is shameful.
Being told that I could not listen to the radio because they had subliminal satanic messages when played backwards...is shameful.
Being at your job and having your boss who is "saved" tell you that she would rather you didn't have a pentegram sitting on your desk, but yet she can have a jesus picture, little scripture texts, and what not all over her office...is shameful
I could go on and on and on, and all of this is just the milder case scenerios!
I understand what you said to a degree, and you must have a very large heart, but I just can't find any room for any of them in mine, nor can I say that I feel shameful in any way.

I can always count on C for defense..
anyway, on the same tangent....
I have no problem with religious persons. My best friend is an xian and I've known about five mormons in my life, all of them friends. I know about mormonism, I know about the missions, I've had the sanctified underpants story etc. I'm not IGNORANT to religion. I know about religion. The point is, I don't feel sorry for spiritual/life decisions. They go because they want to. Period. They do what they do because they want to. Period. Granted, going along with the family makes things slide easier and makes thanksgiving a lot more enjoyable than not, but if they are doing it out of guilt or to please others and not for themselves, then they are living a lie...I don't feel sorry for people who choose to live a lie.
What my problem IS....as you OBVIOUSLY missed it, DEAR, is this propaganda crap that I have crammed down my throat. They aren't even legally allowed to canvas the apartement tennents....it said so in the lease....for anything...candy, magazines, religion. I have a problem with some jackass having NO problem making jeezus visible to all in a sort of "F*you" manner messing with my message of the glory of anton....that is if I took the cartoon seriously. I left THEIR retarded picture alone...didn't even complain to the complex to get it taken down. They DIDN'T leave MY retarded picture alone. Took it upon themselves to do a little meddling with god in mind. It's okay if it's the work of jeezus. B.S.! For all they knew, someone ELSE could have put that up to make us feel bad, and they jumped on the assumption that the wierdo's in #13 (such an opportune apartment assignment, no?) were trying to turn everyone into devil worshippers and would put a stop to it with snippets of christ.
I'm shameful for a little passive retaliation to make things equal around here....I sense a double standard. Like girls that demand equality, but expect a man to open doors and treat them like a princess. All the power, none of the responsibility. How opportune for the away team. But you won't find ME passing propaganda around and waking people out of sleep because I've got an "important" message to spread that can't possibly wait until 12:00. Before hand I found our game a little amusing...but I have to say you have me pissy. Good job. Keep at it. I like it.
oh, and i'm not shameful....you aren't my mother, and you got it backwards.
It's SHAMELESS. the only way I've every been.

I know what I can get in trouble for and what I can't. I'm a big girl.....
besides, they started it, and what's a little fun between neighbors? :)
I'm not harassing them, after all. But if they are going to express themselves, so am I! They can't complain to get the comic taken down, they took it down FOR me.
There are WORSE things I could be doing on my days off that's for sure! :) |

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by bettie_x (strangersangel@hotmail.com) on Jun 22, 2001 - 12:14 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://bettie_x.tripod.com/strangeasangels/ | I'm not provoking ANYTHING. I left their picture alone, as I've said (counting on toes) umpteen times. But what's so bad about putting up a picture that could very possibly reflect my religious beliefs in reaction to theirs? I too, could be wanting to share the glory of ...oh, satan! They started it. I don't have a problem with religious people. I dont' care if you're xian, mormon, buddhist, hippie tree hugger etc. I don't like it shoved down my throat only to have "oh, but they think they are doing you a favor.." Like C said, the KKK think they are doing everyone a favor by keeping the races separate, or by commitin genocide. The NAZIS thought they were doing europe a favor by invading it. I dont' NEED anyone to do me any favors. I don't turn the other CHEEK. I don't take it like a GIRL. If someone cuts in front of me in a line, I ask that person if they skipped that day in special ed on how a line works. I'm not starting fights....I've done NOTHING since they took my comic and the modified jeezus that THEY put on MY property down. They are the antagonists here, if you've missed the point. I'm just looking for tips in the future when they come knock knock knocking at the ass crack of dawn again someday...which I know they will. I just can't believe all the "poor boys....just trying to do a girl a favor...they don't know any better" I'm hearing. B.S.! They DO know what they are doing, nobody is FORCING them, and I feel sorry for nobody! I feel I have been more that adequately patient and benign until now...even then, do I put up another picture? no. Do I tape little retarded pictures and messages to their door? no. I sit. I wait. I bicker here on my defense against the "poor good-deed *gag* doing boys next door"

