In a way, fiction is fiction, and everyone has to start somewhere, so I'll be constructive as I can be.
Lay off the overt darkness. Look about you, and if you must write "darkly" then discover what darkness truly can be in all it's aspects, not just what hollywood and turn of the century monster bodice rippers and penny dreadfuls tell you it is. Those things have their place, and are enjoyable, but if they're done poorly in the least bit, they become the eyerolling sort of camp instead of the fun variety. Darkness is an infant who's parents sleep through it's cries a minute or two too long, the patch of sun outside the rim of the shade of a tree, a cookie cutter hotel room in a glittering city. Be creative, think outside the gothbox. And keep trying.
