Lemmings on Parade: You can't fire me... I quit |

some of us... by genetic fluke... do not exist within the definition of Human... and I want nothing to do with it... The struggle for dominance in the wild... does not end in death in a majority of cases... I am sick of human kind... and being considered one...
My heart goes out to all in this... but this is our stupidity as a country coming back to bite us in the ass on this...
the answer is simple... to the rest of the world... we are a democracy... tehy believe that the actions of our leaders reflect the beliefs and feelings of our people... For the last 75 years... our country has practiced some pretty shdy and shitty things in other countries... so... as a whole, the world thinks that we support it... if it was one leader, not the people, in a democracy... that would have only happened with THAT leader... therefor... since we are a democracy, since our leaders keep this shit up... we must all support it...
someone... LITERALLY, just sent me this link... LINK we... are looking the wrong direction...
After some research in the news archive on campus... everytime Bin Laden has made an attack of any sort... HE HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY... sometimes, even before the event happened... this time... he did not... and refuses any knowledge of the event...
NOW... believe it or not the rednecks of rural missouri have a good explanation for this... "He knows he screwed up BIG this time..." Well that seems credible on the surface... but his religious beliefs state that if he dies because of something he did on behalf of his god... he goes to the hand of that god... why change that this time???
Also... Fact Number one... Monday... the 10th... we cut something like 18 billion in military funding... the 11th, this happens... the 13th... we approve 20 billion in spending for the same purpose... something does not sit right... and I don't like it....
the american public... is spoiling for war... americans have killed people who are americans because they look like they are from that part of the world... Americans are saying that they ALL should be exterminated... Forgetting that innocent people are going to die... or... when told about the innocents... saying "SO???"
I... frankly... tire of this... I lost someone in this... but the people that are PISSED OFF... are not ones who lost... they ... have no stakes except that "they dared to insult the US..."... or they need to pay...
Fuck it... I am technically not human...(ask sometime, and I'll explain it).,.. but I formally tender my resignation from the Human Race...

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Nothing on Sep 19, 2001 - 04:41 AM (User info | Send a Message) | I'd say most of the people here agree with your disgust with the human race, and not just in light of recent events.
Showing such compassion, objectivity, intelligence and thought automatically excludes you from the human race anyway.
so yeah, count me out too. |

I quit by feralucce on Sep 19, 2001 - 07:28 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://feralucce.vibechild.com | I don't show compassion... and objectivity... is not something that I can claim... I don't mean this to sound combative... but I... live with the ideals of Nitszche...a far cry from compassionate... I also believe that reality is completely subjective... but your sentiments are mirrored in me...

Although I must admit, wiping my ass with Bin Laden was pretty fun, I am also sick of humanity. I still think we should arrest Bin Laden, I mean he did do a lot of other crap, and we can still question him about these attacks, but I'm not sure if he was behind the latest attacks. And before, when he did stuff, we didn't really want war, and now after the death of tens of thousands of people when we do want to fight, he may have had a sudden bout of mortality. Especially with a lot of Europe saying that they'll support us. Religious nut or not, when the gun is pointed at your face, you're gonna feel it.

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Anonymous-Coward on Sep 20, 2001 - 09:27 AM | If it became nesscessary, I would gladly die for my God. It doesn't mean that I wouldn't do everything I could to make it not nesscessary. I mean, he is hiding out in Afganistan, instead of being somewhere where we can easily get to him, and I mean for his earlier crimes, not just this one. He went into hiding, when he could have been a martyr. |

It looks like we're going after him, along with all other known terrorists, for better or worse, these are intersting times. |

I'm very glad my friend johnna sent this to me, I was wondering where to find this on the web, but it just came to my lap, easy as can be. Thank you johnna...
This pretty much sums up my feelings...a nice way to put ourselves in perspective from an "outsider"...and who says all canadians are stupid?
A TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES
We should appreciate this one. This, from a Canadian
newspaper, is worth sharing.
TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED
STATES
America: The Good Neighbor.
Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a
remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the
Congressional Record:
"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent,Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.
When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the
Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris.
I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States
thathurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities
were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.
The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.
I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them?
Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?
Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon-not once, but several times-and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the
Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at.
Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are
breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here. When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania
Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.
I can name you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."
Stand proud, America!
This is one of the best editorials that I have ever read regarding the United States. It is nice that one man realizes it. I only wish that the rest of the world would realize it. We are seem to be blamed for everything, and don't get a thank you for the things we do. I would hope t

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by feralucce on Sep 24, 2001 - 09:59 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://feralucce.vibechild.com | *voice soft* I can honestly say... No... It doesn't.... when we lend economic aide to a country... them terms of the loan insist that they cut health care expenditure so they can be sure that we get our money back...
The shool of the americas... we spend time and money teaching dictatorships how to weild an effective fighting force...
We make it so american companies go to other countries and set up sweat shops all over the world... paying them pennies a day... Our money is so valuable, that these people will do it, not knowing they are being screwed...
desert storm... Hussaain was told by Bush that he could do it... He did it... then Bush gets flak from his oil buddies... so he changes his mind...
I fought in that war... and... I am ashamed tht I did... I am not proud to be an american...
we're not even in a republiuc setting anymore... the people did not vote for bush... we're in a dictatorship now... and... I am ashamed of our country...