Re: THIS MEANS WAR! ^*^ by callei (psanguis@yahoo.com) on Jun 22, 2001 - 08:28 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.plynlymon.com | Idea 1
WHen they come around ask them to come in while you call the police. Let them know clearly that you refuse to be harassed and have people tresspass on your property. for example
you: " hi good morning"
them: "....*blah blah blah"
you: " could you lease step inside while I call the police? I cant make a formal citizen's arrest until I have a witness and I would rather that be the police."
them: "why do you need to make a citizens arest/call the police?"
you: "because you are tresspassing, and threating my safety of course!"
(legally in many states being faced by two men that are determined to take up your time with ANY kind of talk or action is considered threatening behavior if it is done to a single female)
Inverably they will leave at this point. If they dont and want to be martyrs (or however you spell it)
ask them in and call the police, from another room. Tell them that these guys are harassing you (the stuff with the pictures) and are at your house right now and you dont know how to make them leave.
I have never had them balls it out all the way. Usually they leave at this point, if not before, and NEVER come back and never put anything in my mailbox or on my door again.
Idea 2
if there are that many churchs around, try swinging into one or two of them and collecting some of thier propaganda. Give this to them everytime they come around then close the door. Spam them back without ever having to go to thier house!
Idea 3
put pics in your window that will scare them off. stand in the drive way and laugh with a friend about silly and immoral they are. "remember the phrase "I can only pity them since they have so terribly missed the point of God's love"
Idea 4
Retaliate by signing them up for all the junk mail that you can! there are many great porn mailings and WAY more stuff that you can get sent to them for Free! (think of all those work from home places, the insta-wiegh loss places and all the mall stores!)

been there and help design the slogans for the t-shirts. I've done street rescue, marched on a few capitals and been shot with rubber bullets (NOT a fun thing)
these days Im an independant contractor (much legal stuff with contracts) that grew up in california (the land of the lawsuit). I had my first law suit at the tender age of 14. I was being harassed by a cop. I sued instead of just bitching and my parents backed me up on it. He lost his job and the ability to EVER be a cop again. One less asshole to terrorize the teens is how i see it.
I know its hard to believe but the law is there for our safety and convenience, and we should all use all the tools of happiness that we can get our hands on. |

Oh hell, I hope to HELL they don't try that on my doorstep.....as unlikely as it is, I think I would loose it.
I'm all for freedom of religion and such, but leave me out of it. That's what it all comes down to... I don't want to be saved, I don't want to be a soldier for god, I dont' want to be enlightened. I want to drink, smoke, and have a big fat pentagram tattooed on my tits and be left out of anybody's quest for the spirit.
is that so much for a girl to ask for? |

Ouch...violently mixed opinions on this one. On one hand, I applaud your passive aggression...the weaponry of the wise and long-lived. I would have just set something on fire...I can be barbaric like that. But on the other palsied hand...that faith, that horrible faith spawned many of the things I hold precious and dear...the art of the faithful, their perserverance...bloodied as it is by their tendency, as that of all humans to judge... kind of makes my head hurt. Still, no one ever claimed the life of the faithful to be easy, give them a challenge to overcome, something to throw themselves at in the name of their god...without violence. Lest the lambs of the lord grow restless and seek out a threat on their own. A wise action...one with a hidden depth, I think...maybe I'm just being delusional...but dang your clever.
Keep up the good works...and godspeed.
