Articles: People are dumb |
Posted by
Phalkon13 on Friday, February 22, 2002 - 04:01 AM PST
So I am just surfing the net, I have my America Online Instant Messanger on, just in case a friend wants to talk to me, and I get an instant message. I don't know the name, so I think it might be interesting and I am never the one to not talk to someone new... that is until I find out they suck.
So I start talking to this girl, she does the typical teenage thing of asking my name, age, sex, and location. I never give my real name out on chats (but Shmeng, I do, funny huh?), but I choose to indulge, and tell her I'm 21, a guy, and that I live in Illinois. Turns out she doesn't live too far from me. She tells me her age, which too young for my tastes, so I just choose to make conversation. First she tries to ask in various questions if I would want to meet her. I've never met her before, and she is already too young for my taste, which I have stated with her aleady.
She asks me if I am a virgin, which I don't think is that much her business, but I answer anyway, just trying to not pay too much attention to the conversation any more. Then, as if she thought I was a good friend or confidant, she blatently asks "So, how many girls have you fucked?". Now, my sex life is none of her business, and certainly not part of normal conversation, so I say "Excuse me?" Obviously she doesn't understand how tackless she is being, and says "You know, how many people have you screwed" I tell her how that is really none of her business.
Well, the conversation pretty much ended after that, as I said I had some homework. Well, This is where I am going with this. It really amazes me how tacky and crude people can be, in this day and age of "enlightenment". I mean, you go right up to someone you don't know, and ask then how many people they "fucked"? How stupid can people be????? It's not like she was 10, and it was all taboo, therefore fun to mess with people about. The girl is 17, at that age, I had some common sense about what to say to someone I don't know, and talking about sex to a complete stranger is not one of those things. Now, the only stranger I talk to about this would be a shrink, lol.
This kind of thing happens all the time, and it always irks me. I mean, there's a difference to hitting on someone, and just being vulgar. Well, I just felt the need to rant about this. Thank you for listening. Good night world.

I got so sick of getting the a/s/l message from people all the time, I put a message saying that if don't have anything better to say, then I don't want to talk to you, and that if you want the information you can go to my web page. That day, I got an angry message from a girl saying how stupid I am.
I think that my blocked list is bigger than my buddy list.

It is so strange the way people think it's OK to say some things in chat and on e-mail that you would never ever say to someone you met face to face. Being open-minded and free and enlightened is all well and good, but if it means being rude as well, count me out! My mom's always saying people should be required to take etiquette classes, maybe she's right.
Since I am often naked on my cam and on AIM at the same time, some people think they can say anything at all to me. Of course, I set them straight right quick! Some people, though, are very civil, and I appreciate that. Politeness may be old-fashioned, but that doesn't make it bad.

That's odd. We don't do that down here. The first time I was asked A/S/L (by an American, and last week) she had to explain me what the hell did that mean, I thought she was asking if I had ADSL.
Anyway I agree. People, specially teenagers, mistake being what we call "liberado" (literally "freed", of taboos, social constraints, etc) with being blatantly rude. And, I don't know if that's something that happens only in Spain, but I am beginning to think that nowadays teenagers only think about sex. Well, OK, all teenagers think only about sex, including me many years ago (*sigh*), but we (my friends and I) were different, we weren't showing off about how grownups we were and how much we did it (we didn't like lying to each other, anyway...).
Example: there is a new "sport" amongst new wave gothbabes in Madrid. It's called grampa hunt, I don't know if I have ever mentioned here. It consists on screwing the oldest goth around, double score if he is more than 10 years older than you or he is a "cultural icon". Not just some hot kisses around, you have to get him laid (remembers me of the Vampcourt's Chickenhead post). And they get quite obsessive after some time, they can't take a "no" for an answer, they start rubbing against you in a way they must think is erotic and provocative, but which is as provocative as a porno movie in mass (I mean any mass not conducted by Callei, Mistress of Orgies). And then, they all have to be bisexuals because it's very gothic to be bisexual, and so have a friend whom they kiss with from time to time. A young (16*) friend of mine came to me once quite afraid and half crying because she had been flirting with another girl (a very nice lesbian friend of mine) and now she wanted to sleep with her, and she didn't want to but didn't know how to get out of the mess without looking like a poser (which she obviously was).
Well, I am deviating from the subject. But I wonder, Phalkon13, what would have happened if you had said yes to her? Perhaps she was only teasing.
And perhaps not. I remember another American friend of mine who lost virginity as a CHILD, and said it was perfectly normal and that it was the average age in the USA... Well, let's leave it here. Hey Devin, another poll: Age when you lost virginity. And make it quite high so i can fit in ;-)

(*) In Spain you can drink and smoke when you are 16, and so you can enter pubs until 02:00 with that age

To the A/S/L I generally answer with some asanine joke...like 3/Varies/Lemuria or some junk...as for the way people seem to loose all sense of proper civilized manners, I think it's because once you don't have a Face for people to remember you by, you think you can get away with anything. And there are enough dumb ass people out there to go ahead and try the anything's that just make us realize how hopeless they are.
Personally...I would have ended the conversation by telling her I was an eighty year old ex-con sitting outside her window.