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Schizo on Sep 25, 2001 - 05:07 AM (User info | Send a Message) | We are not in a dictatorship. We are under the rule of law. It has been a law all along that the electoral college elects the president. I'm not absolutely certain about the first couple, but certainly nearly every president has been elected this way. This isn't the first time that the popular vote has ended up different than the electoral vote. Remember the famous picture of Harry S Truman holding up the paper with headlines "Dewey Defeats Truman" with a big grin on his face?
The thing that made it a big deal this time was the fact that Florida's ancient voting machines fouled it up. That, and the fact that Al Gore was and continues to be a whiner, whatever you happen to think of his politics.
Actually, the elections were held according to the law to the best of the country's ability under the circumstances. If we had arbitrarily gone with the popular vote instead of electoral, that would have been a dictatorship, because it would have been the ruler above the law.
Personally, I think you have a bit of a bee in your bonnet about Bush. Maybe you have a valid point. But he is not the devil incarnate. He is a politician, like pretty much every one of our presidents since George Washington. Which makes him a little slimy, but smart enough to know that if he tried something like this, and got caught, it would really hurt his chance of re-election. There are safer ways to up the ratings. |

Neither tradition nor law should remain unchanged - I think that's the point...just because it "works" doesn't mean it's the best method.
And as far as bush jr. being smart enough..well...

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Schizo on Sep 26, 2001 - 04:40 AM (User info | Send a Message) | The rule of law isn't perfect, but it's sure a hell of a lot better than anarchy or dictatorship.
If you really disagree with a law, then lobby to get it changed. There are ways and means to change laws. But if we just threw out a law unceremoniously because we didn't happen to like the results it brought, then all we'd end up with would be chaos. For example, if Al Gore and his compatriots persuaded the country to disregard the electoral vote and put him in office, then it truly would be a dictatorship, because he would have put himself above the law. If the move came from the people, it would be anarchy.
But, if the people put pressure on their leaders, and the leaders follow due process to legally change said law, then we have government.
As for Bush being smart - he's smart enough to go to an Ivy League college, even if he wasn't the most diligent student. Smart enough to convince people to elect him Governor of Texas. And smart enough to win enough votes according to our present system to become President of the United States. Admittedly, he isn't the brightest light we've ever had in office, but he's no candidate for special ed, either. |

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by feralucce on Sep 25, 2001 - 10:03 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://feralucce.vibechild.com | I do remember that... and I would have said the same thing back then... but... the electoral college is a problem... it made sense when we had to take 2 weeks to send a message across the country... "hey mike, tell them we vote this way." Now... it makes no sense... it is not democracy... if it were... the popular vote would have decided it...
That is neither here nor there... we are not a democracy, but closer to a republic...
I do have a bone to pick with Duh-bya... everythign about the man... do some research into his past, and his platform...
I find his being president... well... I am working on leaving the US as a result...

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Schizo on Sep 26, 2001 - 04:30 AM (User info | Send a Message) | OK. So we are a country ruled by outdated laws. But that's a far cry from a dictatorship. And just because Bush may be a creep (I don't know - I can't stand any politician, they all seem like snakes to me) doesn't mean that he's callous enough to blow up the WTC and the Pentagon and start a war to up his ratings. For one thing, he is certainly smart enough to know that a ruined economy always gets blamed on the president, even thought the president rarely has much to do with it, and damaging a military center right before embarking on war isn't the most strategic move, if one is to win said war, since losing a war also lowers ratings.
Not to mention the fact that his father had a little war in the middle east, and didn't get re-elected.
Leaving the country is your choice. But I think you'll find that pretty much every country is run by corrupt politicians and outdated laws. |

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Xaoswolf (Xaoswolf@hotmail.com) on Sep 26, 2001 - 09:30 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://Xaoswolf.tripod.com | Actually, I'm glad we use the electoral college. I use to think the same thing as you, until it was explained to me by some friends. When you look at it, most of the United States population lives in cities, about 5 cities to be more prescise. I forget which ones they are, but New York City and LA are #'as 1 & 2. Now, that would mean that Presidential Candidate Bob would have to fly to these cities to do his campaigning, he'd never have to go to Idaho, since the Idaho votes aren't important as long as he gets L.A.. This gives everybody in the USA a voice, it makes it so that rural areas matter, if not equally to, then almost as much as the major metropolitian sites in the election. |

Re: You can't fire me... I quit by Schizo on Sep 27, 2001 - 02:17 PM (User info | Send a Message) | I'm not saying I don't like the electoral college. I don't really have an opinion about it. I don't think I understand it well enough to have an opinion about it. But if someone really has a problem with it, there are more effective ways of dealing with it than complaining about the results. |

FYI, that was written in the 70s!! by ickgirl on Sep 25, 2001 - 03:18 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.envy.nu/ickgirl | It was actually a broadcast by GORDON SINCLAIR in 1973.
Please check your sources before sending what is essentially junk mail around....

also, devin being a stickler on copyright laws...well...posting other people's words w/o their permission is against copyright laws.
