I was very lucky to be raised by the liberal side of my family, and was encouraged to be happy and educate myself; in addition to teaching me acceptance through accepting me (had a very short talk with my mother about polyamoury once: short because all she said on the subject was "The more the merrier"). The other side told me I got a tattoo because I want to commit suicide and was unhappy with my life because I have strayed from "the lord". It hurts more because they are supposed to be the people that are most accepting of you, the ones who have been there all your life and know what makes you feel better. And much of the time they turn out to be the most hostile strangers. I am so glad that you were able to escape that type of environment.
If ranting makes you feel better, then go ahead by all means; and if you want you can adopt my parents as well. Even they said it was all right ;)
