So am I, and tho I would fall into the "fanatic" range of the whole animal rights issue, it does give me happiness when even people who aren't on that side give some thought and say "no" to even ONE of the many unnecessary cruelties dealt out in the name of "progress" I get really angry when I hear people hypocritically talk about how much they LOVE all the animals, while they're chowing on a cheeseburger (this argument does not always apply to some who do have a need for animal protein, tho in MOST cases it's purely psychological, or those who buy free range). Pretty much they love all the animals that are cute, fuzzy, and cater to their egos and make them feel good. In essence if you aren't adorable, pettable, and make the person who feeds you feel important, you're scrap parts. You're not an animal, you're dinner, you're an object, you're a test subject, you're expendable. I've heard the argument that we're stewards of this world, by god's decree or by natural selection. As a steward who feels the right to use what they wish, most people forget the other side of the bargain, which is to care for them too. You abuse it, you lose it. I got into a fight with some horrid cow of a woman at starbucks over this, after she butted into a quiet private conversation that I was having with a co worker in line, then proceeded to tell me I'm "wrong" and that vegetarianism is "wrong" because, I quote "they're here for a REASON". "Okay, ma'am, if you believe that for religious reasons or otherwise.." , "Oh no, I"m not religious, it's just that if we didn't eat animals they'd take over." As I stood stunned by her own stupidity, my co worker (who isn't even a vegetarian) simply stated. "You're right, they are here for a reason. To keep us COMPANY."