Re: No Face...no freaking manners. by callei (plyn@plynlymon.com) on Feb 25, 2002 - 03:16 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.plynlymon.com | well i know that if you say it to them at a bar (the sort of guys that say things like I saw you sitting here and just had to know if you were real or a dream) they tend to run away.
Also the ones that ogle from a distance and say things like "i wonder if she is flexable?"
I have found that being direct scares most of those people, it scares them alot and then they leave you alone.

Nothing like being straight up and direct to make my panties wet. |

nope cant see it, no matter how drunk you were.
*trys to visualize Devin with a leash, a pocket full of batteries, and an eager smile*
that seems to fit better.

Re: No Face...no freaking manners. by Anonymous-Coward on Feb 26, 2002 - 09:29 AM | hehh heh, what conversations a little venting can bring! Oh my. Well, Devin is on the right track, I love when people are direct. But this person was a little too direct for not even ever meeting me. Still, if I was at a club or bar, and someone came up to me with a cheezy pick-up line, I would take the either direct-NO approach, or Callai's approach, depending on my mood. It would be more likely I would use Callai's approach, but online, I don't really like spurring romances. Oh sure, I flirt all the time, but it means nothing. I'd rather meet the person direct. ;) |

Teenage female mallrats are the worst. THey are just plain RUDE.
As everyone knows, I work at hot topic (shut up) and these girls and boys hang out like it's friggin doomcookie club med, and they hang out, talk shit to the employees, and bother the customers. I had this one awful little girl come in and she walked up to one of my employees and said "hey, I heard and stuff, like are you gay? I heard you're a fag, but I wanted to ask." He was like "Well, that's none of your business" and this girl is ALWAYS bothering him, so I leaned over my counter and said very directly to her "Why do you care, he's not fucking YOU." Her jaw just dropped and she looked shocked I was so direct with her. I told her it wasn't her business, it was rude, unacceptable and that she wasn't allowed back in if she didn't drop the attitude. She didn't leave, and said one more thing to him and he snapped his fingers, pointed to the door, and told her not to get her ass stuck in it on her way out. I was so proud of him.
I had a 12 year old in the other day with one of those friends that holds their wallet and gets stuff for them while suffering intolerable abuse the whole time with bowed head and the occasional mumbled statement in self defense. She was yelling "hey you fucking whore, fucking bitch, give me a fucking dollar now, bitch. fucking whore" and this is a direct quote, mind you. I stopped what I was doing and said "excuse me, LITTLE GIRLS don't speak that way in here" "I'm not a fucking little girl, bitch, fuck you" and I repeated that little girls are to be quiet and respectful and that she couldn't come back in without her MOMMY and that if mommy wanted to know why she couldn't come in here alone, that she could speak to the black haired lady with the seahorse tattoo and I'd be PLEASED to tell her what her daughter says and does when she's not around.
It started on the internet....it's moved to real life. People indeed DO mistake liberation (or whatever it is now) equals ripping out that little self censor between your brain and your mouth and making a collossal and regretable jackass of yourself. It's sick, and nowadays I feel like a surrogate conscious and underappreciated babysitter for children with mouths too big for their own good.
Now I sound like an old lady...if it's too loud, turn it down. Where's my cane...rotten kids...get out of my flowerbed. |

Re: No Face...no freaking manners. by nocta on Feb 26, 2002 - 11:19 AM (User info | Send a Message) | Rock on, bettie. Keep up the good work. When kids get uppity with me, I usually just calmly point out their social inadequacies and tell them they'll understand when they're older. Usually they get madder when I tell them they'll understand when they're older than when I tell them they're rude or socially inept or whatever. *shrug* |

I started coming up with snappy retorts. My favorite was in answer to the question "Do you like anal?" My answer: "No, I don't f*#k a**holes..and I'm thinking you are one!" My next move...ignore list. |

It's the same with IRC. People get this false sense of anonymity on the 'net (remember the girl with the fake pictures?) and start throwing all sorts of bullshit at you. And yet you can find some cool people as well, but those are one in a million.
